We came here for happy hour and got two drinks and dollar oysters. Oysters were meh but the drinks were good and cheap. It was very busy and loud here so chatting was a bit hard. Our server was so busy taking care of other people but she made sure they were happy about our experience.
I never thought I liked Korean bbq – and then I tried barn Joo
The food is amazing
The wings, the kimchi are my 2 favorites
They are great for events, the restaurant is a floor multi level space with a big bar on the main floor but they also have a 100 person space downstairs with its own bar and stage for live music
Everything from corporate events to birthdays to just a dinner – this is the perfect locale
Ask for Ray the manager – staff is fantastic and will take great care of you!!!
Unreal. Seriously one of the BEST restaurants I've been to in NYC. I wasn't sure what to expect because I usually don't east Korean/Asian fusion, but I definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to branch out and try something new.
I came here with 4 other friends on a pretty crowded Tuesday night. It took a really long time to be seated in the speakeasy part of the restaurant, but the drinks at the bar were so good we didn't mind waiting around a little. The cucumber and dill cocktail was delicious and pretty strong. I'm always worried about getting specialty cocktails because they sometimes don't put enough alcohol, but this drink was perfection and gave me a nice buzz to start off the night.
We were finally welcomed by a friendly hostess who opened a secret door next to a red telephone in to the Grain Room. This place was beautiful. More quiet and cozy with a great jazz band playing. It was a perfect atmosphere for a girls night.
Now on to my favorite part…the food. This food was TO DIE FOR. Barn Joo took everything I ever thought was delicious and made me forget about it. I really want to know who came up with this menu and how they did it. My friends and I all shared a few plates which I highly recommend because there is so much goodness on this menu that it's impossible to choose one thing for yourself. The two most stand-out dishes to me were the Tiger Roll and the Scallion pancakes. My mouth is watering just from thinking about them. The Tiger roll is by far THE best sushi roll I've ever had(and I've had a lot of sushi). The scallion pancakes were extremely unique and tasted incredible with the dipping sauce. Just pure perfection.
The bill didn't come out too pricey. I loved our waitress. I loved everything. Barn Joo is flawless. I would eat dinner here every night if I could.
Barn Joo has an amazing Happy Hour menu (everyday from 4 to 7 pm). $1 fresh oysters, Bulgogi tacos, chicken wings, bacon and veggies etc. All of the items were flavorful, delicious and the portions were very generous. The atmosphere had a trendy and fun vibe, there was a fair amount of space, and the service was attentive and friendly. Definitely a great spot for a casual date or night out with friends.
First went for the uni bibimbap which I thought lived up to the hype! The chicken wings were bomb but the salmon salad needed some seasoning. Felt that the cocktails were a little overpriced (didn't really like them much) and that the restaurant itself was a little too dimly lit for my personal taste but it was an overall good experience. Would go back for the uni bibimbap!
Good buzz on Yelp inspired us to stop for dinner and we enjoyed everything but the smallish portions (especially vs traditional Korean places). Hipster ambiance, attentive servers, really good food, and fair prices made this place a noteworthy stop. Highlights from the menu were: fried tofu and crispy asparagus apps, hot and spicy wings, jeopchae, multi grain rice (yes it was that good).
Dollar oysters, boiii. They were good and surprisingly fresh, too! Happy hour cocktails were alright (the grapefruit thyme soju tasted like juice). Other HH apps like chicken wings were OK at best. Come for the oysters, check out the whiskey downstairs.
I came here for lunch. Seems like this place is more poppin during dinner. The dinner menu has more of the traditional Korean dishes and nice deals. The lunch menu was okay. Nice place to try traditional Korean food with a twist since its fusion. I would like to come back during dinner and see what it's like. Although I'm not a fan of crowds…
For lunch I had the bulgolgi bibimbap. Definitely disappointed that there was no crunchy rice along the bowl. But besides that it tasted like a traditional
Bibimbap. Since it was a long wait for the food our waiter gave us free hibiscus lemonade. Taste was wonderful. It was very bubbly.
