  1. I lovvvvved ABP when I was in law school.  There was one in the little mall area across from my school and it was my go to lunch spot.  I live near this ABP but I rarely need lunch when I am at home, ya know?  So when I walked by here on a workday I asked my coworker if we could stop in so I could grab a sandwich.  She had to wait outside because she was getting pushed around too much trying to wait for me inside.  It was overwhelmingly crowded.  Also, the sandwich felt smaller than I was used to in DC and the prices are too high.  I was disappointed with my experience and somehow it satisfied (and ended) my craving for ABP.

  2. I like Au Bon Pain. It is what it is, a Starbucks with better food and worse coffee. Have had a few sandwiches here and they are ok, better than Subway but not as good as a good sub shop. I love that they have an internet club thats free to sign up for and they send you free stuff alot. Just cashed in a coupon for a free coffee and bakery item, got a cherry strudel and it was pretty darn good. Flaky with a chocolate drizzl and powdered sugar on top. Filling couldve been a little better but for nothing I aint complaining. I usually get the cherry danish (I like cherries) but they had no more. Its a huge and very nicely filled danish, just get them early because they get a tad hard later in the day and I admit the window display case sometimes creeps me out a bit.

  3. Recent visit at store #705 was entirely MEH.

Facilities do exist but do not expect service.  A franchise chain for mass produced baked goodies, but at very reasonable prices.

  4. This is the busiest Au Bon Pain I've even been to, and that wasn't even at lunchtime.  They are right in the Financial District and City Hall, so that makes sense, so even though its often so packed I have appreciated the few times I've been there how genial the staff has been towards me.  I know a lot of other reviewers have not had a similar staff experience, so I count myself fortunate.

  5. **Update: there is another new ABP on Fulton (btw Dutch & William Streets)**

I walked by today and and the windows were covered with brown paper and a sign was posted that stated they've been closed as of May 25.

Rent must have gone up in the area because of the new WTC.

    Oh well…now I'm minus one lunch option….

    Au revoir, mon ami.

  6. i'm here quite often as i work right here and i always end up here for lunch if i have nowhere else to go or if its too cold and i dont want to walk far. the options so far are decent, the lobster roll during the summer was by far my favorite. they are always bustling around lunch time and the lines are insane. the croissants and pastries are all pretty delicious and the salads are nice too. they always say hi to me when i order lunch so i find that nice but i only give 3 stars because i took one off for the lack of hot tasty meaty sandwiches, and another star off because the layout of the store is not practical and functional. you'll always be in someone's way no matter where you stand!

  7. This is a review for the new location near William Street.

When Chipotle has far too many customers during lunchtime, go to the girl next door – Au Bon Pain. She's a saucy mistress and can entice you with practically the same dish – except better, and with perhaps a slightly healthier kick.

I thoroughly enjoyed my Southwest Chicken Salad (spiced chicken, corn, beans, avocado – I am sold) with its accompanying dressing. This Au Bon Pain also appears to be decently spacious and has lots of seating available even during the lunch rush hours (probably because it just opened? Not sure.)

The service is also very friendly and helpful. I encountered no lines while I was here, which was a fantastic thing to experience during 12 pm. I look forward to coming here especially when Chipotle becomes overpopulated and impossible to get into.

  8. Fresh squeezed orange juice is very yummy. We came here both mornings before starting our day. Quick and friendly service.
