We were visiting friends and decided to eat out with our pup. This restaurant allowed us to eat outside if our dog stayed on the outside of their roped seating area. Apparently NJ changed the law and pets are not allowed at restaurants even if you sit outside. There was a table close to the roped barrier so we sat there. We were the only ones out there on a Saturday night. The menu is an interesting Korean fusion collection with kimchi burgers and bulgolgi tacos. I decided to get the hot stone bowl bulgolgi. The meat was good but the dish was mostly large pieces of veggies.
Solid lunch spot. Would I recommend coming to Jersey City just to eat here? No, but if you work in the area, it's good enough to add to your daily lunch rotation.
Beechwood is not your average cafe. They don't really specialize in any particular cuisine; their menu is practically all over the place with breakfast items to sandwiches, pastas, and even "Korean" options! It's kind of like a diner and a cafe had a baby and out came Beechwood.
My favorite dish is their Korean steak sandwich on an onion focaccia roll. Being a major bread lover, a restaurant's bread is key for me. Not to mention focaccia bread is my absolute favorite. The steak is juicy and tender that it drips all over your arms, so be sure to ask for extra napkins! Also, if you think a sandwich isn't enough, it's also served with a huge side of a pesto pasta salad. You can substitute the pasta salad with fries if you'd like, but I enjoyed the pesto pasta salad as well. For $11, this combination is such a steal as you practically get 2 lunches for the price of 1!
This was a charming cafe we stumbled into on a weekday morning with a last minute hankering for breakfast. It has charm and service was pleasant. I got the lox on toast and thoroughly enjoyed it. Nothing bad to say about this place, except that it's in Jersey City and I'm not.
Wowmazing. What a gem of a place in Jersey City.
I came here for brunch and had a burst of flavor explode in my mouth with every bite. The steak marinated in soy sauce accompanied by two eggs over easy! Best brunch I've had in a while. One small critique, it would be prudent to serve a carb with the meal such as toast. An all protein breakfast tends to be very heavy if not partnered with bread of some sorts.
I also enjoyed a latte after the meal completion and it was fantastic. It is always a struggle to find a place that doesn't make a latte taste burned or too milky. Well, this place does it JUST RIGHT! I almost ordered a second one.
The seating is a little cramped, but that's to be expected when the food is so amazing. There is very long group table in the middle of the seating area that tends to house very loud groups. Almost too loud for the tiny space. I'd suggest breaking it up so people do not need to shout to communicate to the other end.
Waiter was good! Very attentive yet not too clingy. We were seated in a matter of 2 minutes. That's a huge plus!!
Great job all! I look forward to another fantastic brunch in the near future.
What to get? I use to get the Farmer's Breakfast. It's good, rich in the gravy department, but it's mostly carbs and not that much meat. You could get it with a side of sausages, but that might be overkill. I got their Berry Pancakes once, but the berry mix was too sweet for me, the pancakes were good though. Then was feeling in an Eggs Benedict mood, and decided on one of those options; it wasn't what I expected, but the pouched eggs was delicious and well cooked.
All the brunch options appear to be lacking greens, so it can be difficult to choose. Now I just get the basics, scrambled eggs, side of sausage, and either a pancake side or the french toast with no fruit. It's a good balance and a typical breakfast. I usually just come here when I don't want to make breakfast, have a craving for pancakes in the afternoon, or need to carb load. There's plenty of seating compared to other brunch spots in the immediate area, and if you're riding solo then world is your oyster. Overall, it's okay, don't come here expecting phenomenal or creative food. It can be a good fail-safe on your brunch list.
I love the pancake here. It is crunchy outside, soft inside and … healthy in the sense that not much oil was used to cook it.
We order farmer's breakfast, breakfast wrap and lox with poached egg. They were all good but do no have anything special.
This is fast becoming one of my favorite "work from home" cafes in Jersey City. There's always plenty of room to park a laptop amongst the mommies and glitterati that while away their weekdays sipping lattes and nibbling muffins.
Another bonus is the all-day breakfast which will always hold a place that's near and dear to my heart. I love the lattes, I like the food. The people watching is a dream and in the warmer months they have one of the biggest patios in Jersey City. Plus it's BYOB should you care to "make it Irish" like Fun Bobby.
Well this is a big place with a nice view of the street through the large glass windows. The menu has a good selection for brunch, lots of egg dishes. I had an egg sandwich on challah which was good but they had to make it over as I had requested goat cheese and not American. The service also wasn't great even though they weren't that busy.
The food itself was good but nothing special.
