Bamboo Ya

“They have a pretty decent happy hour from 4-7 which included some food specials too, I believe.”

“Fish has always been fresh but I have to say the only reason they don't get a 5 stars is because no one can beat Chikurin in Brooklyn.”

“I did minus a star for the salty tuna roll in hopes that they will change the tuna roll and make it less salty.”

  1. I have been wanting to try this spot for a lunch and took my mom here because of the lunch specials. I'm sold on the lunch specials because it comes with a great amount of food. We sat down in the main dining area in the back. Ordered the chicken teriyaki and udon soup with vegetable tempura. Both come with choice of soup or salad. Both soup and salad are the standard. Nothing to wow your socks off.

The chicken teriyaki was just okay. I've actually had better at the food courts. This dish comes with a lot of vegetables underneath the chicken so that was nice. The udon noodle soup is typical and comes with a nice broth. I would say forgo the vegetable tempura. It was 90 percent batter and 10 percent vegetable that was slightly hard. Just not fun to eat.

It's not a bad place…good prices for lunch specials but it's just OK.

  2. The sushi at this place is fresh and great quality. Each bite of raw fish is consistent with the last and the next.  That means they're definitely doing something right.

I hate it when I go to a sushi place and you order something and its either too small or well nobody complains about too much usually. But I think its very important to have consistency in the thickness, freshness, coldness, and texture of your sashimi.  I just love salmon, so I can't really speak for the other types of fish, but their salmon is extremely good and each bite, whether it was a month ago or a next month, the taste is always the same.  I love that.

The prices are very reasonable, for the regular rolls, most of them are $3 a roll and for sashimi, its $1.20 a piece.  The appetizers are really good as well.

I like the decor of place, very new and trendy.  They also have some booths, where you take off your shoes and sit in.  Really gives you that Japanese feel.  A great place to hangout with friends, or for a date.  Great food and service for a good price.  I will definitely be back.

  3. This place is cute. The bar in the front always has a group of people around it and the bartenders are great.

They have an area with low tables where you take off your shoes to eat. Maybe one day I'll sit there… When I did go, me and my friends sat at the regular tables in the back. Our service was pretty good besides the point when the waitress's hair went into my friend's green tea when she was serving it.

The food is really good. Tastes fresh. Love coming here for both lunch and dinner.

  4. Comfy sushi spot. Been here numerous times. Food is always fresh. Sushi is well prepared and prices are reasonable.  I would definitely order some of the special rolls on the back of menu.. all of them contain avocado and salmon, two of my personal favorites.

Wifey loves this place… and its right by the crib. Nothing beats convenience.

  5. We came to Bamboo Ya for lunch after sloshing through slush and traversing through mountains of snow from #smowmaggedon2016, but the tranquil restaurant inside immediately quieted us, as did the steaming cups of hot green tea that were proffered moments after we sat down. The inset tables were an attractive seating choice, but the unwelcome thought of having to yank off our dripping snow boots ushered us to a regular table instead.

We both sprung for the special lunch bento boxes, which sounded like a great deal – $8.75 for an entree, rice, a California roll, spring rolls or shumai, and a soup or salad. I got the tofu teriyaki bento box, which came with large cubes of lightly battered tofu that bore a strong resemblance to agedashi tofu, except these had warm teriyaki sauce spooned over the top and a bed of steamed broccoli below. I loved that the sauce wasn't too thick nor too sweet, which is a common complaint I have about most teriyaki sauces. The California rolls were standard and the spring rolls were just a shade subpar, with a thick skin that got slightly gummy on the inside but tasted a lot better after sweeping it through the sweet chili sauce it came with. Twenty minutes later, our bento boxes were empty and we were both making contented noises at our table. If all of that sounds like a lot of food (which it was), I would recommend that you spring for the regular lunch specials, which come with just the entree, rice, and soup or salad for a slightly lower price.

Dark furniture, clean lines, and cool light accents like the pendant lighting that hung over the tables lent Bamboo Ya a sleek and almost modern appeal. We were intrigued by the chalkboard listing of happy hour prices on our way out, especially when we noticed happy hour starts at 3 pm here (hurray for earlier weekend celebrations!). Will definitely be back!

  6. I liken this place very much. The shrimp tempura rolls are amazing. I recommend the Ginza rolls.

  7. I like the ambiance of this place and the seats. I read some of the other reviews but I think it might just be where they're seated. We always like sitting in the private tatami tables. The food is not bad but some of the noodle soups are bland (ie: roasted duck noodle soup). The sushi is not bad but could be fresher.

Also, their service is getting worse. There used to be a waiter (Steve, I think his name is and another woman I never got her name) and they were always friendly and got to know you and welcomed you back every time and also knew exactly what "extras" you would order (ie: spicy mayo, etc.). Now the waiters/waitresses don't seem to really care.

  8. Been here a handful of times now. Really like the decor. Very nicely done. Food here is pretty good. Staff is nice. I had the miso soup, garden salad, sushi and terrakyi. All very good no complaints.
