Baz Bagel and Restaurant

“I ordered the Baz sandwich, which was Nova Scotia Lox, Scallion Cream Cheese, Tomato and Onion on a Pumpernickel Everything Bagel.”

“I am looking at the menu now and the Eggs a la Baz sounds interesting (it is two latkes, poached eggs, nova, chive on a bagel).”

“Great service and friendly staff. 🙂
I got the pumpernickel bagel with beet & horseradish cream cheese and a side cucumber salad.”

  1. Best breakfast we had during our quick weekend trip in NYC! Exceeded my expectations! Only wish we had found this place sooner so we could have eaten here multiple times. The staff is very friendly-they even stored our bags for us while we ate as this was our last stop on our way out of town and we had all of our luggage with us. I ordered an everything pumpernickel bagel with cucumber dill cream cheese and I added a slice of tomato and capers per our waitress' suggestion.  I'm glad I listened – the toppings were added a really nice extra later of flavor (although I could have eaten the cream cheese by the spoonful it was so good)!! Everything was super fresh, cream cheese was clearly house made with pieces of cucumber and dill in every bite. The pumpernickel bagel was one of the best I've ever had! My husband had the everything bagel with the nova and scallion cream cheese and the cucumber salad as his side. He agreed that the food was top notch! We were both also highly impressed that the bagels came with a side and a pickle. I had the fruit salad wish was refreshing. Presentation was impressive in an unexpected way considering this was a little bagel shop and diner. The atmosphere was super cute and quaint. Worth the trip to NYC just to experience Baz Bagels!!!

  2. For a place that specializes in bagels, I was disappointed. I think that the focus here is more on the creative spreads/fillings than on the bagels, which edge more towards airy fluff than the dense chew of a true bagel. For me, buzzword items like Nova lox and beet and horseradish cream cheese don't make up for the fact that Baz has pretty average bagels.

  3. The ambiance of this place is like a diner, and its super cute. They always have great music in the background and the staff for the most part is very friendly. Their bagels are delicious, better than other places I have been and their lox is good. I got the novel last time but should have gotten the one with the herbs on the edge (forget the name) because it was much better.
Service for the most part is good, but they always get your order right (who doesn't love that!).

  4. solid 3. i can find better tasting bagel sandwiches in brooklyn for a much cheaper price. i ordered the baz original. it only had cream cheese, salmon, tomato, and onions. the bagel didn't even taste that good to rave about it to my friends. not sure if i want to come back and give it another chance seeing how i spent over $10 on a bagel sandwich when i can get in other places for less than $10.

  5. A cute and charming spot on the border of Little Italy and Chinatown, Baz has quickly become one of my favorite morning spots.

I've eaten here a handful of times now and the bagels have been made to perfection. They are super fresh and have so many choices for you to add to make your perfect bagel combo. There are so many different types of bagels but also fresh and interesting spreads! The space looks like a cute little diner with tables and also counter top space to sit. If you just want to grab and go, this is also another option.

The service here is super friendly, although sometimes it can get super packed. I've really enjoyed coming here and will be back again soon!

  6. First things first, Baz makes a mean bagel. They pump out hot, fresh bagels all day long, so you can often get a warm one, making toasting totally unnecessary. I went in on Saturday to pick up a grip of holed breads for a brunch I was hosting at my apartment, and the cute counter boys were super helpful with my indecision. All of the regular bagels I got were a hit, although everything was definitely the standout, and our one gluten-free guest said Baz's GF bagels were the best she'd ever had.

Cream cheese wise, the veggie is awesome, and the beet horseradish is weird but fun to try. The plain is just…plain. I've also had their bagel sammies before and they're all AWESOME, although when I have my bagel assembled at Baz I tend to go for veggie cc, tomato, and cucumber instead of the fancy stuff.

Extra points for having a cheery California-ish aesthetic. A bagel store that appeals to the New York Jew and the California girl in me…winning.

  7. Bagel adventure continued! I ordered the everything pumpernickel with beet and horseradish cream cheese and I was in for disappointment. They need to put more cream cheese! Besides that, I was amazed with their bagel. It seemed like a regular deli bagel, in terms of texture, with pink colored cream cheese.

  8. If your hip Jewish  grandma had a bagel cafe, this would be it. This spot is soooo cute and the menu is full of Jeiwish faves- matzoh Brei, lox and eggs, bagels, all ways and super shakes. This is the perfect "Goy" holiday destination.
    Ate in:
Cinnamon raisin with scallion cream cheese
    Decaf
    Total $8.17
Initially they made the blasphemous mistake of toasting my bagel- no I shrieked! So they re-worked it. The plate comes out with a small fruit cup- yum and a half sour slice- loved that!
The bagel was slightly warm, very good crunch and the fresh decaf was slam min'.
Some of the bagels, like the plain looked undercooked, but if you are looking for the ultimate bagel cafe experience, Baz is it!
