Spotting the place: bumped onto in on the way to the Top of the Rock. When decided to go back and get the ice cream, it was a bit of a challenge! It's a maze down there, with narrow passage and SO MANY people walking around.
Variety: I think there were 20 different flavours, a good number.
Size: the cups are look small, the waffle cones are OK. The scoops are quite generous.
Taste: The lemon sorbet was nice, the mango was good and the Americone Dream wasAWESOME (could easily empty the bucket, go to the hospital and come back for more). The waffle cone was also fantastic, fresh-tasty-crispy.
Price: Outrageous!
Conclusion: I would definitely eat Ben & Jerry's, but I would never pay for it again! The ice cream in very nice, but hurt in the pocket!
April 12, 2016 is FREE CONE DAY!!! Thank you Ben & Jerry's! Success! I did get my Free scoop in a cup–the Rockefeller Center, lower concourse shop had run out of cones. That's ok, I loved my free scoop, in a cup. I appreciated it very much after a day of work.
The very long line moved amazingly FAST!! Kudos to the very nice Ben & Jerry's staff, who made sure the shop NEVER FELT CROWDED. AMAZING ACCOMPLISHMENT!!
And BIG THANKS to the Rockefeller Center uniformed lobby staff who were FANTASTIC, posted every few FEET along the very long lines. Those very nice uniformed, Lobby staff men and women kept things in check–orderly, peaceful, & moving along very, very, quickly!!! I have never seen such a WELL ORGANIZED, EXTREMELY LONG LINE MOVE SO FAST & IN SUCH A WONDERFULLY FRIENDLY & PEACEFUL WAY–THE POWER OF ICE CREAM!!!–THE BLISS OF FREE ICE CREAM!!!
THE YUMMY ICE CREAM /FROZEN DESSERT DETAILS:
See my photos to see what the FIRST EVER, BEN & JERRY'S NON-DAIRY (!!!) FROZEN DESSERT PINTS LOOK LIKE. This scoop shop had one of the non-dairy flavors available & that was my choice for FREE SCOOP. I enjoyed the "P. B. & Cookies" Non Dairy frozen dessert. It's not called ice cream because it's made with ALMOND MILK. It was DELICIOUS!!! I will be buying a pint of that, for sure. About a month ago, I asked Whole Foods East 57th St to please order the 4 NON DAIRY FLAVORS, & I showed them the same non-dairy photo I've posted here. (I love a good visual…helps to remember).
So, how'd I know about the NEW, FIRST EVER, B&J (4) Non-Dairy Frozen Desserts? I am a long-time subscriber to B&J "CHUNK MAIL". Worth signing up for. About a month ago B&J sent me a surprise, cool promotional announcement via U. S. Mail. That's how I received the 4-flavor square, colorful card showing detailed Non-Dairy Pints. I also received two FREE pints, via 2 coupons tucked inside the lovely, empty pint of a non-dairy flavor. Yes, B&J spent $$$ sending out these FUN, boxes with goodies inside. So far, I have tried the Chunky Monkey NON-DAIRY, & thanks to Free Cone Day, I tried "P.B. & Cookies" Non-Dairy. BOTH EXCELLENT!!! FLAVORFUL, and with chunks of goodness. REALLY, REALLY GOOD!!! My first choice–the New, Non-Dairy flavors.
TIP–consider signing up for Chunk Mail. I received an email from Ben & Jerry's telling me about FREE CONE DAY, & asking me to RSVP.
As I mentioned, I went after work to try for my free scoop, and a coworker joined me–it was fun & laughs. My friend enjoyed a scoop of one of my favorites–"COFFEE COFFEE BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ. She loved it. This is an EXTREMELY HARD TO FIND FLAVOR IN SUPERMARKETS. Scoop shops have it. If you ever see it, buy it! You'll love it!
You scream, I scream, WE ALL SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM….Enjoy! Try a Non-Dairy flavor too.
I've been frequenting this location a lot lately as its conveniently located in my building. I have been ordering cakes from here for all of my coworkers bdays, going away parties etc. I must say I've never had a bad experience.
The Americone dream cake is AMAZING, you must try it. The customer service is even better. Everytime I call and place an order it's ready and waiting when I get there. Today, I dint have time to call and place an order but needed something to bring to the office potluck so I went in really quick and got a quart of sorbet. I was very indecisive and the associate was so patient and gave me samples of everything until I finally figured out what I wanted to order.
