This "steak house" calls itself the Belle Harbor Diner, and that's how it's known to the locals. When I searched for "diner" on yelp, I was steered to the Rockaways Diner across the street, which closed some time ago. Although this latter establishment is now an empty storefront (for rent), the Belle Harbor Whatever was hopping! It was only with some effort that I managed to wedge myself in past the line of customers waiting for tables and make my way to the bar in the back to order takeout.
Twenty minutes later I emerged with bags full of good food: steak, fish, pasta, salad, soup, rolls, crackers, and on and on. A tip: you can order by phone and pick up your food when it's ready or ask for delivery (as long as you live within three miles of 116th Street).
By Rockaway standards, this place rates a 5! On a global scale, it's more like a 3. This explains my four-star rating, which incidentally seems to be the average rating for the diner. It needs to be pointed out that the staff and owner are incredibly charming and accommodating. The dining room was full of happy, pampered customers on the day that I visited. Highly recommended!
My friend and I went to Belle Harbor Diner for a late breakfast and I was surprised at the service and food. The waitresses were very accommodating and friendly.
I ordered an egg white omelette with peppers and onions with a side of sausage. My omelette was a bit on the burnt side which I did not like, and my sausage was kind of burnt.
They leave a small pot of coffee on the table so that you can continue to refill your coffee as wanted. The bill was really cheap, considering we got 2 breakfast meals that were generously sized, and coffee.
I would go back if I was in the area.
A diner that is mere steps away from the Shuttle train- last stop Beach 116th Street and from Tribute Park, the September 11th memorial.
After a very short time at Jacob Riis Park, party of two worked an appetite. We ate our fill to:
Turkey burger deluxe with French Fries and cold slaw
Hamburger deluxe with French Fries and cold slaw
One Sauvignon blanc wine
My turkey burger tasted okay but rather dry. Service is attentive as we were seated indoors immediately and our waitress constantly inquired if we were okay. Tables and booths are available in a diner setting. Business card is available at the maître d' hostess table.
Note: Free delivery to Breezy Point, Roxbury and Broad Channel only. No deliveries into mainland Queens.
