  1. Went here for a business lunch and I was very pleased.  

    Benjamin's is your usual NYC steakhouse so there wasn't any surprises in terms of décor or menu options but since I loves my steak I wasn't bothered by it.  

    The only negative I can think of is when upon seating the waiter took our drink orders and I ordered an unsweetened ice tea.  Whenever I order an unsweetened tea at a restaurant they always bring the sweeteners on the side but not here.  He didn't even ask if I wanted sweet n low, splenda, sugar or whatever.

    For appetizer I ordered the Benjamin salad – organic greens, red onion, crab meat and apple.  Can you say delicious!  The greens were crisp, the crab and red onion was a nice complement and the dressing wasn't too heavy.

    For entrée I had the rib eye steak.  OMG was it good!  First of all it was cooked just the way I like it (Medium) kudos for getting it right – a lot of steakhouses over cook it so that it's more medium well than medium.  It was also very well seasoned – I wish I could have taken it home so that I could pick it up with my hands and gnaw at it caveman style – lol!!  It was accompanied with grilled cauliflower and potatoes.  

    While I didn't have dessert (I was too stuffed and didn't want to fall asleep at my desk), I said to myself that I HAVE to come back again – hopefully they will participate in Restaurant Week.

  2. I purposely ate sparingly little ALL day just so I could eat here. I came here last night for a business dinner with a party of 7. We were seated in the far back corner of the restaurant in a small circular booth. At first the seating seemed small, but actually the closeness of our party created a very nice intimate vibe. Prior to coming here I was craving steak for about 2 weeks.

    We started off with a glass of prosecco and the options of still and sparkling water. We then ordered the Chateau from Margaux red wine which was very well bodied but without bitterness. Definitely one of my favorite red wines. We then ordered some appetizers to start. We got the jumbo shrimp 6 piece, crab cakes and buffalo mozzarella. All of the appetizers were delicious, but our absolute favorite was the crab cakes. I would seriously come back for lunch just to eat the crab cakes again haha.

    For our main dish, we ordered sirloin, filet mignon and ribeye steak to share with the side dishes of Benjamin home fries, creamless creamed spinach, broccoli and mushrooms. We ordered all the steak at medium rare, my absolute favorite was the ribeye steak. It had a lot of flavor, was juicy and tender and had that melt in your mouth type of feeling. The sirloin and filet mignon were also delicious, but not as memorable for me as the ribeye steak. As for the side dishes, the mushrooms and creamed spinach were great choices. We were recommended the Benjamin home fries from our wonderful waiter, which actually turns out to be their in house tater tots, but I would have had to rate them as average for my own taste because it was a little mushy and personally wasn't very memorable for me. The broccoli came in giant florets and were also a great choice to balance the meat and veggies of our dish.

    WE didn't stop there though, for dessert I ended up getting the NY Cheesecake and my sister ordered the Carrot cake. The Cheesecake was good, it had a nice amount of sweetness to balance my sugar craving and cream for texture, but after taking a bite of my sister's carrot cake I wished I had ordered that instead.

    Overall, I would definitely come back here again and definitely reordered the Chateau Margaux red wine, crab cakes, ribeye steak, creamless creamed spinach, mushrooms and carrot cake. Either way if you come here you won't go wrong.

    Ambiance – Very loud, dim lighting, intimate setting.
    Layout – Many small tables located around the main seating area with a bar right when you walk in. Bathroom is located near the front desk down a flight of stairs and then down a small hallway.
    Food – Excellent! Most of my review is up above.
    Service – Excellent, our waiter was very patient with us and recommended us some delicious dishes for us to try out. He also made several jokes with us and made us feel very comfortable. Whenever we had any requests, he was there to help us out and recommend foods and explain dishes.

The Porterhouse is wonderful in this Peter Luger-like Manhattan steakhouse.  It is smaller, and more intimate than most NYC steakhouses in spite of the very loud atmosphere.  The ribeye was also nice with their great steak sauce.  The creamed spinach was top notch, but German fried potatoes were a bit too dry for my taste.  I did enjoy Benjamin's but would not place it in the upper tier of NYC steakhouses.

  4. Well…   The fun continues.  Back for a dinner which was superb.  The evening could not have been better and our guests really got to see an authentic NY steakhouse experience.

  5. Doesn't get much better than this place. Service is spectacular, food is over the top delicious and atmosphere is chic. The minute you walk in the staff is tending to your every need. Taking your coat for checking, guiding you to your table, ready to work for you.

    Benny D. our waiter was excellent. He made great recommendations, explained the specials and even helped us pick out a bottle of wine that suited everyone at the table. When I explained how I liked my Filet Mignon and he made sure it came out just the way I wanted it.

    The bacon appetizer can definitely be shared by two. The sides are said to be family style, which we assumed would be quite large however it seemed as though they could only be shared by 2 or 3 ppl max.

    This is great place to come if you are really trying to WOW someone.

  6. Have you ever stood in perfect sun light just basking in its warm glow? That is the same expression I made when I bit into the lump crab cake appetizer. As a long term Rhode Islander I am looking for quality and round 1 was home run!

    I am getting ahead of myself though. The ambiance and all around experience was supreme. From lighting, to service and professionalism, they were firing on all cylinders. The staff were all point.

    The feast de resistance did not impress me the way that I thought it would. This is my reasoning for 4 stars. I had the filet, which was not anything incredible. My wife had the ribeye and that was presented and tasted far better. Mine was more tender, but hers was the much better dish. Our sides were the spinach and the asparagus. The spinach was creamy and flavorful. The asparagus had a nice crunch and well seasoned.

    Bottom line, I def recommend! It will check your wallet and run your pockets, but hey, Bon appétit!!

Benjamin Steakhouse is one of those places in NYC I normally wouldn't go probably due to the $$$$ on yelp, but there's something to be said about taking the time to go to a steakhouse right in the heart of Manhattan and enjoying a steak with the upper echelons of New York. We came here on a Monday night and were seated in the back and overall, the meal took over 3 hours, so you know it's good.

    FOOD: Filet Mignon. Red Wine. Salad. Vegetables. New York Cheesecake. A perfect medium rare and cook on the filet mignon with the right amount of pink in the middle. Perfectly seasoned with the right amount of salt and black pepper as well. The vegetables on the side, broccoli and asparagus, were sauted to perfection and the portion size is pretty good for one individual. The pace of the meal was also done correctly here, where you do not feel your food comes so late/early. I highly recommend the Fliet Mignon or the Ribeye (the ribeye looks enormous), but everybody at dinner enjoyed the food!

    SERVICE: The service was pretty standard, nothing extraordinary, but definitely not poor.

    Definitely a place to treat yourself to in NYC! It is what I would describe as a traditional New York/Manhattan kind of atmosphere of dimly lit, business suit, business-talk, kind of environment.

  8. Really solid steak. Came here for a birthday dinner and was amazed by the decor and classiness of the place. It wasn't showdy and screaming steakhouse for bankers especially for its location in the midtown area. I got the steak for two which was a combination of filet mignon and porterhouse which was amazing. They cooked it just right to my medium rare order and it wasn't too chewy or tough. The meat was also full of flavor and had a nice char to it. I also got the cream less creamed spinach on the side which was a perfect complement to the red meat main course.
