  1. I've heard of bcd tofu house before, specifically the one in Queens but I've never been, I got the chance to come to the one in ktown with a friend and came here on a Saturday afternoon around 2:30pm, as soon as we got here we were seated right away, we got the standard Korean appetizer dishes and we both got this fish thing which I sent back since I don't like fish, I ordered the bi bim bap which is a clay pot dish with rice, veggies, mushroom, beef and an egg, I'm a rookie to all this so apparently you're supposed to mix it all up, I didn't so some of my rice was stuck to the pot by the time I was done, this was my first time having this dish so I can't compare it but it was good, the ambiance of this place was nice the wait staff was pleasant and the food came out fast, this is a good spot with good prices I have to come back and next time try some other dishes

  2. Yuuuuuuum!!!

In my personal opinion, this place is sooo much better than So Gong Dong (in Edgewater).

Came here with my mom for dinner. We got the LA Galbi combo ($22) and the Bibimbap combo ($17). Both come with soondubu (you get to choose from either veggie or mixed. We got mixed). They have a good selection of banchan that they serve you and fried fish. The fried fish was delish!!! Crispy on the outside fluffy on the inside. Mmmm.

The galbi was flavorful and came out on a hot plate with onions on the bottom (which were grilled and weren't raw (like the other place)). The bibimbap was tasty too! Didn't need that much of the sauce to make it taste yummy. Which is always a plus.

The soondubu was two-thumbs-up. I got mine with spicy level hot. Which I feel was good. Not crazy spicy, but enough for it to give it a kick but still enjoy the flavor of it. But I am intrigued to try the danger option.haha.

Quick question! After they serve you the white rice, they serve the remaining rice with some tea broth. What's the name of that? And is it something to be eaten with your meal or at the end? Just curious.

One down side…so much food!lol. We had to take some food to go. The bill came out to be about $43 (without tip). Which I don't think it's too bad for the amount of food we got. Can the bill be lower? Sure! There are different combo options that are priced lower OR you don't even need to get a combo. So don't think this is average (it can be higher too).

All staff members were nice and prompt. But it does sometimes feel like you're rushed because they stand and wait around your table. But I know they're just there to be efficient.

Oh and a GREAT place if you have restless kids. They have a play area where they can hang out while you eat or wait for the food. And adults can watch them from a tv monitor where they have it so you can see them from your table without physically needing to check up on them.

Bathrooms were clean too. (Clean bathrooms say a lot).

    I'll be back!

  3. I don't get Korean food often, so I don't have a strong base to compare to. But here are some general facts:

A very busy restaurant during dinner time. To me that means high turnover, and people must enjoy eating there. Tables are kind of close together, especially the two person tables. It wasn't a problem, because with all the noise, I didn't worry about anyone else overhearing our conversation. It was difficult, however, to get in and out of the seat because you wanted to make sure your purse or ass didn't accidentally knock someone's plate off their table.

Servers were neither friendly or rude, but quick and efficient. As we sat down, people instantly brought us our waters, took our orders, and placed all the small little sides they give you — fish, kimchi, pickled cucumbers, etc. Regardless of their demeanor, this was good service in that they are providing you with the food!

Main dishes/our orders also came out fast. I got the cold veggie bowl with an egg. Everything seemed so fresh, and while it wasn't my favorite kind of food to eat, I did thoroughly enjoy it. Especially the shiitake mushrooms. Subtle flavors, earthy vegetables, hearty and filling without feeling bloated and disgusting.

  4. I admit when I'm wrong and I was wrong.

The food at BCD in Manhattan is as good as it's sister in Flushing. My seafood soon dooboo was served extra spicy – I was downing that water. It felt so good.

The ambiance and decor in Flushing is nicer (it even has a playroom for kids) – but it is in Queens so it has the luxury of space. The Manhattan locale feels like its environment – packed and a bit of a frenzy.

But the food is still so on point.

