Astoria Pizza
“Solid choice for late night delivery, which is how we discovered this place.”
“Is there any comparison to Roberta's Pizza, no but this is the 'go to' place for those drunken/late night hunger cravings.”
“The sauce is flavorful and not overly sweet and/or runny, there's just the right amount of cheese, and the crust is moderately thin and has a bit of a crunch.”

So Tuesday was my boyfriend and his friend's weekly film podcast (at his friend's house/converted makeshift studio), it was their 2nd annual Halloween episode and thus it was being billed as their "nerd party".
I don't join in their nerdy weekly shenanigans every week, but if there's a cool special guest or something special…Halloween is special and everyone was bringing something and upon hopping off the N train I saw Astoria Pizzeria, shrugged my shoulders and went inside.
The menu is your standard pizzeria fare. Pizza with tons of topping choices (nothing out of this world, just the usual guests like sausage, pineapple, spinach, pepperoni, etc), pastas with different sauces, cheesy garlic knots, chicken wings, Jamaican style beef patties, etc.
I think the place is family owned since the woman that took my order was working with someone that really looked like his son (also making this assumption from how they related to one another).
Decided to get a medium pizza cheese pie, it was made to order and took roughly about 10-15 minutes to make. For $10 bucks I thought it was a pretty good deal. Came out pretty delicious although MUCH greasier than I generally prefer and since it was so greasy the sauce kind of just absorbed the cheese…I like when the cheese it melted and white on top, not see through orange-y…just my preference, lol.
Still, it was a decent pie and I would come back again if I needed to get a pie in the neighborhood. I would, however, probably look elsewhere if I was just looking for a slice to gnaw on.
Order came within a decent amount of time. Packaging was fine.
The stromboli, while flavorful, was about the size of iPhone 6 plus. It was obviously a section cut out of a much larger, full stromboli. While I'm not expecting a full pie-sized boli for $6.50, half that price would get you a damned fine pepperoni or sausage & pepper roll, but for the same size. Definitely felt undercut on that one. Doubly so since the mushrooms really tasted canned.
The Pasta Bolognese, however, was a generous portion of pasta for the sticker price. Not really a fettuccini bolognese. More pasta with really tasty and creamy vodka sauce with some meat tossed in there. Meager amount of meat, though, to call it a bolognese.
Might try again….though unlikely….though think they're a fine option, depending on who else is delivering.
Regular NY pizza. Nothing really to rave about. They stay open really late, so when you come home from bars and need a snack Astoria Pizza is usually/always open.
They have recently torn down a wall and have seemed to merge with the convenience store next door.
Pretty good pizza but a little greasier than what I'd prefer.
