  1. I don't usually like cream puffs so I wasn't expecting to like these so while my friends got cream puffs I got Mochi ice cream because I love those. However, I tried a bite of my friends cream puff and was TOTALLY blown away by how good it was! The original flavor is definitely better than the chocolate cream. Next time I come here I'm going to get a cream puff all to myself!

  2. cream puffs were crispy on the outside, nice cool fresh cream on the inside. loved that the cream was light and not too sweet. worth every calorie.

  3. SOO YUMMY!
They fill the cream puff right in front of you in this cute little shop on the upper west side. The simple menu features a few different kinds of cream puffs, with either vanilla custard or a special of the day (today's was cookies and cream). They also have mochi ice cream in 8 different flavors.
I wanted to try the paris brest cream puff, which is like a cream puff twisted into a doughnut-like shape. Unfortunately they were sold out so I opted for the cocoa puff filled with vanilla cream. My boyfriend got the cookies and cream and another friend ordered a couple mochi ice creams. Everything was amazing. The cream puffs are filled to the absolute max with thick, cold custard. The classic vanilla was better than the cookies and cream.
This is a place I'd definitely recommend NYC visitors to try. It's not too expensive either, each (huge) cream puff costing about $2.50.

  4. BEST CREAM PUFFS AND MOCHI ICE CREAM! I found out about this place when I was in Hawaii, but ever since then I've been obsessed with this place since finding out there was one in NYC.

The cream puffs are delicious and amazing! The pastry itself is crisp and crunchy! Don't get me started with the cream! It's absolutely the perfect combo with the pastry. The mochi ice cream is so good as well! I usually get the guava as well as the green tea flavor. Both are equally good. Sadly they sold out of mochi ice cream today though.

  5. I had the honor of being their very first customer to try their new mango soda. The soda was refreshing and I'd probably try it again, once the guys behind the counter got a little more comfortable at making it.

Their standard puff pastry with powdered sugar is mouth savoring good. The cream reminds me of a less sweet version of the filling found in Dunkin Donuts Boston cream donut. If only the pastry was freshly baked and hot.

Also had the chance to sample their mango mochi ice cream. Yes, I have an obsession with mango. They're the perfect fruit. But besides that, Pappas recently introduced this flavor (different from their old mango ice cream). The guy behind the counter tried to explain the difference but it went in one ear and came out the next. What's important is, the mochi ice cream aside from being a little too stiff/stale (don't really know the right adjective – but their freezer probably needs to be turned down a notch) was pretty good.

  6. Holy crow. These cream puffs are the bomb. The fill them when you order them so you know everything is fresh and never soggy. I enjoyed the eclair puff, and the chocolate on top was so rich. Normally bakeries skimp on the chocolate quality on things like this, but not Beard Papa's. Looking forward to the next trip here. Definitely will be taking some home with me. One is not enough people!

  7. There used to be several locations in NYC a few years ago, but now, there is only one locations now.  So, if there is only one place in NYC to get these cream puffs, then why not make them the best one to go to right? Well, not exactly…

So, what's the issue? Well, few things. First of all, the quality seems to be going down in several areas. They used to have more offering than just cream puffs in the refrigerated window showcase, but when we went back, they only had mochi ice creams, chocolate cake, and more cream puffs. Oh, and bottled water… Kind of sad to see that.

And then, the flavors of the filling. This has been the same from before, they only offer two flavors. The original, and the Flavor of the Day. If you check their website, they have so many flavors, SOOOOOO many! The small shop I visited in Japan had many flavors there as well. But here, they only offer two. I wonder why that is… they seem to have enough food traffic, the seating area is always nearly full, so I don't think they will have much trouble selling all the flavors each day…

The biggest issue I have is that the size was smaller than before, and, even more disappointing, the puff was not completely filled! This was the first time I have seen this type of disappointing result from Beard Papa's, I really wonder what is going on with them… I really hope that the quality of cream puffs here at NYC location will go back up in the near future. 8. Love these little puffs. Large, crunchy on the outside, and tons of cream on the inside, these are the perfect little snack. They're priced under $3 each, so dangerously easy to get. This store is small but cute with seating in the front. The have a small pile of puffs in the back that they customize based on what you order. I got the one with the chocolate crust on top, which I recommend.
