  1. Backyard is a cozy, little gastropub. The restaurant is very intimate and dimly lit which set a romantic atmosphere. Backyard is fantastic location for a date.

The menu is limited in regards to food, beer, and wine; however, the liquor selection, particularly whiskey, and the craft cocktails are quite extensive. There were about only about five beers on tap and about two dozens wines. The drafts included some craft and local options.

I shared the New England clam chowder as well as the short rib special of the day. The chowder was creamy and hearty. It was a very savory dish. I was underwhelmed by the short ribs. I felt they were over cooked. I enjoyed the kale and mashed potato sides that came with the short ribs. It also came with a tangy sauce adding to the flavor profile of the dish.

The service was very friendly and attentive. The staff made the pub feel quite homey.

  2. Do you like whiskey? Because I LOVE whiskey. Their list has some amazing selections, and tons of stuff I've never even heard of before. Our bartender Alex (funny guy whose photos are all over the bathroom… long story) made some great recommendations. The Ransom Spirits Whipper Snapper and the Sonoma Distilling Co 2nd Chance Wheat were both excellent. And very, very affordable as well.

We sat in the backyard, because why the hell would you go to a place called Backyard and not sit in the backyard? They have a good number of tables, and also the ring game (which I loathe with a passion).

Ended up hungry, and I ordered the meatloaf club sandwich. It had wonderfully crispy bacon in it. And it was on ciabatta bread. It was excellent.

They also give you a little pickle plate, with beats, red onions and other goodies.

Their fries (more like wedges) are also excellent.

Suffice to say, I'm a fan of this place!

  3. Brunch here ends at 4pm for all my fellow sleepy heads that wake up on Saturdays during that time, and looking to grab a late brunch.

We got here at 4:10 and the waitress was nice enough to let us be the last call before the kitchen closes. We ordered the #wealleats and smoked salmon flatbread. Both was really good. The grits in the #wealleats could have used some more seasoning, however grits are usually on the blander side. The smoked salmon flat bread is definitely recommended if you like lox with some dill spread. It also came with arugula salad, which was a little too salty for my taste if you eat it alone. I placed it on top of my flatbread and placed some fried egg over easy style to make it less salty.

The backyard bubbles is also delicious! They also have a full bar to make any drink you want so don't be afraid to ask 🙂

  4. Pretty neat brunch spot.

I was craving only pancakes this particular day I stopped into Backyard, so didn't really read the menu. They delivered with a simple, but very tasty, stack of pancakes- warm, fluffy and filling!

It was a little crowded so we opted for the outdoor seating. Naturally, their "backyard" was cool. A very chill spot to hang and eat.

The ambiance, the staff and the food all passed in my book. I should definitely come back and see what else is on the brunch menu…

  5. While it was too chilly to dine outside, it is on the agenda for Spring.  What a charming, friendly, place.  2 for $5 beers at happy hour… Full pints.  Blue plate special $12?  Full meal?!  Unheard of price and delicious… Roasted veggies, pulled bbq pork, cheesy grits, meatloaf so good, make ya wanna slap ya mama…

  6. Backyard has won my friends rate of approval! If you're looking for somewhere you can sit, drink, and gossip for hours without interruption of the bill Backyard  is a great spot.

My friends and I came around 7 PM on a Thursday night so it wasn't as crowded as it would be on a weekend. Upon entering we were greeted by the bartender and we walked passed the bar to the backyard. Nothing too fancy this place has just the right amount of lighting and fans to keep a chill vibe . There is no urgency at backyard so be prepared  to wait a bit for drinks. That wasn't a problem for my group of five as we had enough to catch up on. Backyard has a full menu of whiskey and various beers.
Backyard is not the place to really grab a bite as they are limited in choices . All my friends ordered the backyard salad ($10) which had cranberries walnuts, parm, cheese and lettuce. No complaints. The rest of the night was just drinks.

Prices here are about average. Service 9/10 . (They forgot my friends cocktail) And for being left alone to just talk for hours this bar easily is a great summer spot to try.

  7. Food: wasn't a huge variety but everything was delicious… Got the pulled pork sandwich… Also a good variety of mixed drinks and wine

Service: bartender was serving the tables as well as the bar but she was very attentive and on top of everything

Ambience: small and cozy inside.. Looked like there is an outdoor patio in back

  8. Ordered: Short rib special and Clam chowder

Pros–The soup was savory and had a sufficient amount of clams. The ambiance was relaxing and the waitress was very nice.

Cons–There was only one waitress managing the tables so service wasn't as attentive as I would've liked. The short rib wasn't that flavorful and the kale and mashed potatoes were a bit on the peppery side.
