So good!
I worked at a different location for like two weeks and didn't like the job, but I still come back all the time to eat because the food is so amazing. It definitely helps to know that all the food is fresh and they really care about their products, by the way.
Anyway, I never had beef here but I've had turkey and duck burgers and they're amazing. I used to smother it in toppings and get onions rings and fries and a chocolate peanut butter shake- YES!
Unfortunately, I was recently informed that I have a new dietary restriction of most foods I love.. gluten, dairy, white potatoes/rice, red meat.
I thought I was doomed, but I ordered a burger with vegan cheese, a gluten free bun, and sweet potato fries and I felt like I still got the same amazing experience.
The bun was a little too flaky and soft for me, a bit awkward but it could also be because of how many toppings and sauces I stuffed into it.. but hey, I highly recommend it wether you have dietary restrictions or not. They have something for everyone. And that something is G O O D!
Excellent lunch special of 10.62 with tax for a burger, fries and soda. Thick burger, cooked how you want accompanied by quarter spear true kosher pickle. Easy peasy quick bite before a hop on the subway into the city.
The yellow awnings of Bareburger always demand my attention and as I continue to see more of them around the city, my curiosity grows more and more. It was a glorious three-day weekend when a friend and I decided to finally give this place a try. I arrived first and was a bit nervous seeing a crowd waiting in the front considering I had not made a reservation in advance. As I went in, I was so thankful it was warm and appreciated the fun decor (painted, wooden bear heads sticking from the wall, utensils used as chandeliers, booths and childhood cartoons playing on TV). I asked how long the wait would be for my friend and I and was told it was about 20 minutes. When she arrived, she came with another friend of ours so I changed the group to three. Moments later, I noticed she brought her fiance so I changed it to four. I thought it was inevitable that our wait would be significantly longer considering that some of the crowd that was there when I originally arrived was still waiting but no, it was still about a 15-20 minute wait. The wait was fine, since the Beatles were playing and we were in the middle of the entrance of the restaurant and no one told us to move or wait in the outside awning area.
We were seated towards the back, which was like a second room of the restaurant. I appreciated how the booths were so high we could still have a bit of privacy and noticed how there was a tiny area with stools for those who really wanted to eat here and would settle for not having a proper table. Our server was gracious and very attentive giving us a lot of time to pick out drinks and meals. Everyone but myself ordered a proper drink (e.g. alcohol) like a Left Hand Milk Stout, Blood Orange Margarita (reminiscent of a slush puppy) and Bareburger's version of a Moscow Mule. I ordered a seemingly lame white peach iced tea but it was 20oz, light with a hint of flavor, so I felt like I was #winning.
For noms, I seriously considered getting one of their salads. Then I thought,"why the hell am I getting a salad when I'm at a place that's clearly known for their burgers?" So when I came to my senses, I ordered the Fire Quacker: duck, pepper jack cheese, habanero mayo, pickled jalapenos, red onions, spinach, tomatoes on a delicious brioche bun. I love duck, anything spicy and trying anything unique (never heard of a duck burger). It was delicious that it quickly disappeared from my plate and left my taste buds were deeply appreciative of my choice despite being on diet. Speaking of diets, my friend suggested that I could create my own burger on the Be My Burger section of the menu where I could pick anything from a bun, cheese, bacon, sauce and spread. This was in an effort to control what exactly was on there but I wanted to pick one of their own Bare Burgers instead (which, by the way, has all of their red meats cooked medium unless specified). My friend ordered the Wiki Wiki burger: wild boar, gouda, duck bacon, pineapple relish, chickpea onions on a bioche bun with a side of fries. Our other friend's fiance ordered the Guadalupe and was actually charged $1.20 extra for cheddar cheese: black bean, pickled red onions, tomatoes, alfalfa, guacamole on a sprout bun. With a little bit of ketchup, everyone was pretty much happy and satisfied! Towards the end no one had room for dessert but coffee was had by 2 out of 4 of us. When the bill came, we got a break down of who ordered what according to what seat we were in in our booth.
