Bella Lena’s

“I order lunch from this place like 3 times a week off of grubuhb for me and my coworkers and they deliver fast and the food is out of this world .”

“Although it was early in the day the place was pretty busy so I would think reservations for dinner.”

“I ordered the Fioretti Boscaiola – little pasta pockets filled with cheese (not terribly unlike tortellini) in a decadent pink sauce – incredible!”

  1. I was thrilled to see that such a highly rated Italian restaurant was willing to deliver to me through Grubhub. Me and my roommate had to pay a $4 delivery fee because we're so far, but it's nice to know that we have options in the area, because prior to finding Bella Lena's we just didn't.

The food came quicker than Grubhub estimated it would, and it was piping hot despite how far we were.

I ordered the pumpkin, marscarpone and sage ravioli with shallots and mushrooms in a brandy cream sauce. My mouth was watering just from reading the description. It was very rich (in a good way) and while it was the highlight of our dinner, it didn't really wow me the way I was expecting.

I tried my roommates Cappellini Primavera. The vegetables were cooked nicely, but Cappellini is a very thin pasta and I wish it had been cooked al dente. I don't mind slightly over-cooked pasta, but this was mushy. The pink sauce it came in was slightly creamy, and they put just enough of it that with the super soft pasta, the consistency of the dish was sort of paste like. The sauce itself was on the bland side.

The meatballs were really disappointing. I don't know if they use a pork/beef mixture, because this tasted like completely unseasoned ground beef rolled into a ball. There were no onions, no herbs, no nothing in these babies. The sauce they were was similarly bland. I took one bite and put them aside.

I would be willing to try different dishes from them in the future, but probably not for a little while. I have noticed some other reviewers commenting on the lack of seasoning and flavor in their dishes, so I would probably gravitate towards things that are more complex to begin with, like the pumpkin ravioli, as opposed to a simple tomato sauce.

  2. For a minute or two, I honestly thought that the reviews for this place might be too good to be true. Rusty, his father and I walked by this place on a Friday evening and it was pretty empty and their greeting was pretty weak (we were instructed to sit anywhere).

However, once this really nice lady came over and started reciting the specials and joking around with us, I felt much better about Bella Lena's…not to mention that the food is so delicious!

Definitely get the burrata. Dang, it was so delicious and fresh tasting. Served with sautéed mushrooms. Simple, yet a rich and decadent way to start your meal.

I ordered the carbonara and it was an amazing dish! No lack of creamy, thick sauce and yummy salty bacon! You can never go wrong with a good carbonara.

Rusty ordered one of the signature dishes (the seafood dish on the cover of the menu). I don't know how one person could finish all of that food! This is definitely something to be shared with at least one or two other people. Full of scallops, calamari and other delicious seafood.

For dessert we had cheesecake. We also shared a bottle of wine.

I love this place. Although it's very small and certainly not big on frills, it certainly satisfies any craving that you'll have for good food and good service. A must try! This will definitely be my new go-to Italian place.

  3. We got this for take out for dinner near my house.  Ordered the following:

Sauteed Spinach – Cant really go wrong with this, I enjoyed this a lot, but I love spinach!

Fettuccine Pesto w/  House Salad with Lemon Vinaigrette – I thought I would love this dish but there was not much pesto at all in this dish, was disappointed with that.  The salad is simple with the lemon Vinaigrette is a good combination, but nothing special.  However, I was not aware that there would be small cheese bits added to the dish and as a result I just did not enjoy eating this at all.  (I don't enjoy eating cheese)

It is probably my fault and should have specified not to have any cheese, but I didn't see that cheese was in the dish when I saw the description of the dish.

The place was pretty empty when I went into the restaurant to pick up the order, but it was pretty early (around 6pm on Sunday)

  4. This past weekend, I had a death in the family, and with the influx of relatives coming through my relatives house during the wake, the first round of food sent to us from Pizza Classica went very quickly. For the second day, we called Bella Lena's to coordinate a delivery and save some time, and we were very happy with the food and the service.

The order arrived as planned when we got back from the funeral parlor. We received trays of their green salad, Chicken Scarpariello, and Floretti Boscaiola. It was a great survey of their offerings, and among the three everyone managed to find something they could enjoy.

We picked the place over PC again for the sake of variety, and I'd say their entrées are definitely in the same league. I don't often find myself this far along Metropolitan Ave, but I'd venture out again for the food.
