I come here for $1 tacos on Taco Tuesdays. The place is always packed during lunch. Their green sauce tastes carbonated-not sure what's going on there. I have no complaints at this location except you can't get baja dos manos with the buy one get one free coupon like I can at other baja fresh's.
The first time I ever tried a Baja Fresh was in San Jose, CA about two years ago and I thought the fish tacos were off the charts. Now, you have to understand-being from Jersey I wasn't used to this type of freshness in my fast food places. The grilled and fried fish was flaky and delicious, the salsas were fresh and tasty with a nice spicyness (is that a word?), the place was spotless and the service was fast, friendly and helpful.
This location…just not the same. First off, waiting way too long for my order when the place wasn't really busy was the first sign something was amiss. The fish tacos here just aren't as good as I had in Cali-not even close. Smaller portions of fish, way too much cabbage, shell seemed dried out, and the fish just wasn't seasoned properly. I've tried this location a number of times because I really WANT it to be good, but they just haven't hit the nail on the head. I'll probably try again, because there are no other locations near me…
I've been a fan of the chain. In fairness I've only visited this location the one time.
Pro
* Burrito tasted good – Steak and shrimp, promotional burrito was tasty!
* Reasonably clean
M'eh
* All of the large cups were dirty – they were down to their display cups from the shelf. Cashier was checking each one, and blowing into them to clear of debris … I guess. Or maybe it was for good luck. I dunno. She was cute and all, but that was gross.
* My burrito, while tasty, fell apart while eating. Not a terrible thing, but it was not well wrapped.
* Tortilla chips were a bit past their prime … not terrible, but not fresh.
The "M'eh" items may very well be 'transitory' … i.e. a different day produces a different result. Fortunately, the primary food is still tasty.
Not sure what happened to this place. I used to like eating here but the last time I came here, the steak in my enchilada was cold and was not diced enough (it was more like strips). Food just did not taste fresh at all. It used to be worth the wait and now its not.
The service here has always been slow here (it was worth the wait back then) but during my my most recent visit, I couldn't understand why it was so slow. This location was completely empty when I came on a Monday night but it still took 15 minutes to get my food! At a fast food joint.. really? If it's going to take that long, I expect my meat to be warm at the very least. I can't imagine what the wait would be like if it was packed.
Maybe Baja Fresh is just going downhill overall since this is the only location that I know of that still exists. All the other locations I know of have closed down. Not a fan anymore. I'll just go to Chipotle on Rt. 10 next time.
This one star is not out of malice. It was just a pretty miserable experience. I had three different fish tacos, chips, rice, and beans. I can't pick even pick one thing and say, "Well, that was okay." The fish:tortilla:filings ratio on the tacos were all screwed up. The salsas were weird. The beans were gross. And the rice was sparse. Also, it looks like the owner has installed some energy saving lightbulbs in the main dining area. I think it's great that you want to save energy, but they are casting a horrendous florescent light on your restaurant. Kinda depressing. Baja Fresh, you need a rebranding, you're 10 years in the past.
Probably won't ever go back to Baja Fresh. Came here to try it out after wanting to for a while. I got a basic burrito, and while it tasted good at the time, left me hurting after…
I should also say I have a very strong stomach, and never suffer from indigestion/acid reflux/upset stomach from eating food. Baja managed to do that to me, and it wasn't good for the hours after. I've never written a review where I've mentioned any harmful effects from food after dining, but Baja opened THAT door right up!
Oh yeah — staff was nice, and prices are good.
Clean and decently quick when they're not before the noon rush, they produce a pretty decent burrito. Try the baja or the enchilado style (it's cheese & salsa w/ a side of sour cream & pico de gallo).
Extra salsas to the side, but they don't really give big containers for it… had to fill up the little 2 oz cups. Which for a big order over ten people, I'd think they'd give me more than those cups.
Clean and some seating. Not a bad place for a meal.
I give the Baja Five Stars primarily for superb customer service and I loved my meal…. I walked into Baja for the first time as a chain yesterday with my colleague… and I was as picky as ever…. the manager/cashier took his time with me all the way – he did not roll his eyes, he was not annoyed, her was not impatient, and he definitely did not rush me….
Afterwards – when my buzzer went off – he specifically said to me "Please check the salad to make sure that is what you wanted." Now that was a very nice gesture…. then he added, "please check because I want to make sure that you are happy."
See that is what I am talking about when it comes to customer service – making sure that the customer is happy.
I have to say that my salad was very good – and the buffalo sauce dressing was DELICIOUS!
Happy eating!
