  1. The sticky rice is semi sweet. We got the mango and the tofu. The mango one was my favorite of the two. It paired better with the sweet sticky rice. The tofu was more savory but I think next time I would just go for the meat with the sticky rice. Prices are $9 for one but they do pack a lot of rice into one. Overall, a nice and different treat.

  2. As a sucker for cute packaging, I was sold on Bamboo Bites when I saw the food was served in a bamboo boat. They have sweet and savory items priced at $9. The pork one was pretty good, it came with a lot of toppings which made it very flavorful. Their dishes remind me of Chinese sweet tamales aka joong. The flavor is more thai based, think peppers and peanuts.

I'd go for the savory items because it's more of a meal, I found it strange that the sweet ones are the same price as the savory ones when it's less toppings?

  3. For those of you who can't make it to Smorgasburg, Bamboo Bites offers catering on their website as well.

I tried the chicken satay and tofu satay over coconut sticky rice. Usually I associate sticky rice with sweets, but it was really interesting having it with savory toppings. The chicken satay was just as another yelper said, "flavor explosion." It's flavors were reminiscent of Thai and Malaysian cuisine: a bit spicy with peanut undertones. It would have been overwhelming to eat alone, so that's why they give you coconut sticky rice as well. In contrast, the tofu satay was really not flavorful at all, but that's tofu, right? It's good when dipped into the peanut sauce. The sticky rice didn't really have a coconut or sweet flavor to it. I wouldn't have minded if it were sweeter.

The catering order came with: salad & ginger dressing, coconut sticky rice, chicken & tofu satay, and the toppings (crushed peanuts, cucumber relish, and peanut sauce).

Overall I thought this meal was good, and it would be worthwhile checking out at Smorgasburg. However, if you're not as Smorgasburg and want takeout, there are probably other restaurants with more variety.

  4. I saw the cute boat the foods were served in and decided to get the chicken satay. It was good. I like the coconut sticky rice w the chicken. The peanut sauce was just right. Would come back to try the other dishes.

  5. I enjoyed this spot – I got the Chicken Satay, a nice and flavorful meal of chicken with a rich peanut sauce topping a nice bed of slightly sweet coconut sticky rice.  I really enjoyed the balance of the savory, sweet and sour throughout the entire dish.

This is one of the more unique offerings at Smorgasburg and I recommend it.
