I arrived around 11:30AM thinking that I might be a little too early for lunch, but I noticed that they have a sign stating that their hours now start at 11AM. There was only one guy working at the time, so thankfully I was the only one in the shop! This is a grab-and-go type of sandwich place, so don't except full service or plentiful seating especially if you are visiting at peak hours.
They had a few interesting specials, but I ended up going with the chicken shnitzel. The chicken was deep-fried on the spot, and it was perfectly crispy on the outside and succulent on the inside! I loved the assortment of condiments and toppings that came on this particular sandwich. In particular, I think the relish lent a nice touch to the sandwich. Seriously, the chicken schnitzel sandwich is a must try!
Unfortunately, the prices are a bit steep for what you get. My sandwich cost me $10 and change and I was able to split it over two meals because I wasn't super hungry, but for that price I could probably get a full meal elsewhere! Also, in case you go hunting, there is no restroom on the premises.
This place affirmed that moving to Boerum Hill was a good move. Not only are the sandwiches huge, delicious, and made-to-order, but they're around $9 each.
That's $9 for sandwich stuffed with juicy short rib (that has been simmering all day), onion, pickled beets, and mustard. Get outta here. I'm also a big fan of the chicken schnitzel, and the BBQ chicken is in my future.
It's always empty when I go during dinner hours, which makes me feel sorry for everyone who doesn't know about it yet. I certainly don't mind waiting 10 minutes for them to make my sandwich.
Yesss, I found my new place to order from that delivers to my job! So yes, I work in downtown Brooklyn on Atlantic Ave. You might think, wow there's so many great food options… But not really, the good ones either don't deliver or too expensive for a time-to-time lunch meal. Here, at Bergen Dean Sandwich, a big delicious sandwich for $9 is not bad at all and something good and new for a change!
I called for delivery the other day to my job, and they arrived within 20 minutes or maybe even a little less. So far I've only tried the Chicken Schnitzel Sandwich; and boyyy it was pretty darn goood. The artisan bread was soft and fresh. It consisted of a nicely battered fried chicken… I usually don't like white meat but it was moist and good, with arugula, pesto, relish, roasted fennel and honey mustard. I'm a fan of having arugula with anything, so the bitterness from the arugula and pesto balanced very well with the honey mustard and cut with a little sourness from the relish. Lots of flavor going on in this sandwich, I enjoyed it very much… However I just wish they cut down a tad bit on the relish some points it was too overpowering g and overbearing.
You got a new customer now Bergen dean for delivery, and I'll have all my staffs on it too! Can't wait to try the other sandwiches.
Mmm, sandwiches.
We were going to get on JFK for a flight back to London and knowing the food was probably going to be terrible the airport/on the plane, we wanted sandwiches to take with.
Around the corner from us? Berger Dean, and damn did they do us well. We ordered two sandwiches to go, and they were delicious. I got the pulled pork BBQ and the bread was perfect and thick, there was tons of meat and a nice helping of coleslaw on top. All handmade, all damn good.
It is not a fast place. We waited a while for them to make us two sandwiches. Also, it's damn expensive ($10 for a sandwich without chips! Damn.) But it was tasty and it served us well on the plane for sure.
Short rib sandwich was on point. At $9 it's at the top of my budget as far as take out sandwiches go, but it was worth it.
Counter service. Limited seating inside.
Happy it's far from my apartment or I'd be there much more often.
This place makes some good sandwiches. The last time I came in, I ordered a short rib sandwich and the guy behind the counter was all, "I've got one right here, ready to go for delivery, but you can have it."
Part of me was very happy that I was going to get the instant gratification we all know I deserve. But part of me was sad for the poor bastard who was going to have to wait a little longer for his lunch.
Then I got to thinking.
I don't know that guy. Perhaps he's the guy that eats a delicious and juicy short rib sandwich in between kicking kittens and sneaking into bakeries to spike the cookie dough with pubic hairs.
Well, I can't condone such things. So I ate that guy's sandwich, and it was good.
If I had any criticism for Bergen Dean Sandwich Shop, it would be that the sandwich needs a bit more texture. Throw some of those chips on it, or toast the bread. Also, stop delivering to kitten-kickers.
A small joint, across the street from the police station, that is serving a proper wonderful sandwich.
I ordered the Chicken Schnitzel Sandwich, arguably testing what they could do with a sandwich. Soggy and premade, or made to order. The latter is the answer.
Wonderful fresh ciabatta sits at the window. The sandwich comes with a great portion, though not necessarily one of those "two meal jobs." Fresh bread with a slight texture and great ability to hold everything.
The highlight is the schnitzel, made to order, pounded thing, great crunchy texture without being mouth scraping. This is then contrasted by a relish, pickles, a dancing compliment of honey mustard with its sharpness and mostly sweetness. The spicy argula offers freshness and cuts that intense fried chicken.
Not the cheapest sandwich, but an extremely well constructed one with balancing of flavors.
I used to loveee their bbq chicken sandwich but they started shredding the chickenand altered the toppings which turned me off . Their schnitzel sandwich is ight but can benefit from a signature sauce.
Their tilapia sandwich is the bomb though and I like that they offer my favorite low calorie soda, GUS.
