You know you've found a solid bagel place when fellow Glen Rock expats in the Philadelphia area (*cough* Nicole H. *cough*) are writing to tell you that in one weekend at home she indulged in not one, not two, but three hometown doughy-wonders. Why would she do such a gluttonous thing? Well basically because if you travel anywhere outside the NY-Metro area there is no semblance of a real bagel to be found, whoever thinks a bagel is just a roll with a hole in the middle needs their head examined.
Hand rolled, boiled and baked is the name of the game and when the ovens are fired up at 4am it's game-time. There is nothing like a hot and fresh, crisp, dense and doughy (without being chewy) bagel stacked up with taylor ham and cheese to get a weekend morning off to a good start.
Of course if some of their heart-attack inducing concoctions are too over the top for you, you can err on the side of caution with something as simple as cream cheese, but really, what's the point? If these suckers traveled well, I would share the love with everyone back in Philly just so they could see what they are missing.
Bacon/sausage egg and cheese sandwiches are good. Bagels are good quality. I prefer cheddar cheese over American. The only problem with these bagels is all the cheese accumulates in the middle leaving the outer rim cheese less. It's kinda disappointing and dry towards the end. On another note, if you are feeling brave they have an in house food challenge in which they make this ridiculous sandwich called the "behemoth". I think you have to finish it in 15-20 minutes. Never tried it though. Only two people completed the challenge. All in all not a bad bagel spot but not the best either.
