These bakeries always look so nice because of how clean and well-lit they are. The vibrant colors of the various cupcakes against the bright white theme of the bakeries make the cupcakes look extra appealing. These bakeries are all over the city. It might be part of their marketing plan – The more you see something, the more you're enticed to buy … or at least that's how I became attracted to these miniature desserts. Plus I like the story behind how Baked by Melissa started.
However, the cupcakes I tried didn't quite win me over. Firstly, I'm not too fond of mini cupcakes because I find there is usually quite a bit of frosting relative to the cake portion.
Still I was curious to try.
We chose Chocolate Graham, Red Velvet, Chocolate Chip Pancake. The Chocolate Graham was topped with a miniature macaron. They tasted okay, almost too sweet. I appreciate how the packaging includes cupcake holders to protect your treats.
I can see how these would easily be addictive. Each tiny cupcake takes less than a second to pop in your mouth and swallow. But I think the point of a bite sized dessert is meant to allow people the opportunity to taste without overindulging in calories. I think it's a great concept with a high profit margin. They have a ton of flavors to choose from and they always have seasonal flavors.
These prices are high enough to prevent me from overindulging.
They are $1 each, $3 for 3, $6 for $5.50 and so on. $1 is not a bad price to try out a bite of something, but does seem rather pricey for an everyday treat.
Now that I've satisfied my curiosity, I think I'd rather put that $1 towards a regular-sized cupcake or some other dessert.
Got a platter of delicious cupcake bites from a lovely coworker for my birthday! Despite my general indifference to cupcakes, Baked really impressed me from concept to execution. The tiny, bite-sized portions are perfectly made to encompass all of the flavors of a moist, delicious cupcake without the commitment. You get all the flavors of the frosting, filling, and cake in a perfect ratio, since it all comes in one (or two, for those with tiny mouths!) bite(s).
Yum yum in my tum. The Mint Cookie was my absolute favorite (reminiscent of an Andes mint), with the Dulce de Leche as a close second. Very surprising, given that I usually despise rich flavors as I easily get overwhelmed. These bites are the perfect solution! A wonderful birthday treat!
What is it about a "mini" cupcake that says "why come on in…"? We were walking by and noticed the cupcakes but mini you say… don't mind if I do. Quickly stepped in and selected six of what I felt would be the best to try. The mini of the month – winter storm – was a sweet treat topped with a marshmallow. Red velvet was hitting hard, as always, with its distinctive taste. All flavors were good in their own right… No one tasted similar to another. Have to say it was good but not overly so. Great theme with the small bites so you are able to try more flavors without feeling guilty. Love the gluten free kitchen right next door for my gluten intolerant friends. The staff was young and distracted… Didn't seem very into the product or providing any sort of customer service. All in all "ehhh"… It's got nothing on Sprinkles. I'd give it one shaky thumbs up…
I saw this place a few times while walking around the area. Today I was in no rush so I walked in and purchased some of there mini cupcakes.
Each mini cupcakes was priced at a $1.00. I tried the tie dye, red velvet and snicker doodle flavors. Personally I think they were good but nothing special in my opinion.
I guess with a bite-sized cupcake comes a bite-sized store front.
What a great store or should I say concept Baked by Melissa has. The store is nothing fancy- just very bright and contemporary with the menu of cupcakes displayed on the flatscreen TV's. To the right- showcase of all the varieties of the bite sized decadence… To the left is the counter where I was greeted with a smile!
If you've never had a cupcake the was Baked by Melissa- you don't know what you're missing. Though they are very small- don't underestimate them…they are packed full of flavor. Always moist, delicious & fresh. Very true to their flavor description. Well worth the $1 each!
Since I was bringing them over a relatives house- I opted for the variety pack. 25 cupcakes , offering each cupcake item. Great way to go.
Right next door is Baked by Melissa Gluten free. Just make sure you're going into the correct store.
Keep up the great work Melissa!
I actually loved their mini cupcakes when I first tried them a few years back, I never even liked cupcakes, but the minis would do since they are all a bite each. My boss treated me the current flavor, I love caramel and I love apple pie, the combination was not great but I would get another. I haven't been back for at least a year, the cookie dough and chocolate chip taste exactly the same, flashbacks, woot! I may or may not come back again though, just cause the hype over cupcakes has died down on me.
Been wanting to try these cupcakes for a while and was super excited when I saw that they came in a gluten free version!
I got a box of 12 for about $10. Flavors were interesting and my favorite was the caramel one but overall – not what I expected.
The cupcakes were moist and too sweet for my taste. After eating two I was ready to swear off sugar. The flavor combinations were interesting but just not my thing. I don't have much of a sweet tooth and like my pastries fluffy not moist.
The store is super cute and it's defiantly a neat concept but not a good march for my cup of tea.
I was a little apprehensive about trying out the place because I thought it was all hype and the cupcakes were so tiny but these small bites were pretty amazing and full of flavor! I had the cookie dough cupcake and it was amazing. I'll definitely be back to try other flavors the next time I'm in the city!
