Nope nope nope nope nope. I was excited to come here and try the green curry ramen with garlic, roast pork, and okra. It was not flavorful at all. Also, it did not come with much broth. At better quality and more authentic places, the noodles are swimming in rich, delicious broth. Overrated and I regret coming here.
soup and flavor is a solid – five star
overpriced, tiny bowl of chewy noodles – one star
the point of ramen is the noodle and somehow, they missed the whole point. it was lack luster at best. couldn't believe the amazing flavor was over shadowed by the lame noodles. too bad.
XOXO. The service was great, the ramen was pretty decent; nothing special. Came here after a yoga session at Bryant park. Friend told me to decide on a place so I googled a Ramen place in Chinatown and Bassanova was one of the choice. Restaurant was pretty dim, upon arrival there weren't a lot of customers during a Thursday evening so we were seated right away. Restaurant + an alcoholic friend = a guinea pig. Decided to order samurai sake ! Our meals arrived but my drink didn't. The waiter completely forgot about the drink so he gave me the drink on the house. The waiter asked if everything was good, I nodded and say yes while looking at the drink. Jokingly asked if he can put more like juice since the drink was strong. He proceed to adding more lime juice. (:
I came here on the insistence of a friend, and Thrillist's "Top 10 Absolute Best Ramen Spots in NYC" checklist, that I needed and wanted to try the green curry ramen, which I ended up not getting (my husband chose that one), instead, I was on a lemon kick after visiting Italy and being surrounded by so many lemon trees in Capri, that I automatically went for the "Lemon & Black Pepper Tondaku Ramen" (berkshire pork tonkotsu soup with lemon & black pepper. topping with: portion chashu, kikurage mushroom, fried ginger onion, crushed sesame, nori, and scallion). Presentation was lovely, where the slices of lemon dress the bowl, covering every inch of your noodles like a lid on a pot. I was amazed the lemon slices were thin enough that you can eat them, glorious, citrus-y rind and all. Overall, I was satisfied, but I don't think I was blown away. I think I had wanted and expected the broth to have a stronger acidic flavor because of the lemon, but also heightened by other complexities in the flavor to temper the lemon. I didn't really enjoy the texture of the thin noodles.. a softer texture would have been better.
They don't accept cc, so if you don't have cash on hand, be prepared to seek out an atm (not the hardest thing in Chinatown, but still, an annoyance nonetheless).
3.5 Stars.
Wanted to check out this new hip spot in the heart of Chinatown for a while. Finally got a chance to and boy i was not blown away. Let's start with the food. Ordered the pork buns because it's a must at Ramen spots but it was mediocre (rather stick with ippudo) then when it was time to order, I asked what does the waiter recommend and he named the top two ramen that was recommended inside the menu and walked away. Did not bother going more in depth which I didn't like. Ramen was alright. I had the green curry and it was REALLY spicy and now I'm sitting on the toilet typing this (not ladylike I know) i prob won't come back. Bright side, their decor are cute. I felt like I was by the sea.
Found out about this restaurant while in Chinatown. Never would have expected such a hip place to be located here. Gave it a try and thought the ramen was actually not bad!
Definitely satisfied my ramen craving for the day, and in a convenient location as well. No need to venture farther away for ramen!
This place has excellent Ramen. While you're here have a Boylan Soda – best soda ever! If you're new to Ramen just try the New York Times recommended soups.
I had my first bowl of ramen here, so admittedly, not a lot to compare it to. But it was DELICIOUS and my husband and I ate in silence because we were enjoying it so much.
The ambiance is not sexy or cool, and it was a little close for comfort on account of a very chatty man dining along sitting next to us. But that's not Bassanova's fault. And, the food completely makes up for the setting.
I wish we had a place like this in Charleston. I think I would try other ramen spots before going back since I don't live in New York, but if I did live there, there would be nothing wrong with calling this my go-to.
