Being born and raised in NY, but currently living in California, I have been deprived for the last 7 years because no one in Cali even knows what vodka sauce is. My favorite Italian dish is penne vodka, so you can imagine my suffering while living in Cali all those years. During my NY visits, I fulfill my need and eat it the whole trip. I have had penne vodka pizza before and it's always dry and weird. This place, however, puts only the vodka sauce on the pizza and I was in heaven!!!!! It was so good! Excellent service and vodka sauce pizza!
Were this place in any neighborhood besides Battery Park I don't think it would be getting 3.5 stars. The pizza by the slice often looks old and dried out. I know everyone raves about the Vodka Sauce Pizza, but I feel it's a little bland, even when ordered fresh. To me, this pizza is below average. Would I eat it again? Yeah, I guess I might if I had an intense craving for pizza and was already walking past. Would I go out of my way or order delivery? Never.
Yummy options for individual slices, although I've got to say that they MASTERED their cheese pizza. The sauce they use is a bit sweeter, and they use just enough cheese to avoid it becoming overly-greasy (aka, need to blotch). I started off with one slice and ended up buying two more. I'm definitely a fan!
This review is based only on 2 desserts.
I got the cannoli that was freshly stuffed with mascarpone filling after the order was placed. The shell was nice and crispy and complimented the sweet (but not too sweet) filling. I also love when the filling has chocolate chips!
We also tried the tiramisu. It comes in a bit of a small container, but it also was very good. The lady fingers soaked with just enough coffee and the filling was very smooth and creamy. I definitely would go back for some pretty delicious italian desserts. The establishment is run and owned by people from Italy so rest assured you are getting some authenticity.
I have had the pizza here based on other Yelper's reviews and I'm glad I gave it a try. Plain cheese was good and not too greasy or oily. I really liked the sausage which was delicious. Haven't tried the sandwiches but they looked damn good. Nice place tooled away from the tourists who plague this area. I like it and will be back.
Pretty average pizza…
They sell other Italian products as well in the form of meats and cheeses, but I haven't bought any of those products.
Great hot sandwiches, and Italian goodies and overall nice neighborhood Italian spot
So far I tried about 4 sandwiches here and they were all really good
My favorite by a long shot is the Veal with Vodka Sauce, tons of veal, flavorful sauce, and fresh hero bread.
First time around I ordered a cold calabria – chicken moz prosciutto
It was super fresh and they stacked that chicken and prosciutto sky high, that I hardly finished the second half in one sitting
They have tons of choices, from hot to cold sandwiches, antipastos, along with all the staple Italian dishes, and really good looking pizza which I have yet to try
