  1. Trendy little sushi bar in Chelsea. The place has a very young, modern feel to it and its reflected in the type of patrons that frequent here, who tend to be young couples in their 20s and 30s. What I really love is how reasonable the prices are here, especially given the surrounding neighborhood.

I ordered the Salmon Avocado roll for starters. The salmon was very fresh, and the presentation of the roll was just beautiful.

Next up was the Shrimp Tempura roll with roe. It was sooooo good! Drizzled with spicy mayo and the fish eggs, it offered a nice combination of crispy and also creamy at the same time.

I also ordered the fried shrimp. It was left on the fryer a bit too much for my preference, but it wasn't bad.

And for dessert I ordered the fried ice cream. The skin was perfectly crisp and yet somehow also airy, and amazingly even though the outside skin was piping hot, they still managed to keep the ice cream inside nice and cold 🙂

  2. Great sushi at a decent price!!!  Came on a Thursday night without a reservation and was able to be seated within 5 minutes.  They had a nice make your own salad bar option that I started with.  Then the maki combo (3 rolls) for 15 bucks was delicious.  They also have rolls wrapped in cucumber which I have not seen often in the city which is a win in my book !  Finished off with the free ice cream if you check in on Yelp which is a plus.  I would def come back here !

  3. I was shocked to see how small this restaurant was. From the outside, it looked like there was a possibility that there was basement seating. That being said, arrive early!! Or you'll be waiting at least 20 minutes even for a party of 2. Also, there's literally no where to stand while you wait, so you'll have to deal with the fuss of people trying to push you to get inside to place their names down. With that, seating is very cramped too. Note – you can make a reservation, but they don't honor reservations. I saw/heard a family of 4 make a reservation for 7 pm, but they were told their table wasn't ready…They ended up having to wait 30 minutes even with a reservation.

My friend and I were debating whether to order the sushi for 2 ($45) or the sushi and sashimi for 2 ($49). The sushi for 2 comes with 12 pieces of sushi, a dragon roll, and a rainbow roll, while the sushi and sashimi for 2 comes with 10 pieces of sushi, 15 pieces of sashimi, and a rainbow roll. For $4 more and to get that much more food, it's a no brainier that we ordered the sushi and sashimi for 2! The sushi/sashimi platter was assembled and delivered fairly quickly; it came almost immediately after we finished our free salads. The salads were unimpressive. It was just scattered lettuce and a HUGE glob of the typical Japanese style salad dressing. The glob was so huge it really made the salad so unappealing. But that's okay because the sushi is the real star, in which it was! The sushi and sashimi platter was huge and impressive – impressive as in they took time to make it visually appealing. The sashimi was separated from the sushi and the rainbow roll as it was highlighted in its own bowl of rice. I think the ice definitely helped keep the sashimi fresh as this was the best sushi I've had from a non fancy/non traditional sushi place. You won't find any unique sashimi/sushi pieces here – just your typical salmon, tuna, white tuna, mackerel, and yellow tail, but they're seriously done so well. We also ordered 2 California uni sushi al a carte. That too was soooo good! It was my friend's first time having uni and she didn't hate it, so that says lots! I remember the first time I had uni and it was so briny and wasn't fresh that I was convinced that I didn't like uni. Silly me.

Service is left to be desired here. From the poor reservation management skills (the family did stay and get seated – I would assume they're regulars and know how good the sushi is because I couldn't fathom waiting that long otherwise) to the thing that really bothered me – continuously interrupting our meal to ask us if we were done. Clearly, they're all about turning around as many tables as possible here; they looked annoyed whenever we told them we ordered more and were waiting on our food. Regardless of the lack of service here, I'll be back because the food was that good.

Don't forget to check in at the end of your meal for your free scoop of ice cream!

  4. Great lunch spot.
3 roll maki special for lunch-12.50 which includes soup or salad. And there's a salad BAR! Never saw that before.

I had spicy tuna, philadelphia roll, and alaska roll. All were good.

  5. This place is amazing…the food is excellent. I love sushi so you can't go wrong, the cocktails were just as good. Our bartender Barbara was amazing and attentive. I am totally a fan of this place, can't wait to go back.

  6. Have been here multiple times and have always enjoyed it! It's got a dark trendy ambiance with a good amount of tables. The place is always packed on weekend nights, but they do take reservations so it always pays off to plan ahead. The only downside is that there's very little space to stand while you're waiting and it seems like you're hovering over other people eating, which can be a little annoying.

The food here is always really great. My favorite sushi rolls are the Chelsea roll and the crazy lobster, and the angry lobster roll. We also tried the Thai fried rice last night for the first time and it was delicious with just the right amount of spice. I asked for some spicy sauce on the side, which just ended up just being sriracha, but the dish had enough spice that I didn't end up using it.

All in all this is a great place for date night or small groups with a good ambiance and great food!

  7. I've been to Asuka Sushi twice now for dinner.  They have a pretty long happy hour which involves buy one get one free beer, cocktails, and sake.  This translates to 3-4 dollar beer and 4-5 dollar cocktails which is not a bad deal for this area.  The place generally gets pretty busy but I didn't have a wait either time I went.  The sushi is pretty good (not the best I've ever had, but not bad!).

The service has always been friendly, fast, and efficient.  If you are in the area, craving sushi, and want some reasonably priced drinks during happy hour, I would definitely check out Asuka Sushi.

  8. Good sushi delivered quickly.

Nothing too remarkable but i was pleased with my order and it was fairly good value.
