3.5 stars for good bagels, usually friendly staff and a strange layout.
I live across the street so I was really excited that Bagel Pub opened. Their location in Park Slope was the first place I ever had a New York bagel with lox, so I've got fond memories of the place. When I went to this new location on opening week, the girl who helped me was kind of rude and dismissive. Big turn off.
But, the convenience got to me and I couldn't stay away from their whole wheat everything bagels. To be honest, I've never tried another bagel from here, but I have had it with all the topping options – ABC, bacon and egg, olive cream cheese, veggie cream cheese, scallion cream cheese, etc. They're great bagels. The service is pretty speedy, even when it's crowded (and boy does it get crowded in the mornings). And – bonus – I haven't seen the rude server since!
My only complaint is the way the ordering process works. You have to walk all the way to the back of the place to order your bagel. Then, you wait in line for the cash registers. While in line, someone (sometimes) will ask if you want a drink. Other times, you'll get to the register and they act annoyed that no one took your drink order and they're now forced to go make you a smoothie. There needs to be some organized process for ordering drinks, like there is with the bagels.
ANYWAY. Overall, I'll keep frequenting bagel pub because I love ww everything bagels that are within a 0.1 mile radius of my front door. So thank you for that
This is a cool spot to grab breakfast or lunch. At first glance I thought it was simply a place to grab a bagel and a coffee. However, once you step in you'll see that there's a great variety of bagels, spreads, sandwiches and pastries. There's even a juice bar.
I'm glad I finally stopped by yesterday. It's not been open for very long, but every time I pass it, it seems to be fairly crowded. There's a plenty of seating if you want to sit down and eat and there's also free wifi. For my first visit I went with the egg everything bagel and a green tea. No complaints, will return soon.
I'm SO HAPPY this place opened. There are a few bagel places in this neighborhood but they almost exclusively serve bagels. Go figure that the place with bagel in it's name serves way more than just bagels. Thank god.
The menu here is huge- breakfast options, salads, sandwiches, smoothies, coffee, tea, and probably a lot of other scrumptious things I haven't had yet. It's perfect for when you're in the mood for something quick and no one can agree on what to eat.
I've been coming here consistently in the 2 or so months since this place has opened and my only real gripe is the slow service. I've waited upwards of 20mins for food when the place was almost empty (several times). To their credit, the employees at the register always notice when you've been waiting and "check on your order," although it still takes a loooong time to come out. So, don't grab something here when you're on a time crunch. Hopefully as time goes on they'll work out the kinks and get the service up to speed.
I think it's still to early to give this review, as they just opened a few days ago and I know things can be chaotic at the beginning. I went at non rush hour and my bagel only took a few moments to make. I think the layout of the restaurant limits its ability to be a good pre-work coffee spot. The line starts in the back and it creates a lot of traffic buy the registers. Also the table for creams and sugars is very small, I had to wAit longer to put milk in my coffee than to actually get my bagel. Wish the menu was up instead of in small menu pamphlets. They have a nice selection of bagels, salad, soups, oatmeal and even quesadillas. I ordered the lox special, it weighed so much ! It was probably because of the massive amount of cream cheese, I literally think they put a full cup of it! A mess to eat, but a yummy one. As for the bagel itself, is not bad. One of the better ones in this area.
Hooray!
After I posted my review, Bagel Pub contacted me thanking me for alerting them about their needing to follow the customer's order more closely. I've gone back a few times and my order has been perfect each time. I'm a very happy customer.
My favorite thing to order is a toasted poppy seed bagel with the cranberry apple tuna salad. They give a generous portion of tuna salad.
I also love getting a watermelon lemonade. They juice watermelon right into the lemonade when you order. The drink is wonderfully fresh and a great summer drink.
PRAISE SWEET BABY JESUS there's a new bagel place in the neighborhood! Just what we needed.
Came in around 1 pm and the line was long, but it moves pretty quickly. It's the pretty standard ordering line, but there are multiple cashiers taking coffee and juice orders–people not paying attention were the cause of the line back up.
Because I was a hungry beast and didn't want to f*ck around, I ordered a sesame cream cheese bagel–quick to make, quick to eat. My bagel was perfectly chewy with just the right amount of schmear. Our other bacon-egg-cheese-avocado everything bagel looked like it was just bursting with ingredients, and no complaints were made on that order.
My only gripe (if it's a gripe at all) is that there just isn't enough seating. There is a large communal table in the back of the shop, and a handful of two person tables in the middle and front. We snagged two of the counter seats by the window, but were nearly frozen each time the door opened. They do offer free WiFi though, which is a plus.
Welcome to the block, Bagel Pub. I look forward to continuing our relationship.
Aweeeeeeeeeesome. Their bagels are so good! Be sure to try the whole wheat everything, or my classic – poppy seed. SO MANY POPPY SEEDS! They've got amazing juices and smoothies here too (The Hulk is a classic). Aside from the pretty (un)friendly faces here, this is a great spot.
I rolled around my tiny little high school with the hottest girl on my arm. I thought I was something special. Then I went off to college in the city and I realized that there wasn't anything special about high school me. That girl on my arm, she was small potatoes compared to the city girls. I broke up with her via AOL instant messenger and never looked back.
So what does this have to do with Bagel Pub? Well, in similar fashion, I rolled around Tampa thinking that I knew what a good bagel was. It took me four hours in New York to realize that those "bagels" I was eating were nothing more than tiny little crust rocks. They were small grains of wheat compared to the Bagel Pub bagels.
I was sent to Bagel Pub with a huge list of food for the still sleeping mass of people at the apartment I was staying in. While I waited to order, I noticed the case right in front of the ordering area was full of what I initially thought was gelato. Weird that they would have gelato at a bagel place. Then it dawned on me, that wasn't gelato. That was the cream cheese for the bagels. There were mounds and mounds of different cream cheese flavors. Little bacon pieces and walnut pieces and chives adorned the top of these mounds. Very impressive, if you are into that sort of thing. I read off my list of bagels to the man taking the orders. Some had cream cheeses, some were meat covered, some were vegan, one had peanut butter. Some were toasted, some were not. I was a bit nervous considering some of the other reviews on here mentioned Bagel Pubs knack for messing up orders. After I paid and was given my sack of bagels, I checked to make sure everything was right. Despite the difficulty of the order, everything was perfect.
My bagel of choice was a plain pumpernickel everything one. The bagel was huge. It had a nice crispy exterior and an extremely soft, chewy interior (I did not have it toasted). The pumpernickel was extremely muted. I expected it to be a strong flavor, possibly overpowering the "everything" but instead it just sort of nudged the bagel closer to a truly "everything" taste. The other two Floridians were extremely impressed with their bagels as well (one a blueberry, one a cinnamon raisin with peanut butter). Right after we finished, the three of us took turns logging on to AOL Instant Messenger and breaking up with Panera (don't judge us based on our chainstore bagels!).
My only regret about Bagel Pub is that I had but one meal to spend there. That and I missed the extremely discounted day old bagels they sell at night.
