  1. My husband and I came here looking to try something new.  We had the shrimp shumai, which was delicious, as an appetizer.  I ordered the tempura soba and was impressed by the presentation, however the broth was very plain.  I added the tempura sauce to the broth and it helped.  My husband had the chicken pad Thai and he said it was average.  Overall the place was clean and had a modern decor.  Very empty for a Sunday at dinnertime though.  Maybe if we are in the area again well stop in.

  2. Let me first start by saying that as a Montclair native for 21 years, this place had one HELL of a nerve setting up shop directly across from Dai Kichi (a REAL Japanese restaurant, none of this "Asian fusion" BS) after Dai Kichi has been there for so many years. It was just a move in complete bad taste, but the good news is that I don't see many people in here at all. It's never been full up and packed like Dai Kichi has. Anyways, I came in for dinner last night because everywhere else was closing or had closed their kitchens and this place was the only place open. I had been curious to try it despite their gravely mistaken presumption that they could come close to competing with Dai Kichi. I ordered one of the bento boxes and it was very good. But not as good as Dai Kichi across the street. I'm sorry, but I've been living in this town too long to say otherwise. Sushi was great here at Bamboo. But not nearly as good as being brought to heaven and back by the freshness of Dai Kichi's rolls. Service was okay, but not great. Took forever for them to get me the check at the end. The one thing I will give them credit for was the nice sappy and cheesy Asian piano music playing on the radio or whatever.

  3. Great spot when you can't decide if you want Chinese, Japanese, or Thai. The Sichuan specialties are great crispy cuts of meat with an awesome combinations of salt and spice. The sushi looks good and the menu has a ton of variety. Prices are a little higher but portions are large and the quality is definitely there. Skip the chicken and broccoli and order something authentic!

  4. So I went here yesterday with some friends for lunch because we wanted to be hip and get sushi so people will think we're trendy. We got here and I jump right into the Lunch Special section since I'm a poor college kid and "discount"is my favorite word.

The place had a chic Asian atmosphere, like I was in a Japanese CEO's private dinning room. I got the Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura Bento Box and it was pretty good! It came with Miso soup that warms you right up. The Shumai was my favorite part, although I prefer it steamed but that's just me. The Sushi was good. That's it. The Tempura? Oh my God. Now that was GOOD. I always loved Tempura so if a place can do it right, then it's riiiight.

My only complaint would be the service was a tad slow but they were friendly regardless which did make up for it. I do suggest this place though.

  5. Food is not bad, I had rolls, did not try the szechuanese dishes, did not appeal to me, otherwise nothing out of the ordinary. The service is  excellent and  servers were  prompt and friendly and no waiting for the food..
