  1. Bare burger is a surprisingly great chain! BB is an organic build-a-burger chain restaurant and bar located on Austin Street, across the street from the newly opened Shake Shack.

This location is fairly large with a small dining room in front and a larger seating area to the right. Even though there are a good amount of seats, the wait for a Friday night averages around 40-50 minutes.

We ordered the Fire Quaker (duck, pickled jalapeno, sesame brioche bun), the Supreme Burger (beef, bacon, fried onion rings), Jalapeno poppers (jalapeno stuffed with pimento cheese), and roasted brussel sprouts.
I loved the Fire Quaker! Juicy medium cooked duck meat with the sour slightly spicy jalapenos was perfect! K tasted my burger, looked at my burger and said, "that's definitely a better burger than mine." I agree!
The Supreme burger had sweet juicy beef and perfectly fried onion rings.

Their brussel sprouts were perfectly roasted and sweet-savory with salty flakes of manchego cheese. Soo good! The Jalapeno poppers were a meal on their own!
The long jalapeno was deveined and stuffed with cheese, then breaded and baked. So crispy, cheesy and savory!

The service was excellent! I was offered hot water refill for my digestif tea and we were well looked after. When we packed the meal to go, we were given a little brown bag with utensils, napkins and their house-made sunny-sweet ketchup. Even their ketchup is good!

  2. We came here for an early dinner (6pm ish) on a Friday night, mostly because the place we were going to originally, 5Burro, had a one hour wait. really? I've never been to 5Burro but that's way too long for me. Which is why we went here.

First of all I have to say that all the staff we interacted with were super nice. The hostess, our waiter…the busboy. Everyone was really nice. It was noticeable so I figure I should bring it up. It was 3 adults and one 2 year old, so I knew that maybe we would be a bit annoying but the staff never brought it up.

Food wise, everything was great. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich, which was REALLY good. A lot of flavor. My lady and my friend we were with both got the Cubano, which is made over at Bareburger out of brisket…so it's heavy duty. It's a lot of sandwich, so bring your eating pants for that one, but it's really good. We ordered a large portion of sweet potato fries, which comes with their version of ranch and their "special sauce." Both were fantastic on the fries. We also got a couple of adult beverages. Me and my lady got their version of the Manhattan, and my friend got the margarita. Our Manhattans were really good, a bit on the sweet side, but good. The margarita I was told was also solid (and frozen) so that was nice, even though it wasn't very warm on Friday, it still helped after a long day at the office so to speak. Now that I know how good this place is, I can find a MUCH closer place to my job to eat at!

  3. I really, really liked this place! This is something I can see in LA, but its nice to see this is a home bred New York chain. They have many different options of meats, from traditional burgers to bison, boar and elk, just to name a few. The ability to customize your burger or choose from pre-made burgers is great and lets you have a lot of control or just rely on their suggestions.

The Mrs and I got the Grindhouse which is a elk based meat. It was quite messy but very flavorful. We also got the onion rings and sweet potato shareable which was great for me and my party of four and a half. We all really liked the sauces that came with the shares, and we debated stealing some for the road. They also have craft sodas which are super delicious and I really enjoyed the blueberry soda. Would definitely come back and try some of the other stuff they have here.

I'm really happy to see Forest Hills transforming. I used to come here when I was a kid to watch movies with my family, but with spots like this, its really making this community a great place to eat and hang out in Queens.

  4. With the amount of burger places available in the city, I've begun having pretty high expectations when I check out a new burger joint. This was my first experience at a Bareburger after passing by it many times and let me just start by saying – wow!

I was absolutely shocked at the many options available, different types of meat (elk, bison, ostrich?!), toppings, sides, it took me a while just to figure out what I wanted. I decided to try the el matador which had guac, pico de gallo, basically a taco in a burger made with bison meat. Again – WOW! I've never had a bison burger before, and this was just amazing. The only thing I did not really like about this experience was how small our table (for 2 people) was and how close we were to the table next to us. But to their defense, the hostess did ask if it was okay and I hesitantly said it was so that's my fault.

Overall, definitely worth trying and be prepared to experience some new types of meat!

  5. I decided to give this spot a try after hearing from co workers about how good it is. First off, it is a sit down place. I tried the burger and fries. It was nothing special. The meat itself is grass fed and organic but I just wasn't satisfied with the patty. It was really bland in my opinion. The fries weren't crispy either. It is also more on the pricey side. I won't be coming back here.

  6. I visited this location on Austin Street and had usually gone to the Bayside location on Bell Blvd. I assumed the food would be the same as the other location. Boy was I wrong. First off the staff were all friendly, courteous, and attentive.

My issue was my food. I ordered a brunch item that was Fried Chicken over French Toast with pecans. Sounds delicious doesn't it? Ugh. The breading on the chicken was so overly fried parts of it were almost black in color. It was also heavily peppered. Which I also do not like. The worst part was the chicken. I thought this was supposed to be good healthy organic meat?? My chicken was inedible. It was so fatty, there were some veins (gag) and it was really chewy. Two bites and I was so nauseated I couldn't finish my meal. Maybe it was my mistake for assuming it was would all white breast meat? And not some cheap nasty chicken thigh or tenderloin over whatever that was that was on my plate.

Such a shame. Now I have a bad taste in my mouth with this place. I don't think I will ever return to any of them.

  7. Bareburger never fails to hit the spot whenever I'm craving burgers! Their fries and onion rings are pretty good too. I always end up ordering the supreme burger with a basket of onion rings paired with a cold glass of their all natural soda… Hits the spot every time!

  8. Pretty good burgers here. I tried the country fair burger while my boyfriend created his own burger. It was good, no complaints. I liked the fries a lot, it was super yummy! Definitely worth trying if you haven't been to Bare Burger before.