  5. After so many recommendations, and seeing how many reviews this place has gotten, I'm glad I got to finally try it! Typically, when it comes to Korean food, I opt for BBQ, so this was a nice change.

Really large space with tons of seating.  I liked that there were high ceilings too bc it opened up the space even more.  However, the only downside to this is that it was pretty loud.  Lots of voices as it is.  For the style/type of place this is though, it was pretty expected.

Service was also as expected…   They were a little abrupt and did was they needed to do; nothing more.  However, I did feel like I was being scooted out towards the end. Oh well haha at least they weren't rude per se!  Again, from my experience at Korean (or other asian cuisine) restaurants, service has never quite been their forte anyways.  I'm usually coming back strictly for the food, despite service lol

Good amount of banchan!  I liked that my friend and I each got our own fish as well!  Plenty to go around ^-^  My favorites were the tofu and the bean sprouts!  Some of the other stuff was a bit too spicy, but I'm also a horrible Korean and can't handle the heat =P  It's probably suitable for most others.  Speaking of that, I ordered the Beef Soondubu and requested mild.  Boiling hot upon delivery and it came out really quickly!  They give an egg for you to crack inside, and let's be real – everything is better with an egg!  Lots and lots of tofu and plenty of broth.  I always love when soups have a good balance of broth and content so your stomach is filled up in appropriate portions rather than just liquid calories.  What was of particular disappointment though was how tough the beef was.  I wasn't expecting it to be so overcooked and hard to eat.  Perhaps a different cut of meat would be more suitable? In any case, I was still quite happy with the meal overall.

This place gets super crowded around dinner time, even on the weekdays, so get there early!  Worth a try =)

  6. I've probably been to BCD (this one or in Queens) at least 15 times and there's a reason why. It's consistent, fast, and affordable… and open 24/7.
Seafood soondubu is my fave, but I've tried the kimchi, curry, mandoo, etc. They're all good.

They give a lot of banchan (side dishes), and I like the personal fried fish, even though it's filled with bones throughout and I usually end up giving up on it midway.
Their seafood pajun (pancake) is actually really good and crispy too. If you haven't tried it, I recommend! Their other dishes (meat, bibimbap) are good too. But I usually stick to the soondubu if I come here.

Service is usually quick once you get seated. I know certain times of the day it's impossible to get a seat without waiting for like 30 minutes, even though this place is pretty large.
This one serves flavored + regular soju & makeolli too, if you're interested in drinking (the vibes not really a drinking kind of place though). We were kind of looking for bokbunja but they didn't have that unfortunately.

It's not really stellar enough for 4 stars but better than just A-OK, so I gave it 4 stars anyway. Consistency is important and I've been here a lot, at all times of day (and night), and it's always been pretty solid.

  7. I've been here more than once and I don't think there's been a time that I've had a spectacular experience, but at the same time there hasn't really been any reason to say I've had a bad experience either.

    Pros:
    – They're open in the late hours of the night – open 24 hours.
    – There is a lot of additional seating upstairs.
    – The assortment of side dishes served are refillable, except for the fish.
    – Portion sizes are decent.

    Cons:
    – It's not a good place to go in groups; I'd imagine there can be a considerable wait depending on when you go.
    – The service varies.  I think most of the servers I've had were more passive than I was expecting.  It took a little while to flag one down for water, extra side dishes, our check, etc.

    Misc:
    – The prices are ok, but everything kind of adds up if one dish isn't enough for you.
    – There are three bathrooms and depending on how busy it is there might be a line for them.

Eh, as far as the food goes I find everything to be average.  Maybe I'll find myself coming back once in a blue moon but at this point I certainly don't expect anything to Wow me.

  8. Food was delicious. No denying that. But the service… Well. The hostess was a little snappy. In addition, Our waitress was a little feisty too at first. After a few smiles and some thank you dears. She warmed up to our party of seven just fine. She was like one of the gals. Lol. They give a nice little spread of different Korean dishes as an appetizer. It comes with your meal. All were really good.
