Great Neck has no shortage of (usually Iranian inspired) shish kebab joints, but this one is different.
For one thing, it's not kosher, and they serve such things as lobster, but being vegetarian myself, I'm just here for the felafel.
They have a lunch special here, and my father and I end up paying 25 dollars for two. He gets salmon kebab, and we each get a Greek salad. My felafel platter came with rice and hummus and some vegetables here and there.
Overall, I enjoy the food here. Not spectacular, but pretty good, and a very nice alternative to chipotle, pizza, or Chinese takeout. Sometimes you should spoil yourself.
We order take out but I find the earing area to be pleasant. Well lit and nicely decorated all around
The service is very nice. Everyone is courteous.
You'll have to play for metered parking.
In closing, Ayhan's in great neck is definitely worth giving a try.
Not only was the meal a rip off but the waitstaff and manager insulted my mother and me throughout the entire meal.
We went for brunch and when asking about certain advertised items, they stated they didn't have them and when we mentioned that port Washington did, he said they didn't even have a brunch (which they do by the way).
The salad didn't seem fresh, and they had blue fish instead of the white fish they have at Port Washington. Everything seemed a bit overdone as well, and their carving station wasn't put out until we requested it. Upon request, the manager placed down a steak, which he cut up and left out. While the steak wasn't bad, the presentation was off.
Then they charged me for a diet coke because I wasn't of age to have their complimentary mimosa. Apparently if I asked for a virgin mimosa (an orange juice) that would've been okay. Then the manager offered me a shot of tequila and said "don't tell me you've never had one" despite me telling him I'm not 21 yet.
Upon sharing my disgust and having other patrons agree, the bartender asked me to lower my voice. This was after a whole other party walked out 20 minutes earlier for their own set of problems. Guess they can't face their own ineptitude.
Please do not patronize this place. The food at Ayhans in Port Washington is far better and the service there is beyond much better.
Additional Note: After reporting my complaints to Ayhan's in Port Washington, the manager there and the owner were more than apologetic. I feel good about recommending the Ayhan's name, and other establishments, but please go there instead of wasting your time and money here.
