  1. After hitting up the Brooklyn Museum since I'm moving away soon and still hadn't been even though I live within walking distance (way to take advantage of the area, right?), I hit up another place I've been meaning to go: Bar Corvo.  The sister restaurant to Al Di La in Park Slope, Bar Corvo doesn't get as much hype as the original.  The menu is similar, as is the atmosphere for the most part.  The place itself is bigger, with more seating options and a backyard area as well that must be great in the summertime.  Luckily it's much bigger though, since it is well known in this area as a legit dining option.  I was eating alone, so I just grabbed a seat at the bar where you walk in.  I didn't get bumped into much and also I got a great few of the kitchen up front, which was hilarious for reasons I won't go into (although I'll say that it's funny to see stuff explode in a chef's face).  Service was decent given how busy they were, but definitely very friendly.  Since I wasn't feeling well, I skip drinks but the cocktail and wine menus looked very good.

For an appetizer I got a scallops special.  While it was on the small size (only 2 medium-sized), this dish was incredible.  The scallops were seared perfectly which is an unfortunately rare feat.  Included with these were a variety of different mushrooms, including chantarelles, and a rich mushroom sauce.  The combination of earthiness and saltiness was addicting.  If I had know this would be this good, I might've ordered more than 1 of this as my entree.  Instead, I got the lasagna.  While the noodles were fresh and the bechemel was great, I found the meat and tomato sauce on the sparse side.  There wasn't much browning of cheese on the top but there was plenty along the sides.  The lasagna was still good, just not as good as it could be.  Normally I wouldn't have order this here, but it'd been awhile since I had lasagna–I wasn't allowed to have any of the lasagna I made for Christmas–so I went for it.  Next time I'll try the tagliatelle al ragu (I almost changed my order after seeing/smelling it).

I would definitely come back here, especially if there's a good entree special (there wasn't any available on this night).  Bar Corvo is more than just a worthy sequel to its sister restaurant; it's an evolution of it.  It's more homey with less hype and much more character to the layout, while keeping the food quality just as high.  That puts it in a pretty lofty position.  Consider this one worth the trip.

  2. Came here for brunch the past weekend and loved it. They have a great closed off backyard area that allows for "outside" eating during the winter. It was very sunny on Sunday so it was nice to eat under natural light for a change. ( I miss summer).
I had the eggs in purgatory and it was delicious! (A little over salted) but good non the less.
My fiancè had the Benedict and while I don't eat meat I did try some of the home made biscuit, which turned to me eating half of her biscuit, i thought it was very good!

The only negative remarks I could make is that we ordered a screw driver which was served with "fresh squeezed orange juice" but, I don't know if the juice was not that fresh or they were just bad oranges but it was a little tasteless and the potatoes with paprika were a bit of let down, as they weren't really seasoned that well.

Other than those two things it was a great brunch experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and I'll definitely be back!

  3. Romantic spot hidden away in prospect heights-3 minutes from park and museum. I love going in here on a late afternoon for a cocktail and a plate of their deviled eggs (best in NYC). It's always pretty quiet and the afternoon light is amazing. It feels like a spot you would find in Amsterdam but no it's in the heart of BK!

  4. It's been awhile.   Disappointed to see that the calamari salad is no longer in the menu.  It was delicious and I ordered it for years.  The waiter said it will be back.  Fingers crossed.
The waiter is attentive which is nice.

I am having the ricotta cavatelli.  Very good.

Overall this places services very good food.

  5. I had such a lovely brunch at Bar Corvo! My friend and I were so lucky to be seated right away around 1pm, and we even scored a prime table in the covered patio (which was perfect, since it was just a tad too chilly for the full outdoor area).

We started with mimosas, of course, and the fritters, which were out-of-this-world delicious! For my meal, I thoroughly enjoyed the tagliatelle ragu, but my friend found the burger a bit too spicy. Without even a word of complaint or request, the waitress removed the burger from our bill, which speaks volumes to the service here.

I can't wait to go back to try the macaroni and cheese next time!

  6. Having gone for Easter Brunch I have finally woken up from my food coma and I feel like I can give this restaurant the review it deserves!

I have a lot of love for this place, it was the first place I went to eat after moving here from CA last year, and I vividly remember ordering the Farro Salad.
    AH.
The Farro Salad. A brown buttery gift of a dish with the perfect amount of goat cheese that I often dream of, it is without a doubt in my top three favorite dishes. Ever. In the history of food!
Like if I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life this is a serious contender.

While it can serve as it's own dish but I also got the burger and fries (I over ate obviously hence the food coma) While the burger was really delicious it was a little too red for my taste, I had asked for it medium and it came out medium rare. Honestly I wanted it medium well but everyone always side eyes when I order it that way. Buncha meat bullies!!! Sooooo I tend to cave and go medium. It tasted wonderful, the main reason I don't rare with my burgers is because it's too juicy and messy and I hate that. So while I enjoyed my meal…it wasn't exactly what I had asked for.
The sides are good portions too!  We got the side of polenta (which was a wonderful herby quality) and a side of bacon. (REAL hot like it came straight from the kitchen to us.)

I also got a Red Snapper (Bloody Mary with Gin) which was wonderful! My sister ordered some grapefruit cocktail which she loved!
I will say my friend ordered a latte and they apparently don't have any soy, so just watch out for that.

Staff was friendly and attentive! By this point I've tried almost everything on the menu and neither I, nor anyone I've gone with, have ever had a bad meal. And thought it's a little on the pricier side, it's like seven hours later and I'm still full. Though wishing I had gotten a Farro Salad to go.

  7. Bar Corvo's sister restaurant Al Di La is my all-time favorite restaurant. That said, I was crazy excited when I found out the chef and owner Anna Klinger also owned Bar Corvo — and it met every lofty expectation.

This charming Crown Heights restaurant is more affordable than its Park Slope sister, but just as delicious. They have a few overlapping items — order the Swiss chard gnocchi… order it now — and some I hadn't seen like the octopus salad.

The octopus is perfectly cooked, and that is no easy feat. I can't wait to come back and try more!

  8. The farro salad is amazing! You must order. Also the fried spiced chick peas. So yummy!

This is my neighborhood spot – pricey and good for a night out. The service is always gracious and the cocktails are pretty nice as well.

I've yet to order something I didn't enjoy and the since the menu is adjusted seasonally, there's usually something new to experience.  But seriously, order the farro salad. The winter version is warm with squash and hazelnuts. So Good!
