Great place for happy hour or to grab a quiet dinner. I'm from out of town and was staying just down the street when I came across this place on Yelp. I started with the appetizer special which was burrata with crostini. The cheese was great, but I needed some more crostini! Then I had the lobster risotto which had plenty of lobster and was a nice big portion. I got a side of roasted Brussels sprouts which were nice and crispy the way I like them. My waiter said they had donuts for dessert, but after an appetizer and a large portion of risotto I was too full… Maybe next time 🙂
3.5 stars. Maybe this place is pretty new as well, but I'm sure it won't be long before it gets more popular. No wait for brunch on a weekend, win! My sister and I stopped in here and we had looked at the menu ahead of time, knowing that it's somewhat limited; I don't think that really matters as long as the food they do serve is good. We walked in and were told we could grab our own seats, service was friendly throughout our time there. The good, I love the whole rustic design of the place and it's very spacious, so it's great for a comfortable dining experience. The bad, I have this habit of wiping down the plates and utensils before eating and thats also how I noticed the stain (lipstick?!) around the glass rim. It wasn't just on my glass, it was on my sister's glass as well as the glasses on the tables next to us. I just ended up wiping them down before drinking from them, but eek…
We ordered truffle fries to share, shrimp and grits and corned beef hash with rye, served with two eggs. The truffle fries were served with spicy mayo, but they were just ok. Some of the fries were kind of soggy and there really wasn't much flavor. The shrimp and grits were good, creamy grits and flavorful shrimp; it's hard to find grits made right in NYC. The corned beef hash was pretty good too, the corned beef was made well. This place may possibly better than lots of other places in the Park Slope area. I recommend giving them a try if you like good food and nice ambiance. It's also a quick walk from the subway and there's a good amount of parking around as well. Overall, a nice option to have for a simple meal!
Review is a bit late, had dinner here with girlfriends during Xmas time and we all enjoyed it.
It's a bit off the beaten path away from your usual Park Slope eateries but it's definitely worth a visit. Nice place situated on the corner, bar seatings and cozy decor.
We did however missed out on Happy Hour $1 oysters. It's from 4 -7pm, enjoy!
Now, here's what we stuffed our belly with: Mini Lobster rolls (it was ok – kind of disappointing), over-priced oysters (the shells were very dirty), short rib empanada (lackluster..), Lobster Risotto (tasty & rich), Stuffed Pork Chops (delicious and savory), and Seared Salmon (kind of boring), Brussels Sprouts and Truffle Fries (underwhelmed in taste). Service was good and attentive, then again… We were the only dining patrons for most of the night…
The menu is simple, some of the entrees packed a powerful punch… However, there are a few misses and would be a welcome opportunity for improvement.
South slope is the new and upcoming hipster neighborhood similar to park slope proper.
I was excited to try this new place. Walking we we're greeted right away by the friendly staff.
I noticed the brick wall design thought it was cool and a nic touch. The bar is a cement type finish away from the typical wooden bar, thought that made it very different.
Being that this is a pretty new establishment I will cut them a little slack for the menu not having much to choose from.
What I won't give them a pass on is the fact that I ordered a well done burger and the inside was completely raw.
They apologized and replaced it with another 10 minutes later that still had redness on the inside but not completely raw.
Key to a well done burger is to keep it on a low flame for a bit longer so the heat gets inside the meat.
I decided not to say anything until I was ready to leave and was very impressed by the waitress response.
She was happy to receive constructive criticism and said it with a smile.
For that I would be more then happy to come back. Hopefully they will bring back hanger steak or skirt steak to the menu as well.
Give them a try.
This place is lovely! A bit off the beaten path but their food and atmosphere make it worth it. My fiancé and I went on a Saturday night and were delighted there was not a wait (although I'm sure once word gets out that will be a rarity). I had the Brusselsprouts tomato soup and veggie crostini. All the food was very flavorful and delicious. The wait staff was excellent and even over heard us discussing my fiancé's upcoming birthday and gave us a glass of wine of the house. We'll definitely be coming back.
