Okay, first off, being a native Arizonian, I couldn't believe the name of this bar and the fact that there were no protesters outside of this "Euro-style Mexican" coffee bar, so wouldn't survive in Phoenix, but being politically correct isn't really my forte anyway.
Secondly, this place was my favorite coffee bar I visited during my ten day adventure in Brooklyn.
I loved how friendly the barista was! It reminded me of us laid back peeps here on the West Coast 🙂 He greeted me with a friendly smile and 'hello' even though he was in mid conversation with a few locals that he addressed by name (love it). I let him know this was my first time here and asked what their specialty drink was, to which he replied the Mexican Mocha, to which I ordered. As I waited for my drink I noticed lots of Dia de los Muertos themed art and decor around the store as well as some local art available for purchase. There are five stools around the bar and two along the window table and this place offers free wi-fi. My 12 oz Mexican mocha came out to $4.65 and was worth every penny. The latte art was beautiful and the cinnamon stick that accompanies the drink is such an awesome touch. The barista asked for my name and if I wanted to be apart of their computerized customer list for a frequent flyer program they have (which is awesome), but unfortunately I declined due to me not living in Brooklyn 🙁 I will definitely be back though during my next visit! Keep up the good work!
Thanks guys for making us the stranger feel welcome, with a gentle and down to earth warmth. You have a great home feel, filled with color, flavor and personality.
The coffee menu is a fun play on words with beautiful quality ingredient combinations, the white & dark chocolate and espresso with a hint of spice (El Chicano), the chai latte with espresso (Mari-a-chai). The Counter Culture coffee, hand ground chocolate beans (per a note on the menu) make a real difference.
And if you are in need of a little comfort food, definitely order the awesome tamales. Beaner Bar could easily become your local within a visit or two.
This is Brooklyn's first Euro-Style Mexican Coffee Bar!
OK, you got me. I don't really know what that means. But they are staffed by the friendliest people ever, they have organic loose-leaf tea, tasty pastries, and according to my companion, awesome coffee.
Be warned though, the place is TINY. With just a few seats at the bar, it's not the best spot to stay for hours and get some work done. But fuck work. You'd rather sit on the bench outside, sip your tea and procrastinate anyway.
Aw yea!!! I got my tamale on…omg yes! Chicken tamale with green sauce and mix of beans and corn…all for $3.50….heck yes!
And yummy drinks and friendliest baristas ever?
Viva Beaner.
This is a phenominal place…from the unusually and refreshingly friendly staff to the incredible beverages to the free wifi, I can't imagine anything I'd change here. I ordered an iced Mexican Mocha on the staff's recommendation and it was so good that I got a second. I could have spent all day in this place. It's tiny and seating is limited but I hope it stays that way. It's quaint and charming in a way I haven't seen in a long while.
Great little coffee shop with a really cute interior. We came in the morning but it looks like they have some Mexican snacks too which I would go back for next time I am in the area. Great baristas!
Not a huge fan of the name, but I am a big fan of their cold brew and breakfast tacos! While the tacos aren't quite as good as what you'd get in say Austin, Williamsburg is quite a few miles from there so this'll have to do.
