Bangkok Garden Thai Restaurant

“Anything I get here is so good, but my go to dishes are the tom yung goong soup with shrimp and the siam noodles with chicken.”

“We ordered Tom yum soup, volcano chicken, and drunken noodles which is something else on the menu- sorry I forgot the name but I said drunken noodles and she knew what I meant.”

“Maybe it's because they tailor the spice level to your liking (on a scale of 1-10, or no spice at all if you're a wimp :P).”

  1. Their Thai food is certainly solid.  Throughly enjoyed their pad see ew – perfect flavor, amount of greens, just wish their tofu didn't take so vinergary.  The paid Thai was also cooked and flavored perfectly.

Their shrimp in rice roll (similar to dim sum) however was terrible. The roll was thick and wasn't fresh.

    Efficient service.
    I wish they delivered!

  2. This place is very close to my office.

The food is good, like your typical Thai place. They let you order how spicy you want a dish on a scale of 1 (mild) to 10 (Spicy).

Lunch specials include soup, salad, or a spring roll. If you eat at the restaurant, they also include Jasmine tea.

My favorite dishes here are Pad Grapow, Siam Noodles, and Siamese Princess Chicken.

I feel the prices are high for what you get. They also charge extra for takeout.

  3. 4 Stars only because it smelled really bad in here & theres only 1 choice for the soup lunch special.

however, the shrimp pad thai lunch special for $10 is amazing. Large portion, perfect flavors, and fresh shrimp. They did not skimp on the shrimp either! i was stuck getting a salad, which i was bummed about at first…but the warm spicy ginger-peanut satay dressing was amazing. I made sure to lick up every drop. There is only one soup choice for lunch, which stinks since i was in the mood for soup but it was meat based. Dont bother bringing your own drinks, they have a full bar. *gasp*. yes and the prices are very reasonable. The princess fish lunch special looked very unappetizing, in fact it resembled baby food..or poop..but my friend said it was delicious and he would get it again!

    * as stated in the previous reviews, park in the back!

  4. Bangkok Garden always deliver a knockout blow to my Thai food cravings. They have a fairly large regular menu and some rotational specials as well.

I have tried many different items here and have never been disappointed. My person favorites would be the fried rice, red curry, and the shrimp pad Thai.

The only drawback is that the food preparation usually takes a bit longer than other places. They recently added two TVs that show all the pictures of the dishes, which makes me even more hungry when I'm waiting for my food… Not sure if this is intentional…

  5. Excellent Thai food, very authentic (I have been!) The place itself is pretty big, especially for a Thai restaurant and the menu is very extensive. It took us awhile to figure out what we wanted! They have a full bar, decent wine menu, and the traditional iced Thai teas. I love them, but be prepared for how sweet they are! (A lot of Thai food is either super sweet or crazy spice in my opinion). Anyway, I started with the Tom Kah Gai soup (warm coconut milk soup with chicken). Very tasty. If you've been to Thailand, you know they love their coconut milk!

My family ordered the papaya salad, which was exactly how it was when I was in Phuket. Excellent flavor combination. If you never had Thai food, be prepared for a little kick! The combination of hot chili pepper, palm sugar and fresh lime juice gives it a very unique flavor! .

For my main entree I ordered GANG PED YARNG (Roasted Duck in Red Curry Sauce). Delicious, but again if you never had Thai food, be prepared for total flavor overload (flavors you might have never had before). I didn't love the duck itself (fatty and very crispy), but the tofu that came with it along with the pineapples and the mix of vegetables was excellent. Everyone I was with loved their food too. No complaints.

Good service overall. It's hard to find a really good Thai place, especially one with a liquor license! I will be back!

  6. I've been to Bangkok Garden many times. It's praised as the best Thai restaurant in all of Bergen county. It's probably one of the nicer ones in Bergen County, that's for sure. It is clean and well lit, and the interior has been redone since my last visit. It is also slightly more expensive with smaller portion sizes.

I've had a number of appetizers, soups, salads, and curries here, but I usually get the pad kee mao (drunken noodles), which is listed as Siam Noodles on their menu. The real reason I prefer other Thai restaurants is because I find my favorite dish to be overly sweet. You can choose a spice level from 1 to 10, but I usually ask em to crank it up to 12 to compensate for the sweetness. Many of my friends prefer this place though, so I'm here somewhat regularly.

  7. I dont give out 5 stars often but when i do , it's because the place was able to serve me a dish that matched my outrageous spice level.

Ordered broad flat noodles and asked for it "EXTRA EXTRA Spicy." I was offered the option to choose a spice level of 1 to 10…"12 please"

It certainly did not disappoint. The noodles were very delicious. The spice level grows as you eat so while it may not seem like much on the first bite, your 10th bite should have you sweating. Order the Thai Iced Tea just in case you can't handle the heat. 🙂

  8. Nice place, quite crowded but large so it doesn't get super loud.

    Service was nice.

They have a pretty good Wine List (especially compared to the beer list.) Got a Gerwurst for 7.50 which I usually don't see at all on menus let alone Thai places. Anyway. Otherwise, they have free jasmine tea.

We started with Thai Fish Cakes/Tod Mun Pla and Curry Puffs.

Both were solid though I would say the tod mun pla were slightly better. It was a bit different, being served as 5 smaller pieces than a few larger ones.

I had the bbq beef which was served with what seemed like a chili infused fish sauce though it was hard to tell. The beef was pretty tender and the portion size was adequate.

The other person had the large portion of tom yam soup, more specifically or tom yam kai. She got medium.

The medium version of it was filled with mushrooms and spices. It was quite spicy. I found it to be fine but the other person found it a bit spicy. I think the portion, outside of the amount of chicken, was more enough for a large group of people (like in faux-chinese restaurants where four people get a large pot of egg drop soup.)

The food here is good though I do prefer the food at some other Thai places. I haven't been to the other Thai place on the block but I'll probably go pretty soon.
