So i am not one for visiting a new place once it opens. So i waited a few days. Although i do think the place needs a little editing….
Came in for lunch. Thought to myself the lunch menu and dinner menu only have a few different options. Now at most eatablishments lunch prices are less than dinner entrees. Not here. Prices are the same.
Now i get it the area has some stiff competition but the price should be different.
Some pros.
-decor and ambiance nice
-simple menu
-friendly staff
-food good
-olive butter delicious
Cons
-lunch price same as dinner
-found a shell in my lobster roll. Guess that means its fresh, also wouldve preferred my okay pretzel roll toasted or warmed
-bread for the table was not warm
-taco orders only come with 1 taco!
-one of the salads i wanted beet salad was not availiable–bummer
-margherita pizza def burnt
I think i will give this place another shot but maybe in a few months
I have been watching this very interesting architectural space Northern Blvd for the last year and finally it has identity, it is s new restaurant call Barto. We heard it was opened so we stopped in try it out.
Like the facade, the interior is also tastefully and uniquely decorated. Despite sitting right on a main road, the elevation removes you from the hustle bustle, but with the large windows you feel like you should be on a mountain top
The environment and staff were very welcoming from the start, and despite having only been opened for 4 days the service from top to bottom was close to excellent.
The menu offered an interesting mix of entrees and apps, many with a unique combination of unexpected ingredients. We started with a margarita pizza and the burrata. The pizza looked like the fresh thin crust brick oven pizza that is becoming common in many finer restaurants, which would have been great, but in addition it had a subtle and interesting taste that made it excellent. The burrata was served with strawberries, which while interesting did not do it for me.
For entrees we had the burger, scallops and a short rib taco. Like the pizza, all had just a little something that delighted the senses. The burger had a chipotle sauce that had a mild bite and was very tasty. The scallops were also excellent and were accompanied by cauliflower that had a spice that was delicious The taco also had an appealing mix of flavors. Even the red sangria had an unexpected but delightful flavor…not overly sweet.
We did not have room for desert, but did get a visit from one of the owners before leaving, making sure everything was to our liking.
Barto appears to have attention to detail both in food and service, as well as an excellent chef and menu choices to make it. We will be back again to explore other menu selections and maybe even desert.
I saw this place before it even opened and thought omg how cute, modern and yay about time long island started getting cooler looking places. you know instead of the typical restaurant that used to be something else then was taken over, etc…. seriously I know long island is suburban and not a hip place to be but it doesn't hurt having cool looking restaurants, there should be more of them. anyway today as my friend wanted to go out for lunch I mentioned coming here so we came. awesome looking decor inside and food was delicious give me truffles and I'm always happy. plus my appletini was great which is always a bonus. I'd definitely come back and I'd recommend this place.
