A chain, not much to say except for specifics to this location.

Located underground near the subway (B, D, F, V) and Rockefeller center, this location does get busy in the morning. It's a prime stop for morning coffee, bagels, pastries and more. All of it is self-serve except for bagels, which is by order. You pay at the cashiers, who are fast.

The layout of this au bon pain is a bit more confusing than other ones I've been too but it's not difficult at all once you look around.

I work in Rockefeller Plaza and when I descend down from my desk into the tourist maelstrom in the basement at lunchtime, I want to get a sandwich without wading through a huge crowd and standing in a huge line of pikers.

To do that, I go to Au Bon Pain.  It is technically in the entrance to the 47-50 Street subway station, and it is just enough out of the way that it is busy, but never nutso at lunch.  It is a small shop, but has all the usual Au Bon stuff, such as sandwiches, soups, salads, and pastries.

The food is good and the staff is friendly.  It all works for me.

I grew up eating Au Bon Pain when I first came to the US for school as a 7 year old and lived in Boston for two years.. and every time I travel to a city that hosts one, I feel inclined to stop.

I love that the East Coast franchise sells good coffee, boiled eggs, salads, soups, delicious filled croissants of both the savory (the spinach and cheese & ham and cheese are both really good) and sweet variety (mmmchocolate), and made to order sandwiches, wraps, and croissants. They also sell a variety of kid-friendly options like mac and cheese, chicken tenders, and cups of watermelon or grape. Most people will find something suitable for them as an option for a quick meal or snack.

This one in particular offers plenty of seating and is right by the Rockefeller Center.

    My go-to lunch spot

I'm so surprised about the ratings. I love to come here and get a fresh made sandwich and a bowl of speciality soup. I like that you can try out the soup. Great location fast service.

    I like:

    Soup:
    Corn Chowder Soup
    Turkey Chili
    Chicken Gumbo

    Fresh Bread: Rosemary Bread Stick

    Sandwiches:
    Chicken Salad Sandwich
    Turkey Cubano
    Caprese w/Chicken
    Turkey Cranberry Brie –tasty

I would stick w/the  Ciabatta bread. The multigran bread is a bit hard.

Agree with a previous Yelper the layout of this Au Bon Pain is weird as I wonder in circles to checkout. With the lack of space and extreme high rent sitting in a upscale location as Rockefeller Plaza I suppose the layout can be reconfigured without the check-out at a inconvenient spot. Service is efficient and courteous.  There are more choice of bagels than other Au Bon Pain locations as I've seen. Self-serve pastries except for bagels and select sandwiches.

This sits in the underground shopping mall of Rockefeller Plaza adjacent to the B, D, F, and M trains.

It's located conveniently right outside of the Rockefeller Center subway stop So I always stop by in the morning to pick up some asiago cheese bagels when I'm walking to work. I'm pretty sensitive to lactose, so I don't eat the cheese, but the bagels still retain so much flavor. Also, they're so affordable as a quick breakfast. I've also tried the Jalapeno cheddar and plain bagels, and they're all really high quality.

The line moves quickly and efficiently in the morning, and they don't tax if you're getting food to go.

Took off a star, because the place has an overpowering and peculiar smell wafting throughout the store. I don't think I'd ever be able to sit down and eat.
