Great knishes & sandwiches. Personal favorite is the hot pastrami, chopped liver, rye bread. They are pretty much on point with all things associated with a Jewish deli. I freaking love Jewish deli pickles, I could eat them all day. My only complaint is that it's a little expensive for what it is. The sandwich I named above is like $17, and although its stacked high, I'm not sure it warrants that price tag.
I arrived at laguardia airport and went straight to Ben's Kosher. I had a pastrami sandwich on rye bread with spicy mustard and a sour pickle. It was delicious!
Love this place! Their Matzoh ball chicken noodle soup is my cure all when it comes to hang overs, colds and whatever else ails me. Their stuff Derma is tasty as well as their corn beef, pastrami and hard salami sandwiches. Potato pancakes need a little help though, for some reason everytime I've ordered them, they are really really heavy and a bit on the soggy side. Love their cole slaw and pickles that they dole out the minute you sit down too. My overall experience with the wait staff has been good. Sometimes a little slow depending on the age range that is serving you but still all done with a warm smile.
Interesting experience here..
the prices are up the wall crazy for what it is. Im from Long Island… and the smallest local Long Island jewish deli beats this place by a mile. The ordering conversation was relatively awkward and we felt like we were asking for the wrong things.
It took about 20 minutes to get our food….no one was in there… and we ordered a tuna sandwich and an omelet. Not sure what the hold up was
When we got our food…$23 later… we were given partially the wrong order.
eh.
While I usually go to the Ben's in Carle Place (yelp.com/biz/bens-kosher…), as I like it and it is the closest location to my home, I found myself at the Ben's in Bayside yesterday as my good friend invited me to visit him in his neck of the woods and we both agreed that Ben's would be a good place to have lunch based on past experience. After entering this Ben's located in the large Bay Terrace Shopping Center, we were greeted by Barbara, a very sweet hostess who was happy to seat us and invited us to sit wherever we wanted, which worked to our advantage as it was not too crowded. As we were heading in, I noticed that this Ben's looked older than the one by my house, but still very clean and at the same time, the nostalgia, like the large take-out counter, old-style analog clock, and neon Ben's sign added to the atmosphere. We opted to sit at a booth located on the step-up portion of the dining room and near the skylight, which let the sunshine in just like the musical Hair. After we sat down, we were greeted by our waitress, Maria. She was very friendly and throughout the meal, we found her to be efficient and on-point! While my friend was not really hungry as he had a little bit of my food and noshed on some pickles, which were salty, sour, and tangy, making for an excellent start! Feeling hungry, I decided to order the Turkey Platter, which comes with your choice of potato and vegetable of the day, so I opted for Mashed Potatoes and Broccoli and I opted for a Diet Dr. Brown's Black Cherry to drink. About fifteen minutes after I ordered, I received my large meal, which was delicious, with moist and tender turkey, fluffy and salty mashed potatoes, and well cooked broccoli. The meal was $19.49, which is pricey at the face, however, being that the food is kosher as well as the high quality and large portion size, I understand why Ben's charges a little more. Overall, I would definitely return to Ben's in Bayside when I am in the mood for solid kosher deli food in the Bayside area!
Ben's has always been a go-to for knishes, pickles, pastrami sandwiches and in the case of this past St. Paddy's day, corned beef.
They are a very popular kosher deli and are great when you are in the mood for they type of food they have (such as mentioned above). They are, however, very pricey and since it is Kosher, no cheese on the sandwiches for you!!
Coming from NYC, it's hard to eat Jewish deli that's from a chain. That being said, it's a good place to go whenever I'm craving pastrami. Given the abundance of locations, it's easy to get my fix although its not Carnegie Deli or any of the other NYC fixtures. It's a step below those places but definitely better than other options to get my fix in Queens.
It's good.
My pastrami on rye wanted more meat. Maybe I'm just a greedy basta-d but every other sandwich looked like it had more meat than mine. I get it, it's a complex, one that I can't help. The gravy I got to coat my meat in was delicious.
The free pickles, especially the fresh ones, are awesome. Free cole slaw that's amazing.
Now I am going to order an entire pastrami from Katz!! Did you know you can do that? Seriously.
