Bar Matchless
“On NYE I met some friends at Enid's across the street and the DJ was terrible so we moved it over to Matchless.”
“So if you've only been on Tuesdays I encourage you to stop by on the weekends too if you're looking for a laid back place to end your night.”
“Huevos rancheros were the group favorite, and I also enjoyed the breakfast burrito.”

Just an absolute beacon for denim jacket scratchers in flat brim middle America high school Smithsville Panthers hats. I don't even fault Matchless for that, its just what the scene is in that area & they've been around a while now.
What I was never a fan of is how crowded & loud this place gets on weekends. I guess they have bands/DJs so if that's your deal have a ball 🙂 But personally ill pass on amateur hour as it's just not the most conducive place to hang/drink/converse in extreme decibel levels from a bar once featured on Girls filled up to the gills.
Already wrote a review for this and it somehow got deleted :(. So this is not going to be long. I came here for a friend's birthday and they were really nice and had reserved the back room for us. Unfortunately it felt a little out of the mix of the rest of the crowd but I guess that's what you get for a private party. Although it was crowded the bartenders worked fast and the drinks were cheap and pretty strong. Fun spot!
Man, how have I never reviewed matchless. This place is a list of pros and cons.
Pro – 2 for 1 happy hour
Con – Cash only and no tabs (seriously?)
Pro – Food
Con – Not really that good
Pro – Cool divey atmosphere with live music
Con – Always horribly understaffed and you wait 20m for drinks.
All in all it is a solid bar in a good location so I end up here frequently, althought it is far from my go-to.
Pretty solid bar. I was only here once, to see my boyfriend's band play a show. Drinks were a tiny bit pricey and they didn't seem to have many specials going on when we were there. The bar seemed understaffed and it took a while to get a drink or get a bartender's attention, but it was crowded, to be fair. Overall, it was an okay venue. I liked that there was seating on the sides and the bar was big enough to hang out in. They have this cool little outdoor area that had some heated lighting to make it bearable in the winter. Overall, an A-OK place to check out (as Yelp would say).
eh, I could take it or leave it. Kind of crowded. I didn't eat there, but the food looked good.
Went to Bar Matchless last night and it was so much fun! One of my friends who I just met told me about this kickball league (NYC Social) in Brooklyn so I decided to go.The kickball game was a lot of fun and then we headed down to Bar Matchless for a game of flip cup! All the teams compete one another and it was just a blast. This bar had a whole area reserved for the kickball people, you have to walk all the way to the door that was near the bathrooms. They had a bunch of tables out, people drinking, and mini bars on the sides, and music playing. I had a lot of fun here, I can't really say much about the other areas of the bar though.
Matchless is a decent bar that hits all the key points–lots of space, has food, and has decently priced drinks. The crowd always seems to be made up of groups of friends out for the night, but not a lot of mingling happens. This has been the last call bar for me on a few nights out in the area–the bar you go to before you go home and sleep it off. The sliders and the wings are good drunk food. I've never been for a show but that happens here too. On the weekends they have a DJ, so if you don't like loud bars sit this one out.
Pretty cool bar with a divey scene and a dark atmosphere. Good beers and the food looked tasty.
