Bagels On The Ave

“Anyone who doesn't know this must be new to the neighborhood because this is Olympus Bagels taken over by the old mans son and rebranded.”

“The bagels are soft and I like the cc. It's a pretty good alternative to Brooklyn bagel, especially if you don't feel like waiting in line and want something quick.”

“We just ordered from here for my coworker's birthday and WOW.”

  1. I've been here a few times to grab bagels.  Once I ordered take out sweet potato fries – they would have been awesome if they did not cover them with a lid, it was soggy by the time I got home.  When I had the fries dine-in, they were very crispy.

Their strawberry cream cheese is divine.

I come here at odd times, so I can't comment on the morning service.

  2. This place is decent if you want your bagel fast to go. I think because it was peck hours of the day but the staff was too busy to even make sure I paid before I got my food. That was a but sloppy to give me the food then forget to ask for payment or even give me a price. The menu is oddly placed. The bagel itself was decent but not amazing. But the size of the bagel was perfect. The place is kind of small so it gets crowded fast.

  3. Very clean inside and friendly men. One gave me a flower! I love when NYC bagels live up to their name and pile on the lox on their lox bagels and they do so here. A little heavy on the cream cheese, but cool air conditioning and sunny windows make this a delightful bagel stop.

  4. I was a giant advocate for Hot Bagels.  The re-opening as Bagels on the Ave peaked my interest.  The redone space is nice and bright.  But I kind of loved the feeling of the old place.  Ah, well.  Things change, Jo.  I went after they had been open for… two weeks, I think.

I tested out a plain bagel with plain cream cheese.  I hate to beat a dead topic, but Brooklyn Bagel is my favorite and similiar price wise.  However, BB is so far out of the way on 30th Ave for me to get to the N/Q.  Bagels on the Ave's conveience trumps the BB.  I'll definitley be back to test out the more creative options.

The help was very friendly, and I wish this place great success!

  5. Our company just moved our offices to LIC and we have yet to find a new breakfast spot. We just ordered from here for my coworker's birthday and WOW. First of all, the bagels arrived super warm, like fresh-out-of-the-oven warm. The spreads were delicious! Scallion cream cheese? Yes, please! The guy over the phone said it would take no longer than 20 minutes and he did not disappoint! All of us here at the office are raving about these fluffy yummy bagels and we're so happy to finally find a new place to order breakfast from. Thanks Bagels On The Ave! You just earned yourself about 15 new customers! Can't wait to try other stuff!

    * Also, I noticed that other people had issues with delivery. This was not an issue at all for us. I got their number off of GrubHub and called them directly. I find that ordering from ANYWHERE online delays delivery time. Just a thought for others!

  6. In December of 2013 I moved from Broadway over to 30th Avenue, which meant my go to bagel place (Lots O'Bagels) was out of the way for a quick "grab a bagel on the way to the subway" stop. I have Brooklyn Bagels down the street in the opposite direction of the subway, but the long lines and the fact that they charge you extra for every. little. thing. had me hoping that this re-opening would be everything I wanted and more. Finally the day of the opening and…ugh, lackluster at best. Both my fiancee (Margot G.) and I tried it on different days after it opened, and the bagels are no better than the kind I could find in the Key Foods down the street.

FOOD: I ordered a whole wheat bagel with butter (my signature breakfast), and the bagel I ended up with was small, lackluster, and didn't even taste that fresh. Either they left these puppies out overnight or they managed to eliminate the wonderfully NY fresh taste from the bagel the same morning that it was made. My fiancee reports being similarly underwhelmed.

PRICES: okay, for a small bagel, I expect the prices to be adjusted accordingly. Nope. I paid $1.50 for this bagel. Over at Lots O'Bagels I paid $1.35 for the exact same bagel except it was much larger, often warm, and delicious. Hells to the no.

SERVICE: this was alright. I came in and was promptly asked what I wanted. There wasn't a long turn around from the time I ordered to the time I got my less than subpar bagel, so at least they've got that going for them.

So. Disappointed. I wanted this place to be good. Ask the people over at Lots O'Bagels…I was in there every day with my $1.35 in exchange for my favorite breakfast. Now? I may have a bagel once every two weeks from Brooklyn Bagels down the street. I haven't been back since and judging from the other reviews, they haven't really improved since their opening.

  7. Since we were kind of in a hurry and Brooklyn Bagels had a line going out the door yesterday morning, the boyfriend and I crossed the street and grabbed some breakfast here instead. $9 for lox, tomato, and scallion cream cheese? A little steep. Otherwise, it was nothing more than alright. Glad that they don't over-salt their everything bagels, though.

  8. good NY bagels, nice people. Lunch sandwiches are great too
