Interesting African food in an unsuspecting venue.
Based on a Serious Eats recommendation, I stopped by with a friend before a Yankee game on a weekend. There were only a few other people inside, so definitely not a very popular place, although we saw a few people come in and out. We split an order of the guinea fowl and the lamb–the former was decently flavored although a bit dry, while the lamb was fairly tender but a bit overspiced. The dishes were a bit on the harder side to eat as you had to book through bones in both of them, but they had a fair amount of meat; you just had to work a bit to get to it. We ordered the acheke as a side, which was a grain that was a bit different in texture from rice (thinner, smaller grains) but could have a bit more flavor. I also tried the ginger drink, which was pretty sweet and tasty but extremely ginger-y, and this is coming from someone who drinks a lot of ginger beer.
It's not really a place you come for fine dining–there isn't much by the way of service, and the place is dimly lit and with booths whose seats aren't securely fastened to the ground in any way, shape, or form–but if you're looking for interesting cuisine within walking distance of Yankee Stadium, this isn't a bad, fairly inexpensive option.
