Since Ive tried several of the Afghan restaurants in the area I am fairly knowledgeable about what each of them have to offer. This Bahktar serves a larger portion of chicken that the other one located on Fresh Meadow Lane and but the flavor is better at the other Bahktar however Aria Kebab's flavor is even more intense than both of these. Aria's is also 50 cents less for the same chicken tikka meal and their container of salad is larger and fresher. The rice is pretty much the same at all of these places but thats not what really makes the meal. This Bahktar has the tangiest white sauce of all. They probably add extra vinegar. They also sell their white sauce in larger containers. Small is 2$ and large is $4.
The owner is very helpful and nice. The dishes were a little pricey for the area. The bread is not as good as other places and the lamb is not as tender even though it was a suggestion from them.
This place certainly hits the spot if you're looking for a chicken and rice with white sauce craving. Their menu is pretty extensive, so you can also get anything from hamburgers to gyros too.
We ordered take out on Friday night. We got the number 12 – 3 skewers of chicken kufta over rice, with salad and bread, and a Chicken Gyro on pita for just under $12. Not bad! Both were delicious. The chicken is tender and flavorful. The gyro is packed with meat, which is nice, but I would've liked for there to be a bit more lettuce? haha 🙂 A nice even distribution at least!
We would definitely return and try their other menu offerings.
Woo…what a nice surprise. The wife wanted to hit Kabul Kabab on Main Street today for lunch but when we got there, we found out that they were closed for renovation. Worked out great for us. Food here was great although it was sort of no frills. If you want fancy, this probably isn't the place for you. If you want good halal at a really great price, come here.
Beef kebabs were really flavorful. Rice was nicely cooked and seasoned. White yogurt sauce was spot on, just the right tang. Wife had chicken kabob and chicken tikka kabob, both of which were juicy and not dry. Sour cherry nectar to wash it down worked well. All this goodness for under 20 bucks. Will definitely come back.
Tip – Not to be confused with Bakhter Halal Kabab on Fresh Meadows Lane. Owners are different although names are similar. Owner confirmed this and immediately asked me if I had eaten at "that other place" before. Sounds like they have a healthy kebab rivalry going on.
