  1. If you love meringues, you will love this. They are so good! It is basically a meringue with cream inside and they have different flavors-caramel,cherry,chocolate, and more. The best part is that it is gluten free too!

  2. Cute French pastry shop. The staff are patient and welcoming as I contemplated my selections and offered some brioche samples as well. It's mainly the storefront, not room for seating so take it to the park to enjoy.

Coffee merveuilleux – A very light, delicate, but interestingly multi-faceted dessert. The merveilleux are little meringues filled with flavored cream and topped off with shavings or toffee bits. The whole thing might last a couple of bites. Toppings were crisp, toasty little explosions of flavor. Best to eat these while they're fresh. On a hot day like when I was visiting, they'd probably melt in transit.

Mini Chocolate Brioche – Fluffy and buttery crumb with browned and glossy washed crust. Rich flavor, light texture, with little morsels of semi-sweet chocolate mixed in. Like biting into a cloud, the chocolate bits catch your attention but then mellow out and blends in nicely but with the bread. Nailed it.

The craftsmanship is high, the treats are refined and tasty, the price is fairly reasonable, but not compelling enough for a detour. Would definitely stop if I were in the area to sample more flavors.

  3. Stumbled upon this place after a walk on the Highline and had never tried merengue before. The pictures on Yelp looked amazing and all the reviews raved about it, so we gave it a go! One of the best parts of this small shop is the fact that they have a display case with all of the choices before you walk in…that way you know exactly what you want before ordering.

I ordered the double chocolate and my wife had the praline. Both were light, flavorful and extremely delicious. I also love that each merengue is only 85 calories and you don't feel full after eating one. It is a sweet treat that doesn't pack the weight. I really wish they had this place in Charlotte, so that we could enjoy this delicacy more often.

You definitely need to stop into this place if you live in NYC or just visiting.

  4. Brioche is on point – probably the best in the city and best enjoyed on a stroll through the village. Waffles are thin and very sweet. Only knock is that it's kind of expensive.

  5. I have been wanting to try this dessert spot for a while – even had it bookmarked!

Yesterday we just finished up at the Pier 51 Playground and wanted a sweet treat. When I checked my handy dandy Yelp app, I saw that we were 4 blocks away from Aux Merveilleux de Fred so we figured we would give it a shot.

To our surprise it is a take-out only restaurant. When I asked where the seating was, I was directed to the benches outside. Totally fine, but unexpected.

They served brioche and merveileux which is a cream and merengue pastry covered in shaved chocolate or nuts. The consistency is extremely light. You don't feel stuffed after eating one.

    We had:

    – iced coffee – very good

    – sugar brioche – very good and not too sweet

    – Coffee Merveilleux – excellent

    – Dark Chocolate Merveilleux – my kids liked this better than I did. I am not a big chocolate person

    – Cherry Merveilleux – delicious and not too sweet

    – Hazelnut Merveilleux – very good

    – Caramel Merveilleux – delicious

    – White Chocolate Merveileux – my favorite

When dining in the Village or the Meat Packing District, I would definitely stop in again for these super yummy treats.

  6. Wow! This place well deserves 5 stars. The pastries are to die for!

The sugar cramiques comes in a 'large' and you feel like a little fatty getting it, but the melted sugar inside of it is just too good to pass up. The hubby and I shared and it was light, not overly sweet, not dry and similar to sweet filipino bread that is very addictive.

We also got the waffles with the butter, sugar and rum inside… honestly need I say more? Just by the mere description, we immediately had to get this too! The 6 waffles are nicely wrapped in a gold colored foil bag. Its a bit of a surprise since you don't know how they look like, but indeed a very good surprise. We were told that both dessert should be kept at room temperature. I honestly doubt the desserts will last through the next day as we will easily consume everything very, very soon.

It was a pleasant experience with friendly staff and they had samples of the cramiques which helped make our initial selection, but we will definitely be back to try more.

  7. At $2.45 per piece those meringues, if you can call them that, is much sicker deal than macaroons! Maybe macaroons are harder to make, but those meringues are so much better! They are filled with delicious cream and topped with amazing little bites of stuff, and last more than 2 bites (or one if you don't savor your macaroons).

Super cute shop, and the rest of their selection looks amazing. Will definitely be back for more.

  8. I happened to stumble across this treasure on my way from the subway to our hotel in Chelsea. It smelled amazing so I stopped by to take a look. The treats are so good that it became a tradition that we stopped there every morning for breakfast during our trip. I only tried the chocolate brioche, but it was perfect. The amount of chocolate varies per brioche, because they cut them individually. They have a large and small size. On the mornings when we were also stopping for another breakfast I would grab a brioche on the way so I could have a snack for later in the afternoon. They are made fresh, and you can watch them and make the meringue treats in the window. My friend had the plain brioche, and she also said it was amazing. She had several of the fancy coffees and recommends them as well. The service was equally as good. The employees took the time to answer all questions. I would definitely recommend this place whenever you are in the area!
