I came here for brunch. The crawfish andouille grits was OK – it could've used more flavor. The biscuits were slightly dry. The fried okra was pretty good. The deviled eggs and the Jezebel chicken wings were good. The chicken fried chicken was ok. Overall, I was pretty disappointed with the food considering the high ratings.
Though I wouldn't give everything I've tried from BeeHive a full five stars, the business as a whole definitely deserves it because (1) I know that there are plenty of things on the menu that I absolutely love and don't need to be a fan of every single dish, and (2) with the service and ambiance it's just the perfect neighborhood spot and I love them.
On to the food…
– Complimentary fresh veggies with buttermilk sauce they give you at the beginning of your meal. It's a tasty but light snack so you don't completely fill up before your food gets there.
– Fried green tomatoes: such a perfect app to get in this sweet southern-themed spot! Freshly fried with delicious sauce on the side. Terrific!
– Deviled eggs: They came two to a serving and were tasty enough though not super memorable.
– The Moselle: I am so glad I went with this. The biscuit, fried egg, fried chicken, and hot sauce are a pretty fool-proof combo and totally worked as a sandwich.
– The Charlotte: This is more like a soupy pot-pie filling type thing on top of biscuits. It personally wasn't my favorite but it certainly was hearty and comforting, great for a cold day. I just like to eat my biscuits drier, I guess.
– Plum biscuit pudding (seasonal special): I love plum, I love biscuits, and I love bread pudding, so I thought this was a shoo-in, but alas I wasn't blown away… maybe it was too drenched in caramel and other sweetness? Maybe it was too soggy? Not sure.
– I also recently received a jar of their pear vanilla spread as a gift and couldn't eat it because the vanilla smell was totally overwhelming to the point where it kind of tasted and smelled like medicine.
The great definitely outweighs the not-so-great, and like I said the restaurant and the service is just so pleasant that I can't wait to go back again and again.
We actually found this place via Yelp last night and decided to check it out today during our afternoon in Brooklyn.
The food, service, ambiance, menu selection… EVERYTHING was amazing.
Great find when we've been eating nothing but burgers and pizza all week during our trip to NYC.
You can get all different flavors of mimosas. They have cute theme days too like Taco Tuesdays, Waffle Wednesdays and Fish Fry Fridays. Check out their Instagram page for even more food pics.
Definitely a little hidden gem.
Oh beehive I had such high hopes and expectations from you, and I was so disappointed. Having just come back from Austin, I was on a delicious food high. I had missed it and wanted some good Texan food. So when I was told that the owners were Texans and this place had somehow gotten the state if Texas to declare them an extension or something like that, ( sorry I definitely didn't explain that properly) I was psyched to go there. So we drobe into Brooklyn with high hopes and empty bellies. I got the fried chicken and waffles, and Mac and cheese. My husband and I got a chicken buiscuit with a fried egg to share as an app. My husband got the pot pie. They started us off with some veggies with their buttermilk ranch. Now the ranch was the highlight of our night. Nothing else came close. The waffle was OK, the fried chicken was not fried chicken, it looked like 5 chicken nuggets. And so bland that I'd honestly rather eat McDonald's chicken nuggets. The biscuit was nothing like what I had in Texas. It was heavy and not very flavorful. The pot pie, once again, bland. I was sorely disappointed because nothing was flavorful like the food we had in Texas. Maybe they were having a bad day, because the reviews definitely didn't hold up for us. Now our search continues for good Texan food in NY…
FRIED CHICKEN FRIED CHICKEN FRIED CHICKEN AND BISCUITS!!!!
I have not had any biscuits better than the ones here. Not sure what magic ingredients they added in there but they were SO GOOD.
this review is for their brunch only
I came here for brunch with my fried chicken lover (we try to go to all the fried chicken places in the city btw) and she recommended this place after she's been for dinner.
We came on a sunday afternoon at around 1/130. Put our name down and waited for about 30 mins which was not bad for williamsburg. Got seated at the bar area and munched away.
I got the pear lemonade which was a bit on the sweet side. and my friend had their mimosa with pear. which was real good!
Main course.
I ordered the chicken 'fried chicken' ($18) off the brunch men. came with a piece of fried chicken tender. which was very crisp! and mushroom gravy with mash potatoes YUMM!! + a biscuit to go with. portion was pretty huge so i was full off this and could not hold any more dessert. the fried chicken is very well battered with spice and was very crispy and not soggy at all. which i like.
My friend had the French Quarter ($15) – which comes in a biscuit sandwich with egg and gravy inside. This was real good thing.
All I can say is that you can't go wrong if you order biscuits here. and it's def a must get! great place to get your southern food fix!! i would come back for their dinner menu as there are more options to choose from than brunch.
Service was attentive and a cute little joint! can't wait to be back again!!
Happy my friend and I discovered this place in Brooklyn! Super cute, intimate southern style cuisine. If you love thick, buttery grits, you need to try this place out. Seriously some good grits! They also have good biscuits and homemade jelly which you can buy from the restaurant.
Even better: they offer $3 mimosas with your first Yelp check in & my oh my is it one STRONG mimosa. I'm talking light-skin, barely any OJ, mostly champagne mimosa (my type of place).
I'm rating 4 over 5 stars only because the space was very very small which causes a long wait and although the food is very good, it didn't trump the Southern food I've had in the South. I still look forward to going back though.
I dont know if i was starving or what when I came here. But the food is delicious!!!! I came here with my sister and friend for brunch we all got eggs chicken grits the biscuit and ice tea. FYI the ice tea is definitely not sweet lol. The chicken is delicious one piece isnt enough and the grits werent milky they were just right. with the biscuit they give you different kinds of jelly to try with it. Too me all the jelly's were good lol. The staff are nice and attentive. If your a chocolate lover ask to see if they have the triple chocolate cake that day OMG!!!!!!…Thank me later
good place to enjoy simply good comfort food. the menu is relatively simple and they also have daily specials. everything is served a la carte style and you can get large side orders to share. I liked the nettie (fried chicken, bacon lettuce, and buttermilk dressing on a biscuit) with apple raisin slaw, mac n cheese, chicken fried steak, and the desserts. we got a carried away with ordering the yelp drink specials so the bill got a little crazy, but otherwise, I would definitely go back.