The store is clean, the line moves very quickly and there are lots of cute little nick nacks you may purchase at the register.
The only reason I'm not giving this store 5 stars is because I find the pricing to be a little bit high. A medium sized cake, plates and forks cost close to $50 and I think it's worth much less. However, I know that's a company thing and not a store issue but I still wish they can work on their pricing.
FYI- get the mango sorbet, it's delicious!
Cute little Ben and Jerry's inside the Rockefeller Center. We decided to try their ice cream while waiting to go up the Top of the Rock tour. They have such a wide and wild selection on their menu. We finally decided to have a brown topped with coconut pecan ice cream, hm hm good! The crispness of the ice cream balances out the gooey sweetness of the brownie perfectly, it was like a party in my mouth! At first I was like, I don't want any, but after one bite, I was like, ALL MINEEEEE!
Weird location underground at Rockefeller Plaza, but they've got great flavors and very fresh waffle and sugar cones. The store is pretty tiny and you aren't really able to see the flavors until after you order, so make sure you scope them out on your way in!
When I saw the Ben & Jerry store listed on the map at the Rockefeller Center I couldn't have been more excited. Firstly, the employees were really friendly & were helping everyone out. We got a core sundae to share & it was absolutely delicious. It consisted of a couple of ice-creams of our choice with hot fudge, whipped cream, and a cherry on top. I'd say that it's a bit expensive but the perfect fit for someone looking for a sweet treat.
This is my second complaint that I sent to their corporate headquarters. I hope they're keeping track. This time what should have been a pleasant free scoop of ice cream for my birthday turned very bad quickly.
1. Printing coupons is outdated and costly. I don't have a printer. The coupon is beautiful vibrant colors that cost a small fortune in ink. My daughter gets very upset when I ask her to print. I spent $45 for a new cartridge to make peace with her.
2. If the headquarters keeps records they would know they had a shop on East 86 street. That was at least 10 years ago. I've been trying to get that location taken out of YELP. The phone number is for a mental health group home owned by Postgraduate Center for Mental Health.
Keeping that in mind, I travel all the way from UES to Rockefeller Center Shop for ice cream. I purchase pints like crazy. I am a good customer.
3. Then this happens: I go in with my "birthday" coupon (this past Friday 12th of Feb) to the shop in Rockefeller Center. I'm turned away suspected of duplicating my coupon. Why can't the use be verified when you're keeping a hand written paper log book. Because I had the buy one get one free in November for my 6 mo. Chunk mail anniversary, I was told I already got my free scoop! How hard is it to scan or enter the bar code??!! It is because the technology is outdated. I was trying to give him my ID to prove it's my birthday. I tried to show him my current email! No luck.
4. NEXT; I was told to come back the manager is supposed to be in soon!!. When I returned not only was the manager there but someone from Vermont corporate office. Once again the store manager made me think my coupon had already been used by someone. They would have had to hack my computer or Internet. Then I was made to feel like he was doing me a favor by letting me have the free scoop this time. He said he would eat the cost. Please! The mgr gave my coupon to the Ben and Jerry corporate rep and said to show it to the people at headquarters. I certainly hope he did. They need to look at my reviews on Yelp. I'm the top Yelper at that location. It has gone downhill since I joined the email club.
5. If my identity is compromised I'll know where it happened. He took my drivers license to check my birthday. I don't know what else might be written in their PAPER log book for all to see. A bday treat of a dollar coupon off a pint and send it in the mail would be better. At least I can go to the store and get a pint. I'm spending over $5 for the train to go to midtown! Plus I'm divulging my personal information that they are keeping in an insecure manner.
End of story. Thanks to all my Yelper friends for cheering up my birthday. I won't bother you with my Ben and Jerry's stories, tips or pictures any more. I hope:-) I'll check the likes. You may enjoy my hot Italian temper. 🙂
I wish they would just do away with these promotions. I'm too embarrassed to go back to the shop. I was livid. They treated me like I am stupid and a cheater.
How could you even charge for extra cups for students on a class field trip? This is beyond me. I have never interacted with a business that would take advantage of students with autism during a class trip. Of all the places that I have visited, the businesses were always eager to give my students something for free. We were buying ice cream for goodness sakes!!
