In terms of food this place would get four stars but service and general bad manners of staff let this place down. Taylor ham, egg and cheese is the best around nj. But be prepared to wait 20 minutes for someone to take your order and another 15 minutes for it to come out.
I don't know why I keep returning. Their bagels are not very good. Stale a lot of times. Even the people at work are disappointed by the quality. I do like their coffee and staff for the most part. Since it's the only bagel shop for a couple of miles it does draw the commuter crowd and locals. Bagels are small and they barely put cc on their bagels…plus it's higher than my favorite spot in NP…which I would drive out of my way to go to.
came here one day for a work lunch with colleagues on a thursday afternoon during lunch rush hour. there wasn't really any line in the store! completely unlike what the other reviews have said ,but i think they were referencing more morning type visits.
despite the outside parking area / driving area being a crazy madhouse, it was actually quite nice and peaceful inside the bagel shop. PROTIP: free side street parking for 1 hour if you can find a space on the street!
i ordered the chicken salad bagel on a sesame bagel. I really wanted to love it, and the bagel was great quality. but i just thought it lacked that extra oompf. BAGEL: you can clearly tell the bagel itself is homemade and very fresh. I would have liked it oven-toasted a little bit though (and maybe its my fault, i didnt inquire whether or not they could do that for me). the sesame bagel was thick and full of dense yummylicious carbs. CHICKEN SALAD part: i got the chicken salad on a bagel and asked for lettuce and onions. They gave very little lettuce on my bagel but definitely overcompensated on the awesome thinly sliced onions. My co workers made a joke that they're not going to schedule meetings with me in the afternoon! (which is the only reason why i ordered the onions anyway because i knew i didnt have any face to face meetings planned). The lettuce they used was the normal type thin deli type, nothing with substance.
some of my co workers got a normal sandwich on normal bread – that looked pretty good! and two got the corned beef reuben that was GINORMOUS!
i knocked 1/2 star for the price. my sandwich only (but it comes with sides of regular lays tasting chips and a pickle) was around $7. yes, even though the actual bagel sandwich itself is large and i only ate 1/2 of it for lunch, i just thought that the food tasted lightly above par. maybe i need to come back for more breakfast type bagels in the future!
A bagel was in order after our ass-crack-of-dawn softball game and our Yelp app lead us to The Bagel Chateau. You place your order at the counter with the cooks but if the cooks are busy, then you have to stand there and wait until they're finishing doing whatever they're doing before they help you. We were waiting for a while before anyone acknowledged us (meanwhile they're right in front of us). We actually went to the register and asked the cashier where we were supposed to order. He said "Right where you were". Thanks, so let us go back to standing over there where no one is helping us and now there is a line forming. What kind of idiotic setup is that?
After what seemed like an eternity we both ordered a bagel with lox and cream cheese (everything bagel for me and 7 grain bagel for him). I ordered mine with the works (capers, tomatoes, onions, cucumber and lettuce) and he ordered the "plain" version (crinkle cut potato chips came along with his…does anyone really need or want potato chips with their bagel?). Our order came to almost $23. WHAT?! The only saving grace was that there was a lot of lox on our bagels so it was (sort of) worth the price. The bagels were small and they were a bit chewy, but there was so much friggen lox on there that you couldn't really taste the bagel anyway. And why does only one side of the everything bagel have "everything" on it?
There is no waitstaff service. There is a bus boy who comes around and collects the dirty dishes that are left behind. Do you tip him? We did. Was that wrong?
This place looks very tired. It felt like a cold, rainy day in there even though the sun was shining and it was gorgeous out. I was happy to get the hell out of there!
They are breakfast sandwich making experts. They've got the thing down to a science, so when its busy (and it most definitely gets busy); there's no confusion. Order, pay, pick up, eat.
Whenever I'm in town with extra time in the morning, I choose this place. Their ingredients are fresh and hot and yummy. Did I mention I really dig bagel chateau? I'm sounding like a commercial.
