delicious food and coffee, small little cafe with only about 8 seats (4 tall tables with 8 bar-stools).
The food was simple and easy. Most are not large portions so be aware that this could be perfect for someone wanting a light meal but not someone training for a muscle competition.
The service was more of a 1) order and pay, 2) seat yourself, 3) wait,… we waited about 10 minutes for our food,.. 4) devour food (probably did so in less than 5 minutes), and 5) clean up after yourself and place dishes in dish bin and trash in the trash bin
If I was a resident in the neighborhood, I'd def come back. Since I'm an out-of-town visitor, I'd probably skip this place and go somewhere else more unique (unless I really was sick of all the good food in NYC/Brooklyn and just wanted something light.. hey.. it could happen ;))
I hopped in here marathon morning for a quick bite to eat before cheering on the runners. Scored a table to watch the race as I ate my vegetarian sandwich. The service was very slow, and not just because of the crowd. The chef had only two burners going for all these people! The coffee was good and the food was fresh.
After a few brunches at Baba Cool, my conclusions are:
– stick to the toasts, especially the avocado, the strawberry/ricotta, and the butternut squash if it's available. Really high quality ingredients (especially the bread), very fresh. The kale salad is also a winner, but it is not immune to the overall problem with the menu (toasts excepted): the prices are way too high compared to what you're getting. Sandwiches are especially egregiously overpriced.
– if a seat is open, grab it quick. People are savages in there when a table opens up. Worse is that the tables are extremely close together in the small space, so if you've got a douche sitting behind you, chances are you're going to get an elbow in the back a few times.
– service isn't the fastest or the friendliest. Iced coffee is very good, hot coffee is average.
Normally I'd call Baba Cool a pass given the many other options in the area, but man are those toasts good.
