Been here a couple times now since moving to the neighborhood. It's not my every day coffee shop as its a block or two off my path to the train, but when I've come I've enjoyed it.
The breakfast was very tasty and today I tried the Cuban sandwich. The sandwich was really good. It was not truly authentic as they don't use the Cuban bread, but outside of a select few Cuban restaurants in NYC, it's probably as good as it gets.
Good vibe. Fair prices. Good space.
Went on a Saturday at 1. Picked some attractive items that were showcased prominently on their wall – lobster roll? Nope, not available. Watermelon punch? Nope. Guacamole? Not sure, we have to check on that.
It seems the only real thing they have and are willing to make are omelets which looked fine but a bit flat. Finally just made up an order of an egg sandwich. The bread was good and fluffy, but immediately lost crunch after a few minutes. Guacamole was served to us, but it lacked any bite, was way too mushy and sour. Maybe we went on an off day. Well, I guess it had to be an off day since they had nothing really available.
This place is not pretentious. No frills. I started to ask for items on the menu. Hot cocoa with saffron? Nope. How about? Uh-uh. What about? Sorry.
Ok. I see a pastry. gimme. And that juice. Oh it's Watermelon Punch. We have a winner.
Yippee both the counter girl and yours truly did a happy dance.
I like quirky places.
I could not figure out that WiFi code for the life of me. But it is a great place to get writing done.
And the snacks were yummy.
Came here on a Sunday for some coffee….
So glad they have almond milk, feel like it's hard to find places in Harlem with almond milk.
The cappuccino was delicious.
The place is small yet trendy.
I would love to try brunch.
I haven't written a yelp review in nearly a year and visiting Astor Row Cafe yesterday motivated me to get online and tell the people about what they're missing. I LOVE THIS CAFE! Its the perfect combination of rustic and trendy. Right on the corner of Lenox Ave, Astor row offers an assortment of coffee beverages and breakfast food.
I can't speak for the food, but my lattes are always on point This place has ample seating, a good vibe, and a DJ who places a lot of throw back hits. Come here to study, chill with friends, read, or just be.
I love this place and will def be back next time that I'm in Harlem.
Great place to get work done. Was going to go do work at Lenox Coffee a block away but when I got there the shop was packed with people. There were no seats left and it was so hot and stuffy in that tiny shop. I went back onto Yelp and Astor Row Cafe appeared. SO thankful it did! It has big tables so that you can comfortably get your work done. The work staff there is also very nice. They have some food which are all pretty pricey (for what it is) and some coffee, tea and pastries. I just got a simple iced chrysanthemum tea. It was really nice and soothing. The only downside to this place is that the music can get a little loud sometimes. However I'm willing to deal with that in exchange for the large tables and comfy environment.
Mixed views on this place. This is the anti-Starbucks but not in any way that I could find positive.
You walk in and figure your safest bet is to walk to where people seem to be working– the large counter, behind which is the handwritten menu on the wall with some illustrations. Very, how do you say? Rustic.
Variety is limited but the quality is alright. Not sure if they plan to add more offerings..?
My main gripe with this place deals with cleanliness: The teapot I received had a soiled spout. Like, how does this happen at a cafe?
The would be saving grace: huge ample bathroom was filthy and washing my hands made me cringe. Especially when as I threw away my paper towel, I noticed that the soon-to-be overflowing trash can held a large package of feminine hygiene products. RETCH!
Tables are spread out and force you into a group encounter with folks doing "work" on their laptops. Pastry was decent but cold and I cant say it was better than any random bakery. Decor consisted of lesbea-themed semi-nudes and some graffiti which is fine but the eclectic mix of music was just mass confusion. Are you trying to be cool or just too cool to try?
Maybe it was just a bad day but I need some incentive before making my way back.
How long can it take you to make guacamole?? 30 to 45 minutes? Really??
It's not rocket science!
Anyway that was not the worst part of our hungry-angry lunch at Astor Row (which I had to admit I was fantasizing about the place don't ask me why). A long half an hour or more.
Then the quinoa and hummus wrap which had no quinoa at all and an invisible hummus (they claimed it had hummus… nor at all!). When I told them the issue they didn't want to do anything about it. No care at all for their customers. I had to claim my money back some I paid for a quinoa and hummus wrap which was simply just lettuce wrapped in a flavorless tortilla. The only good thing about the place was the Cuban sandwich. Bad fries bit good Cubano.
Won't go back to this customer careless place.
