  1. One of the best bagel shops on the Upper East Side. Interesting flavors and excellent selection of vegan tofu cream cheese options-plain, scallion, veggie, olive pimento, and sundried tomato. The bagels are on the smaller side, but have the perfect texture. Chewy on the outside, soft on the inside.

My spinach bagel was excellent-flavorful and fresh, with a generous spread of tofu cream cheese. Service was very fast and polite. Only $3 for this delicious breakfast. This store is tiny and has no seating, so you will need to take your order to go. $5 minimum for credit cards.

  2. Delicious lox bagel sandwiches! Glad it's in the neighborhood since I'll most certainly be back!

  3. Looking for hot fresh bagels? If so you found you're spot!

The best time to get them are in the morning, personally I get there a little before 10am at that point the man is working on making them fresh in front of your eyes. I'm pretty sure it's the second batch considering a lot of them are already made! Whenever I go in I always ask what just came out, or what's coming out. Try not to settle for the bagels behind the glass in the front ask for the fresh ones that just came out to the right side of the oven. They are absolutely amazing and still hot sometimes!

The staff here is very nice, funny, and animated. They have two benches to sit outside! Bagel with cream cheese is $2.50 and it's so worth it!

Great quality. Great bagels. I'm definitely becoming a regular here!

  4. Line out the door: worth the wait for egg and cheese on everything! Loved the freshness- awesome!

  5. An excellent bagel shop that's right around the corner from my apartment? Say it ain't so, Joe. I'm nearly always intimidated by the enormous lines that sprout every Saturday and Sunday from Bagelworks, and, because of how poofy and cream cheese-stuffed they generally are, bagels are a luxury for me. Otherwise, I would eat them everyday.

Despite the blueberry and chocolate chip muffins screaming "EAT ME EAT ME" from the window, we stuck with savory bagels – cream cheese and lox, and whitefish salad on toasted The Works bagels. The whitefish salad was pretty incredible, rivaling Ess-A-Bagel's.

If you're going to ask for your bagel toasted, especially the everything bagel, just keep in mind that Bagelworks tends to go hard on toasting. The burnt garlic bits were a little distracting, as they overpowered everything else on the bagel with their pungency.

Men behind the counter are very friendly, and allow samples.

NEXT TIME: bran muffins (I don't even like bran); more of the whitefish salad

  6. Local and you watch them as they consistently keep throwing bagels in the oven. Jalapeño cream cheese was spicier than most Iv has but a little heat at 9 am never hurt no body!

  7. My only explanation for why there are such long lines out the door for this place is lack of competition, because nothing about this place is that great.

Just got a plain lox bagel with low fat veggie cream cheese to go. They gave me low fat regular cream cheese instead of veggie, which wasn't the worst thing in the world, but a bit disappointing since I waited about 20-25 minutes for it, most of which was spent outside in the cold. The bagel was toasted for too long, so it was way too hard, unfortunately. I also tried the cucumber dill cream cheese on a garlic bagel though, which tasted significantly better (still was toasted too long so too hard, but the flavors were super good). Honestly, not a bad bagel place overall but definitely not worth all the hype.

Heads up – this place is purely a to go place. No seating inside (it's usually super crowded inside so can't even stand and eat inside).

  8. I needed a quick bite to eat before heading to a meeting. Who can say no to a good old bagel with lox? I wish I had. There's no where to sit inside and the bagels are extremely expensive for what you actually get. I ordered an everything bagel toasted with lox and onion. It came only with a huge slab of cream cheese, a tiny slice of lox and no onion. I attempted to maneuver my way around this bagel while walking along first ave but it was impossible, I couldn't even eat it.

Save your money and go elsewhere!
