  1. Very weird place. Obviously I went here at 1am on New Year's Eve, but I think what was going on at that time would be very similar to what is going on every other time of the day. Long lines, odd, angry people working, food looking subpar, and an overall sloppy sandwich.

One of the "gentlemen" behind the counter looked like he just dropped some acid as he's making bagel sandwiches. Not only was he wide-eyed and throwing around directions to the other employees, he was taking little bites of the leftovers after he made orders, then he would drop his hand directly into the tomatoes and lettuce. The other guys were just overall angry and not happy with what was occurring.

Even if none of this occurred, the bagel sandwich wasn't very good. Pass on this place.

  2. Seems like all the bad reviews are service related. From a bagel perspective i think they have one of the best in town.  I think their bagels are better than hoboken hot bagels down the street.

I do agree they have a terrible ordering/paying system. It seems like a free for all but i have always enjoyed the product.

  3. After this place becoming a regular stop, I think another star added to my previous review is necessary because their breakfast sandwiches are by far their secret weapon. A major downside here is how often the bagels aren't as fresh as they could be, but a nice hot egg with taylor ham and cheese freshens them up just fine. 24 hours has been a total godsend convenience more than once since my last review.

  4. Despite the 3 star average (with lots of bad reviews), I wanted to give these guys a shot, so I did what will come to be known as the Great Hoboken Bagel Showdown of 2015. I went to Hoboken Hot Bagel (my usual bagel place) and got my gold standard by which all bagels are compared — an everything bagel (NOT toasted! very important!) with cream cheese (actually I like veggie cream cheese for the psychological effect of not consuming something entirely unhealthy but for comparison purposes, I stick to the regular cream cheese). I walked up the block to Bagels on the Hudson and got the same.

To the non-bagel connoisseur, you might not be able to tell much of a difference between the two bagels. If you go early in the morning, the bagels will likely have just come out of the oven so they're nice and warm (but NOT toasted!) and probably moist and not dry like cheap store-bought bagels. Isn't that good enough?

If you're going to ruin your bagel by toasting it anyways or put a whole lot of crap in between the bagel to make it a sandwich… then no. Go ahead and do whatever the hell you want with your bagel.

But if you actually care about bagels, then Hoboken Hot Bagels clearly makes the best bagels in town. Why? Hoboken Hot Bagels gets the texture of the bagel right. It's just the right level of chewiness. The bagels from Bagels on the Hudson are too soft and lifeless.

I'm not really sure why this place always seems to be busy when I walk by. Hoboken Hot Bagels is literally two blocks away. Maybe Hoboken Hot Bagels doesn't have the variety of bagel sandwiches and other non-bagel foods that this place does… but if you're not going for the bagels, why go here at all?

I'll still give these guys a 3 because just the fact that they're made fresh in-store is worth something. It's about the same as JP's Bagels and better than Bagel Smashery (which is a travesty all in its own for its gimmicky bagel smashing. Blasphemy!) Better than getting stale bagels from the grocery, Starbucks, some other local cafe/restaurant or elsewhere.

  5. I'm shocked at the low overall rating that Bagels on the Hudson gets because the bagels are very very good, especially if you're lucky enough to grab them straight out of the oven.  When guests stay over, we try to run out the next morning and bring them bagels from here.  Plus, the strawberry cream cheese is delicious.  I think most people are upset at the service – most of the employees are not very friendly and don't seem to be trained well.  Even the amount of spread they give you will vary on luck, and I've also been charged different prices by different people.  Nevertheless, they seem to be doing good business as the bagels keep people coming back, myself included!

  6. Got a late night roast beef sandwich on rye Saturday night and it turned out pretty well. They have a full deli and the woman behind the counter got me exactly what I needed. Not sure about the bagels, but the sandwiches are pretty good.

  7. I love gooey, soft bagels with cream cheese and bacon in the morning when I've had too much to drink the night before. I don't know how this place only has 2 stars. They do take a little longer to delivery but I do live in Jersey City and it is always hot when I get it.
Bagels are fresh and they have a lot of varieties and will pretty much do anything with your bagel or roll or whatever you get. The location is also convenient because you don"t have to fight for parking most of the time.

I'll be coming here until I move…far, far away.

  8. The bagels are Delish! They're huge and flavorful!

I ordered the everything bagel (wheat and toasted) with turkey bacon and egg white – the sandwich was so hearty. I gave them a four because the meal was out of this world and because I've been to shitty bagel places that skimp out on everything but this place did not disappoint.

I went in to order so I can't speak to delivery; however, in store ordering was pretty quick. My sandwich was ready in under 10 mins.
