I attended a wedding here and must say, the food is excellent. The chalahach is delicious and the space is beautiful!
I enjoyed every dish from the Lamb Chops to the Duck Liver and Poached Pear .. Everything was cooked to perfection…. The service was excellent and the place is beautiful !!!!
Happy birthday Bella and Zoey !!
This place is huge. They have their first floor for their "regular" dinners, second floor which has a huge ballroom type room which has a dance floor as well as stage. Also on the second floor is a smaller room that seats around 40-50 people that has a great view of the sheepshead bay dock. Food is really good but pricey. I had the kabobs which was juicy and flavorful.
I would definitely give Baku 5 stars for their service. The waitstaff was very attentive to our 8 person party, whether it was keeping our drinks full, plates clean and needs addressed.
I will be back in July for a large party my wife and I will be hosting.
this place is gorgeous it really does look like a palace
however everytime I drive by, I see a bunch of loud drunks smoking, I even saw an old man pass out on the street because he was wasted, so not a good look for baku
however the food is great, with enormous portions, I love the kebabs and the fresh salads, lots of cold cuts and breads, and excellent service, the waiters will always serve you and open any bottles you bring in, they will wrap up any food you want to take home
the music isn't bad, for Russians they will play any oldies you want
but for americans I don't think they play a good variety of music to accomdarte cusrtomers who aren't Russian so that's not fair, but I guess when you are tipsy any thing sounds good
over all I would love to come back here,im a big fan of the fresh sushi they started serving , in the summer its so nice to sit out on the balcony top floor overlooking the bay
Note to myself: always ask which hall your friend's party at. With 2 different levels and several dining halls of Baku, I crashed 4 birthday parties before I found my friends. (Thankfully, Russian folks are super-friendly, and I was invited to sit and eat and drink to each of other parties! "Our table is on the left, dear, come, eat, eat!". Well, the humor of the phrase is lost in translation, but those of you who are from motherland, imagine it said with good Georgian accent)
Baku is a typical Russian catering hall, a bit old, but pretty good as far as food and entertainment goes.
If you been to Russian parties, you know it is usually long communal table with dishes and drinks that are a plenty and meant to be shared. You eat a little bit – no, I lie, you eat a lot! – of everything. And drink a whole lot, with toasts.
I was surprised to see sushi on the table, since I don't associate Baku with Japanese cuisine, but it was fresh and delicious, so it was a good twist.
Of course, there were the usual staples – caviar, boiled tongue, head cheese, various cold meats and salads, all of which were good; followed by excellent potatoes with wild mushrooms and wonderful Chilean sea bass. Everything was fresh and cooked well, and waiter came around often to help with dishes or refill drinks. Of course, there were plenty of drinks for every taste – from homemade wine (OMG) to vodka (of course) to good cognac (Mmmm!).
Live music started at 9pm, and at that point you can forget about talking – it is loud! – and just go and dance your heart out. Sax players, several live singers with backup dancers, disco ball, dance floor for everyone! – yea, definitely good times!
It was awesome to catch up with old friends and enjoy the party. Absolutely crazy fun!
Till next year, Baku, ciao!
Hauled my culo grande out to Sheepsead Bay for my friend Marik's birthday party. As I have not been to this kind of over the top Russian/Turkish restaurant before, I did not know what to expect.
This place is way out of my league- looking like a tacky, catering hall upstairs where I meandered into a Luftansa party by mistake. Marik's party was in the more subdued restauant downstairs.
The FOOD here is nothing short of amazing, and once it starts it just keeps being served. Salmon, pickled veggies(yum), potatoes and mushrooms, eggplant dip, Turkish bread, sheepard's salad, some pancakes with meat or spinach and that is just to name a few of the appetizers. The VODKA was flowing, but I stuck to the house wine.
When the mains came- salmon, grilled shrimp and grilled Chilean sea bass…..I was pretty stuffed, but holding out for the meat. The grilled lamb cut into tiny pieces on the bone was delish and went well with the eggpplant and pickled tomatoes- popular in Russian cuisine.
For dessert- tea in a glass with cherry preserves meant to be dropped in the tea and a lovely tiramisu. A singer belted out some borscht belt tunes some I have not heard since the last Jewish wedding I attended.
The sturgeon kebab!!! The most delicious thing in the world!!!!!
