New York and their bagels! So, I heard. I'm from Cali, and we're not huge on bagels except when employer provides them for free one random morning and everyone herds over to grab one.
On my NY trip, my aunt said she would treat us to breakfast near her house in Long Island. I was thinking, sweet!?? My first New York bagel!!! Let's just say, I wasn't disappointed.
Hubby ordered the bagel with cream cheese and lox (smoked salmon). The bagel was fresh and chewy, the cream cheese was fluffy and the smoked salmon was delish! Not fishy or tough at all!!
I ordered their random Bagel Breakfast Burrito. It had huge chunks of potato, eggs and veggies. It was darn filling, so I saved the other half to-go.
*They also have fresh squeezed OJ, which I would recommend.
My sister ordered their blueberry bagel with plain cream cheese. I would also recommend the blueberry! It was really moist and divine!
(I wonder if San Diego has any places that sells good bagels with cream cheese and lox?? The mission is on!)
This is my husband's family's go to place for bagels in their local town. The bagels are good NY bagels. I'm not a whitefish/ smoke fish/ lox/ tuna salad kinda gal, but they love theirs from here. I have had the cream cheese, and it's good. I have had the egg salad, and it's decent. I have had the macaroni salad (when I ordered potato salad, but getting the attention of someone to correct that seemed more complicated than it was worth), and it was horrible — tangy and the pasta wasn't cooked enough. I found the staff terribly unfriendly and not just in a NY deli style manner — like in a completely disinterested in serving anyone way. Its got a cute atmosphere and parking is nicely off street. It's better than getting a bagel at Dunks — though Gary M.'s comment about the roach really just grossed me out pretty royally!
I don't know why this place got such poor reviews. The French toast bagel was great. Iced coffee on point. The baked blueberry gamer cheese was pretty good. Yes it was expensive but so is real estate! The service was fine. Yes there was a line, but that proves that the food is worth waiting for and this place turns over their food. Moral of this story…if you can't afford a $3.00 bagel don't live on LI.
Love the bagels, but could the service be any slower. They seem to have a bunch of employees but the line moves at s snails pace and there always seems to be a line.
