  1. If your looking for a delicious Vietnamese sandwich, you have to try this place! I am not a huge fan of pork, so opted for chicken instead. After seeing all of the positive reviews and a mouth watering photo I decided to try for myself a grilled chicken banh (banh mi ga nuong # 9) myself. She asked me how spicy I wanted it, I opted for mild.

The bread was super crispy and honestly probably enough for two people to split. It was only $5.75, not bad! The place is an authentic Vietnamese little place. Don't expect anything fancy. But, do expect cheap sandwiches and drinks!

  2. Great crusty French Baguette with very tasty meats and perfectly pickled veggies. This is the quintessential hole in the wall offering classic Vietnamese sandwiches and great iced coffee.

Prices are reasonable. Food is fresh and good. This is my go-to place for Vietnamese sammiches.

  3. Best banh mi I've ever had. How to review the perfect such? The bread is awesomely flaky and tasty with the right combo of time in oven, salt, and bread-y-ness. The meat is marinated perfectly with cilantro in the right amounts to accent it. The pate is thin but present, perfectly creaming between the ingredients. The freshness just makes everything that much more satisfying.

Staff are friendly, speak Mandarin, Viet, Cantonese, and English all well. Speed is very fast. There's the often cited and ill-located jeweler in the waiting area. The waiting area is huge with a tv tuned to Vietnamese live streaming tv. Everything's very clean and 1 can see the whole kitchen area which increases confidence and happiness. It truly is the best hero sandwich in the city as voted in the "Village Voice".

  4. If you are famous for making one thing then you better make it right. Here at ba xuyen they specialize in making bhan mi and they are definitely doing it right. Usually we only see the traditional bhan mi at the viet restaurants that's consist of the Vietnamese cold cuts, pickled carrots/radish, and etc but here they make different kinds of bhan mis and each one is unique and delicious.

This small mom and pop viet sandwich shop is hidden down in sunset park right around the recreation center and in and area where you wouldn't expect to find some awesome food. The store is simple. The have a menu board behind the counter dedicated to the different bhan mi they serve. You pick one (or 2) sandwiches you want and they make it right in front of you. I usually get the original and grilled pork. Both are held in a fresh hero that is toasted and spread with a sweet Vietnamese mayo like sauce. They get treated with the same vegetables: cilantro, pickled carrots, and cucumber. The grilled pork was sweet/salty and they give you huge chunks. The original was the best I've had. The ingredients are simple but done very well.

The owners are very nice. They greet you with a smile and you are treated well. Definitely something you need to try if you are in the sunset park area!

  5. Yowwwwwzers! This place has some badass Viet sandwiches. 0.0 Coming from Seattle where Viet delis are often around the corner, I was pretty impressed with the banh mi quality here. It's big, tasty, and best of all, very filling.

I ordered a combo number one sandwich  and a chicken rice meal. How I usually judge banh mi is based on these factors: the seasoning of the veggies, the pâté and quality of the meat. Ba Xuyen passes the test with flying colors and before I leave NYC this weekend, must get it again 🙂

As for the chicken rice dish, this was the typical seasoned chicken leg served with rice, fish sauce and veggies. Overall, it's a filling meal but compared to other places I have been to, taste of the chicken was alright.

As for the place itself, you could either order to go or eat at one of the few small tables in the store. Staff is friendly and overall, great spot for banh miiiiiiii!

  6. quality is not as great as it used to be. This used to be the best place to get viet sandwiches in the whole Brooklyn area. The bread is super crunchy and I love the fact that they dig the middle of the bread out, More room for meat and veggie. But the meat is mushy now. I used to love the BBQ pork sandwich, now the original number 1 is better.

  7. Food: 3.5/5.0
    Service: 2.5/5.0
    Value: 4.5/5.0
    Decor: 2.5/5.0
    Overall: 3.5/5.0

The banh mi here are good and the pricing is right at just $5 a pop.  However, a) this is not a high rent  area so 'normal' prices would be gouging, and b) a banh mi is a banh mi is a banh mi, and this happens to just be a good banh mi rather than a 4.5 star wonder of a sandwich.  The coffees are good but they're a whole lot of ice and not much coffee – the value here sits primarily in the sandwiches.

  8. 3.5 stars.

Good Bahn Mi – Vietnamese sandwiches – at this busy spot in the middle of Sunset Park. They have a handful of tables, but most people just grab their food and go.

I got their famous paté ham BBQ pork roll, and despite the mediocre quality of the meat, the sandwich was solid.

It's open until 6:30p. Cash only.
