Bawarchi Indian Cuisine

“Also food was delivered in about 30min which is great considering I ordered at peak time and work in the 80's on UES.”

“I have to admit I've tried a number of Indian places that deliver to my neighborhood here in East Harlem and I have get to find one as tasty and dependable as this.”

“Delicious and huge portions- a tad expensive depending on the dish but worth it, it'll probably count for more than one meal!”

  1. This was one of the most unexpectedly satisfying Indian meals I've had in a while. I really loved it's simple concept of pay by the pound.

The food was so flavorful. And the biriyani was on point. Which says a lot because it's tough to find good authentic biriyani. And they had a goat curry! Which made my little Indian belly so happy.

Try this place if you're in the area, you won't be disappointed!

  2. An affordable, tasty spot to get a meal. You can fill up for less than $10 at this Indian-style pay-by-the-pound buffet. Highlights are the Chicken Tikka Masala, and the other curries they have. Free garlic nan and drink with your meal.

They also have meals you can just order, but most just get the buffet.

I, for one, never enjoyed the fish. Never thought it was cooked the right way, but that's me. I also wish there were a more sanitary way to dispense of the food. There's soooo many people that come thru that those tongs get all gross then touch the food. I usually just gritted my teeth and dealt with it, but ehhhhhhhhhhhh I had to psych myself up before digging in thinking, "whats the WORST that could happen…." Hair, usually hair. Not their fault, but beware the hair! Dig deeep down in the pan for a spot not yet touched!

$10 credit card minimum. Catering, too.

  3. Dude yes.

You pay by weight. $10 credit card minimum. Weighted buffets are great because you pick and choose whatever you want. I choose everything.

They have the usual Indian selections as well as some Americanized items. Chicken tikka masala, goat curry, korma, biryani, and even dosas (I haven't tried those yet)!!!

    MANGO LASSI is sooooooooooooooooooo gooooooooooooooooood.

    They give you naan too.

  4. Walked in for lunch.  Food is buffet with pay by the pound.  Nothing particularly noteworthy, nothing particularly bad.  Some of the food looked a little questionable, like it hadn't been stirred in a long time, despite coming at noon.

Tried the saag, chicken tikka and some okra over rice.  It was okay.

It's serve yourself which I don't really care for in NYC.  I would much prefer the food to be served by someone behind the counter.

Probably won't bother coming back. Probably really deserves a 2.5 in my book.

The guy working there seemed apathetic.

Once got some delivery but there is a pretty high delivery order minimum with very inconvenient prices.  I remember the delivery being kind of greasy.

  5. 5 stars for food quality abd variety. Waled in for lunch on a tuesday. Lots of variety of food- salad bar, Snacks bar, main entree bar, lassi bar with fish, 4 chicken preparations, paneer, navratan korma, 2 biryanis, 2 dals and free nan. You pay by weight. I paid only 5 dollars for my plate and my friend paid only 6 for his!!!!! This is hands down the best indian meal for my pocket I have had in this area. Most imp, despite low price,  it's hygienic! This is my to-go place now for good indian food until I find my next :)!

TIP- definitely try out for lunch if you like indian food and love your money!!!

  6. Being a person who has grown up on Pakistani food, I must say I enjoyed the food here. I arrived late around 2:30, I chose 2 different chicken dishes, chicken tikka masala and chicken curry, what was left of the saag paneer, and the goat dish from the steam table, which is done by 3p. I paid $9.15 and got some free naan, I could've also picked a soda but I didn't. The food was enough for 2 but I needed extra naan. All the dishes I tried were good, the right kind of spicy. Just wish they had a bigger selection, and sweets! If I get a hankering for Desi food I will definitely be back.

  7. I went here to grab a bite for lunch on a weekday afternoon. As many people have reported, this place lets you build your own plate and then pay for it based on the weight.

I decided to go with a mix of rice with tikka masala, a vegetable dish, and saag paneer. While the saag paneer was very good, the vegetable dish was just alright. The tikka masala, on the other hand, was super underwhelming–I don't know if the flavor just wasn't there in the sauce or if the chicken was a bit overcooked, but I was very underwhelmed.

Overall, this place is decently cheap and quick and allows you to serve your self. The owner was friendly enough, but the space is pretty cramped so most people seem to just take their food togo.