Totally worth satisfying my curiosity of what was beyond the signature yellow awnings.
It might be a chain restaurant in NYC, but I still think this place is worth the occasional stop. The burgers are inventive and tasty, the fries crispy but not crunchy, and the other options like salads/sandwiches make it easy for everyone to find something on the menu.
This location is pretty big for the area. I would definitely opt for the outdoor seating on nice weather. Though, be careful, the tables are a bit slanted. I think of this review as 3.5 stars because while the food is great, I don't find myself raving about it.
Elk, Ostrich, Lamb burgers. I have to admit, I was reluctant to try them when they first opened up in the area but then i decided to be adventurous. Elk and Ostrich burgers are delicious and their chocolate milkshakes are the best! Seriously – try the chocolate milkshake it is very unique and ultra chocolatey. Sometimes i come here JUST to pick up one.
I can't stress how many times I have passed a Bareburger and have not gone inside. SO MANY TIMES. They are everywhere now and finally chalked down and did it. I lie. I actually had been to the Bareburger in Astoria only once before for drinks. I had a pumpkin beer, sampled my friends' drinks and hung out there while taking in their very cool silverware chandelier lightshades. My friend's fiance is obsessed with their Salty Dogs. However, they recently rotated it out of their seasonal menu. Bring it back so that Tom doesn't have to drink Moscow Mules when he comes in!
We came for brunch a few weeks ago on probably one of the coldest days of the year. It was a bit of a wait but I guess worth it. My drink was kind of lame. I didn't taste a lot of booze but really wanted something refreshing and went with the blood orange frozen margarita. I swear the first time I went in when I tried a small sample of it it had tasted significantly stronger.
The problem with ordering from Bareburger is that you have to order everything individually. Yes, their burgers are pretty epic. They are worth the price value times a million and there are so many varieties and you can build your own burger. But fries cost extra. It's only $2.80 for the additional side though and it is shareable and a pretty large portion. Don't let the other shareable items option confuse you into purchasing triple the amount of fries you want for like $5.
On my visit I was pretty indecisive. I wanted to try everything but went with the Wiki Wiki: Wild Boar meat with gouda, duck bacon, chickpea onions, and pineapple relish on a brioche bun. It was both sweet and decadently savory dripping with juices and had a bit of crispness from the battered onions. I inhaled it. One of my friends had ordered the Fire Quacker (which would have been my next choice): Duck meat with pepper jack cheese, habanero mayo, pickled jalapenos, red onions, spinach, and tomato. My friend's fiance went with the healthy vegetarian burger alternative – The Guadalupe – Black bean burger with pickled red onions, tomato, alfalfa sprouts, and guacamole on a sprout bun. The fries were just okay. Again, I'd just get one side and share it with the table because the burgers are pretty filling in themselves.
Things I like the most about this place: the variety of quality meats, cheeses, vegetables, and sauces to decorate your bun with is something that brings tears of joy to my little blue eyes. They also sell awesome sounding sandwiches (Hot Honey Chicken, Buttermilk Buffalo) making your quest for deciding on what to order that much more of an obstacle. Things I don't like about this place: drinks are over-priced unless it is happy hour and that everything costs extra. Also, it gets pretty packed in here but that's usually the sign of good grub.
Another swing, another hit. This is the original Bare Burger, from what I gathered. We had nachos made with french fries, buffalo chicken bites, and I got a bison burger. Everything was very tasty and cooked very well.
The check turned out to be pretty high, but we did order appetizers, sides, and drinks with the meal. I will definitely be back soon. Ya know, once I check out all the other burger places in the neighborhood.
As big as Bareburger is getting, it's impressive to see that the place still has the same small niche burger place charm that makes it such a fun place to grab a bit. This is a fine Bareburger, with a small indoor seating section and some tables outside which with the nice weather upon us I'm sure will be packed. The only issue with this place is that with an area so full of burger options, Bareburger is just a little pricey for the size of the burger. More akin to a slider then a full on burger, something worth 12 dollars shouldn't take only 4 bites to finish.
