Bennigan’s

“they have so many beers the choose from and they are all $3-$5 if you go during happy hour or after 10pm.”

“The onion ring tower is fantastic, as are their chicken quesadillas and wangs.”

“Similar to a Houlihan's or TGI Friday's style of food, but with a slight Irish twist (different names, etc.)

The bartenders are GORGEOUS.”

  1. Unless you're living under a rock somewhere, you know that North Jersey has no shortage of Irish themed chain restaurants. Most are pretty good and offer solid value and decent food. Years ago, Bennigan's was one of these who I would have placed near the very bottom of the list. Food was blah, as were drinks, service and just about everything else.

Well folks, I am happy to report that they have returned, resurrected from the dead and a whole hell of a lot better. Of all the chains, premium restaurants like Shannon Rose excluded, Bennigan's is near the top. I even like them more than Houlihan's or TGI Friday's where dinner and a couple of drinks would easily cost you double, if not more.

I went there last night with my older son. Unbeknownst to us, it was happy hour. When I got the check, it was really happy hour. 2 entrees and 2 beers…..drum roll please….$22.00. Really? Really!

Food is good, they have an extensive drink menu and something like 20 beers on tap. They also have attentive service, a comfortable outdoor seating area and a massive bar. Whether you're just looking for good cheap food and rather nice atmosphere or want to have a few drinks while watching a game, Bennigan's should be high on your list. They are on mine.

  2. OMG when was the last time you had Bennigan's?  Yup me too…it was that long ago!

I was so excited to come!  They had all the famous signature dishes…broccoli bites (these got bigger and really enjoyed them with their famous honey mustard taste like dipping sauce), MONTE CRISTO (tasted the same and very very heavy), Turkey O'toole (so disappointing…pretzel bun was bleh, taste was off), death by chocolate cake (was so full from that monte cristo so didn't get it booooo).

I DID NOT like their cheeseburger pub bites….omg I would rather have a Wendy's burger.  Sweet potatoe fries were decent.

So overall it wasn't the same.  The look is different.  They had 2 pool tables…yah weird.  And the service was slowwwww.  It took forever to get utensils.

Would I come back?  I doubt it.  Those monte cristos will make you feel like you gained 5 lbs lol.  They do have good happy hour specials.

  3. So today, the commissioner of my softball league decided to host a get together with the league here after our games today. Personally, this was my first time visiting this establishment.
In general, they have a large parking lot. They have both outdoor and indoor seating. The indoor was nice and cool and the outside tables had umbrellas.
The Bartending staff was also extremely nice and pleasant.
When it comes to the food, of course I wasn't expecting the best, however, there is room for much needed improvement here.
All of the food was extremely greasy, I can say this because we tried a bunch of appetizers. The buffalo chicken wings were overly breaded, the sliders had oil dripping from them (also had no flavor), the onion rings were decent but 'greasy', the chicken quesadillas were pretty good but still somewhat 'greasy' and the guacamole was not as fresh as it could have been, and the potato skins were decent, however, they were pretty dry.
The wait staff also brought us all this food, without giving us any utensils or plates to eat off of, which was kind of annoying until I asked for them to bring it.
I want to also mention, this place also has happy hour but it only consists of $2.00 coors draft, no other domestics.
All and all, I was not a fan of the food and the same goes for my teammates but it looks like this could be a pretty chill late night spot..lots of room, they have a decent craft beer collection and their drinks were nice and strong.

  4. Came here for happy hour and this place looks really nice, big space and outdoor seating a bonus.  FYI this review is only based on drinks.

So they have two sizes for mixed cocktails, one shot or two. I thought that was pretty neat.  The outdoors has a fire pit and a good amount of tables to sit at or push together.  The inside has tons of seating booths, tables, and high tops. Large square bar as well.

I must say the floor was disgusting we kept getting our shoe stuck any time we tried to move.  The bathrooms smelled and they were located right next to the kitchen.  Either they don't clean well or they are going for that type look. Either way it was gross.

The only time I'd come back is if we were doing happy hour with coworkers again, other than that I really wouldn't be making my way here.

  5. We've now been here twice and I really don't think we will be going back, maybe for a drink, but not to eat!

First off, we walked in and that "dirty bar rag" smell hits you right in the face! Gross, once you get past that smell and unstick your shoes from the floor, order a drink, you're going to need one.  The last time my husband and I were here, we walked in, no one was at the hostess stand, finally after 3 waiters walked by the fourth finally told us "yeah sit wherever". So we grabbed our own menus and sat ourselves down. We each got a sandwich, beer and fries.  The food – mediocre!

If you're looking for a cheap happy hour go for it, if you looking for a quick bite and don't really care how it taste, go for it.

  6. I actually never heard of this chain until I saw it on here looking for a happy hour place in the area. I went with 3 other girls for a late happy hour/dinner. The deals were pretty good, although we just ended up getting a beer tower (which is the same price happy hour or not). It was $30 for a 100oz tower. We actually asked for the 60oz but I guess they decided not to listen to our request. Whatever, thats not a big deal.

Our waiter was super nice, he dealt with our pickiness for which beer to get. Each of us has different taste, so you see where thats a problem right? He gave us as many samples as we wanted and eventually we settled for the Brooklyn Summer.

As for the food, we got the wings, the quesadilla, and the nachos. All were part of the happy hour deal i believe. The quesadilla was delicious, the chicken was so flavorful! It was kind of small though. The nachos were standard and the wings were okay, wouldn't get them again. I would come back for the other items on the menu however, they looked delicious. But maybe not again for the happy hour.

On thursdays, they have an outdoor DJ on the patio. It gave it the happy hour vibe for sure. Great place for groups as well!

  7. WOW. I was awed by Bennigan's revamp. I truly wish I gave Bennigan's a second chance sooner!

I used to go to Bennigan's as a kid when it was completely run down. I never even considered going there again until my friends convinced me to.

The building and decor is gorgeous; it doesn't even belong on Midland Ave. However, once you're seated in the restaurant, you don't even notice the "ugly" surrounding area. I adored the outdoor seating. It's a hidden gem!

Although I wasn't drinking, my table LOVED their Irish Car Bombs. To our surprise, the fries were some of the best we've ever had!

The food was "chain" quality, but still very good. The prices were reasonable as well.

I'm looking forward to going back for happy hour!

  8. I took my mom here for dinner yesterday for Dominican Mother's Day and was hugely disappointed! We ordered their version of a shepherds pie, terrible! the meat was so uncooked it was inedible! Then we had their ribs which was boiled and not grilled also a bad choice! I do have to say, my glass of Little Black Dress Cabernet was delicious! Maybe the Irish like their meat undercooked in that case, enjoy! I'll pass.
