God I loved this place – they had the best salmon with sauce ever. I've been making a mock of their recipe since! Absolutely great. However, beware of the "specials" I once said yes to a fish and they served us (two plates wide) a toasted fish for $80… Not cool and not my type of dish. The salmon however, makes up for it and I'll still give them a 5 star for it. Yummmmm
Came here this past Saturday for a rehearsal dinner so my review is mainly on the food. In total there were probably about 25 of us split among two large tables.
Appetizers
Bread & dip: this was probably my favorite appetizer to be honest. The bread was just okay, but that dip tasted like crack! Our guess was that it was made from sun dried tomatoes and olive oil, but who knows?
Calamari: this was soft and chewy and flavored just right with enough salt and pepper.
Meatballs in marinara sauce: this was my second favorite appetizer. The meatballs came out piping hot, which made every bite a pleasure.
Eggplant parmigiana: I'm not a huge eggplant person, so once I took one bite and realized what it was (I originally thought it was some kind of meat dish), I stopped eating.
Entrees
Veal ravioli: I thought this was a decent dish but overpriced (if I had been paying for it). There weren't that many pieces of the ravioli, but each piece felt very rich and buttery. I usually like veal dishes a lot, but this one fell flat for me a little bit.
Squid ink seafood pasta: My friend ordered this and I tried a bite. We both agreed it was very bland and tasteless and even the included seafood was overcooked.
Veal milanese: another girl at my table ordered this. I tried a piece and again, it was kind of bland and not what I expect from veal. However the portions for this were ginormous. I think this could have easily served two people with small to medium sized appetites.
There was an outside patio area that looked delightful to sit in had our group not been so large.
Picked this place randomly for a late dinner with a friend. We both ordered salads–I got the beet salad due to my recent obsession with beets. The bread and tomato olive oil dip were very good, as mentioned in other reviews. Will likely come back again when the weather is still nice and I can sit outside.
I don't think this place is known for it's food. Its not bad food.. Its just basic Italian that you can find in any other restaurant. This place is known more for their parties, namely on Sunday night. It's a very European party with people dancing on tables and chairs and bar tops. Yes, you do have a very fair share of euro-trash in there, but it really is a FUN party most of the time. The times it isn't fun is when the place is so packed that you can't walk through or order a drink at the bar. This place is a very TIGHT squeeze.
I would recommend this place for sure. Order some appetizers and enjoy the party, even if it is a bit wild. I find the prices to be a bit high, especially for the UES. A belvedere with club cost $15..yikes.
Came here just for dessert and wine. It was a beautiful night out and they had the heaters on so we could sit outside. The service was wonderful! Our server had great knowledge of the desserts and paired them very well with our palette for wines.
I am sure that the food is amazing. I saw a lot of dishes that looked divine being brought the tables around us.
There was also a man eating opposite his poodle that made for some cute pictures!
The wait for the bathroom was made extremely enjoyable with an over abundance of painting on the walls that kept me so busy I almost missed my turn.
I would definitely suggest this place
Wow! Sunday night party party! An out of world (upper east side world) experience! Dinner turned club type venue with a DJ, dancing dancing and even dancers.
I must have said 10 times I can't believe I'm upper east .
Was walking home after dinner and kind of accidentally stumbled upon the party hearing / seeing the energy activity from across the street. I had heard about dancing and something fun here Sunday nights but since this started later I never made it before this week.
I suggested we peek in but – you couldn't just peek without a drink and partaking in some fun, a little dancing to Latin music and incredible people watching here, for at least a little while .
People dancing everywhere, even a few on the tables. Scantily clad dancers – reminding me of something you would see at Mardis gras maybe -with giant feather adorned hats came out of the back with a birthday cake for someone then later were dancing among the patrons and as we left on the bar.
My Manhattan drink was made well.
Only complaint was one female bartender whose service and attitude were horrific. I get along with and talk to anyone and everyone and completely appreciate great service but am also very intolerant of really bad service/ attitude. I asked her a couple questions at different points -including what kind of music was playing and if the costumed women were hired for a bday party or by the restaurant; and each time she gave a two word snippy non answer like "they're hired" with attitude. The second or third time instead of asking her nicely to clarify I walked to the other end of the bar and asked the other (very friendly) bartender who answered my questions. When I casually mentioned his co workers attitude, the owner was by my side within seconds introducing herself. I said I was having a great time and didn't want to be negative but she probed, clearly wanting to make her customers happy– I shared my enthusiasm for the unique especially to Ues, party atmosphere, which she was very happy to hear, clearly passionate about her restaurant. And when I mentioned the bartenders' attitude she was sweet, apologetic, saying she would address it . Reiterating this is her restaurant and welcoming us there . She was great.
I would definitely go back on a Sunday night to show other friends the only club type spot upper east – and also for dinner to try their food!
Very intimate interior, great spot for a dinner date on a Saturday night. Something about the colorful, Euro caricature artwork on the walls gives it a sexy vibe.
Service was warm and attentive, and lots of specials on the menu, just the way I like it 🙂
Chianti Classico and Montepulciano Abruzzo by the glass were great, though slightly pricy. Swordfish entree was awesome, not too tough and great smoky taste. Black cod with tomatoes, potatoes and leaks was equally enjoyable, though served in a broth that was a bit salty for my taste.
Skipped dessert, but overall great experience. Loved returning to this neighborhood as I used to live right down the street. Right among all the action on 2nd ave, perfect location.
Came here with my family for a big group dinner of 10 people – we called 15 minutes ahead of time and they were able to accommodate us. Attentive service, tasty Italian food and they were quick to wash my aunt's coat when the lady sitting behind us spilled her wine! Only con was that their huge, beautiful flower arrangement on the bar had gardenias which are very fragrant and you could smell them all over the restaurant. Walls are covered with cool, funky artwork and ceiling is complete with disco ball for late-night discothequing.
